Ok thanks. I actually hit the irons beautifully today. Now the Callaway R flex is a different story. I doubt that's due to the Regular flex but more to just not used to the driver. Kept skimming it across the ground.

You're probably fine with the R flex in the driver (some fitters even recommend drivers stiffer than irons). Not sure what you are used to hitting, but be sure to tee it pretty high (at least 1/3 of the ball above the top of the face - some believe even 2/3 of the ball above). One good thing about the A flex in your irons is that it will force you to have a 'smoother' swing which should help with control. Good luck and have fun. New clubs are always an adventure until you get them figured out.

the A flex is one thing i was afraid those would have. how old and tall, etc. i have a feeling A flex is WAY too flexible. you said you hit them great this time, but that may not last.

I think I'll be fine with the 'A' set. I went to golfsmith yesteday and I did some swings with their analyzer system and my speed was almost exactly 80 MPH. According to the chart at the link below I would say I'm fine.

I don't beleive the flex will matter as much for irons anyhow.

Also I just ordered a set of woods off ebay: 4, 7, 9: Callaway Big Bertha wood set for 99 bucks. All graphite regular flex.

So for $400.00 I've got a complete set of clubs with a brand new bag and feel pretty good. I'll play it through the summer and in the fall/winter when prices drop I'll see if I want to upgrade then. The used sets I saw at Golfsmith were priced way to high. So overall I think I've got a decent set for a decent price.

    • It may not have been block practice, though, is one of the main points here. You may have been serving and from the same place, but you were likely trying to do slightly different things. It seems that would only be blocked practice if you were trying to hit the same exact ball hit to you to the same exact place in the far court. I'm not sure that's as random as if the ball that you're given to hit is at different places, too, but again…
    • I played tennis in college. I thought block practice was great for serves because you were starting the point and  you could easily adjust where you wanted to place the ball based off the same motion. I equate those to tee balls. I despised block practice for groundstrokes once you reached a certain level and your fundamentals were good. To me, hitting a 100 crosscourt backhands in a row was silly because I would never do that in a match. I needed to randomize it by hitting some deep, some angled, all with different speeds and spins. I share that same thought about iron play. Because we seldom hit the same approach shots hole after hole, I prefer to practice irons randomly.
