****EDIT****
In the past five minutes I found something called "shaft extender". It seems this would fix the problem described below. However, when doing a search there is no mention of them

Hello, first post after reading for some time.

***Cliff notes of following Post***

I want to buy a used set of irons for around $250. I think I need +1" length. However, I need help finding a website that carries used clubs that are not standard length

Thank you

I've been playing a couple rounds a year for the past 6-7 years. I'm going to be graduating law school in a year and a lot of my lawyer friends play golf at least once a week. So I really want to get into it more seriously.

For the past several years I've had an acuity set from Dicks Sporting goods. I want to invest in a newer set, but really don't have a lot of money to spend right now. So I am looking for a new set of irons.

When looking online, most everything I find that is affordable (i.e. ~ $250) is in standard length. However, every online calculator says I need +1". Before I buy I am going to have my measurements taken professionally, and then take these numbers online to find a used set that I can afford.

Before my fitting (and lessons starting in about a month) I just want to see what is available in my price range. So assuming that I am +1", is there any website (other then e-bay and craigslist) that typically carries longer clubs?

( I have looked at 3balls, globogolf, rockbottom, etc. but all these clubs are the standard length).

Thanks

I had the same issue. You really have to look around on eBay or any of those sites you mentioned. I ended up buying new, but I did find a couple of nice sets that fit my specs on eBay. It sounds like you don't want to go that route though. Sometimes on globalgolf, the clubs are listed at "Standard" but actually are like 38.5" for the 5-iron. (That's +1" for some companies I believe.)

That brings up another issue: there is no standard. PING's standard is different than Callaway's which is different than Mizuno's, etc. Find out how long your 5-iron for example should be and go by .25" increments for each club (I think that's what it's supposed to be). You may find a +.5" Nickent that is actually +1" for TM and would fit you; it depends on the individual company's standard. Shaft extenders are another option if you just buy a standard set. Go to Golfsmith or a comparable store (like a proshop) and they could do that sort of work. It would cost some money (ranging from store to store) since grips usually need to be replaced as well. I hope my post was helpful and good luck.

Why not Ebay?

I found a bunch of sets +1" in about 30 seconds.

It looks like irons in that length are going for less $$$ than their standard size counterparts.

Here's a set of Pings I'll bet you can get for less tha $200 when it's all over. PING LINK
