2009 Burner Irons

I have a review of the 2009 burner irons for anyone who's been thinking about buying them. I got a set of 4-pw with steel stiff shafts last week and have since played 4 rounds with them, my previous irons were cobra S9's and Titleist AP1's. After my first round with the burners I was a little dissapointed with the long irons but have since gotten used to the lighter and longer shafts. That was the only trouble I had with these irons, I think they fit almost perfectly between the S9 and the AP1, the S9's were super game improvement irons with zero feedback, the AP1 irons were game improvement irons that offered some feedback and the ability to work the ball left or right a bit, I personally was disappointed with the AP1 irons as nothing stood out about them that made them worth the money to me. The burner Irons on the other hand are extremely forgiving and I have found them to be pretty workable, although they have a tendancy to want to fly straight and high, the short irons have thinner looking toplines than the AP1's and I couldn't tell a difference in offset, the long irons on the other hand have thicker toplines and more offset, but for the average golfer that just means you can make a more controlled swing and still get the ball up in the air. It's a no contest in performance compared to the AP1 irons, I even liked the S9's better. If you need forgiveness and accuracy with a set of irons you can grow with get the 09 Burners. I myself was pretty dissapointed with the AP1's, I would rank them last out of the 3.

all three clubs you mention seem to be in same class of irons - game improvement irons...they all seem pretty similar for what they are designed to do....why don't you try players irons if you want a set to grow into???

I just got down to an 8 handicap I will start looking at player Irons when I get closer to scratch, I have alot of buddys who are scratch and they play AP1's, R7's and they are able to work the ball and do play great golf with them so I see no reason to look at more difficult clubs to hit. I think its funny when hacks use players clubs. Thanks for the advice though?

I think its funny when hacks play blades as well, considering 70% of PGA tour pros play some form of a cavity back.

Thats was a good read. Yeah my course is full of those guys with like 7 degree drivers and blades who shoot in the high 90's. Whatever makes it more enjoyable, I guess?

I also tried and liked the Burner irons very much. Tried the AP1's as well but liked the Burners better for my game. I also had issues with the longer burner irons, and then tried the R7's. The R7's fit me perfectly, and the price was great as well.
