All,

locally I have someone willing to sell the following:

1. ping i10 irons (half serie 3, 5, 7 and 9 irons + 54 and 56 degrees wedges). graphite shaft regular right handed

2. ping rapture rescue (18 and 24 degrees) graphite shaft regular right handed:

3. cleveland hibore XL (10.5 degrees, graphite shaft regular)

The total would be $400.00. First if the set is in good condition do you consider this a good deal? Also how do you feel about the half set of irons? Is this a good or bad thing for a beginner?

Can the Ping rapture Rescue clubs be used in place of a 3W or would I most likely need to purchase one?

Do the 54,56 degree wedges take care of my pw, wedge, sand wedge or would I need to purchase a sand wedge?

I currently have a 3 year old set of Hippos and I'm just starting to play more. I can continue to play with this set for another season. I really don't have any major issues with the set but wanted to get a nicer set of clubs.

Thanks for your help.

Why is the set of i10's only a half set?

Also of note, the i10 is supposed to be for a little better player (less forgiving then the 'G' sets from Ping). That's not to say you wouldn't be fine with them but I would think you could find something a little more forgiving in a full set for less on eBay or at a retail store that sells used clubs.

The Ping Rapture 3H is a nice club, but is not going to be as long as a 3Wood. In the shortterm it would probably be fine to use instead of a 3 wood.

The driver is a decent driver and is fairly easy to hit.

The 54 and 56 wedges is a weird configuration. The 9i in the iron set is probably around 40-45* loft so that's a lot of loft to the 54 (although if you're only playing the odd clubs it would be a similar gap as with irons). A 56 is probably a SW in this case. As long as it has a lot of 'bounce' it's fine for that purpose and could be used for a lot of short game stuff, but that's not much loft difference between the 54 so it would seem like a waste to carry both.

In short, I don't think this is a particularly good deal. I think you could find a better fit for you elsewhere and possibly even for less money. You might see what kind of deal you can get on just the rapture hybrid and the driver, though.
