Hey y'all,
I'm looking to get some new irons, and I'm pretty much a newbie to the game. I am improving my game every time I go out there and figuring everything out pretty quickly I think.
I'm pretty sure that with new irons I will have more confidence which is
something that I'm definitely lacking...

But my question is, which irons? I definitely want a set of Cleveland irons though. What is the difference between all the irons? I'm looking at the difference between the red and yellow or "gold" irons? I really like the yellow CG7's but I didn't know what the difference between them and the red "tour" ones were.

So basically, out of my rambling, my question is:
What is the difference between the red CG7 "tour" and the gold CG7 irons?

Thanks!

With the Cleveland irons, the main difference in the 'Red' and 'Gold' sets is that the Reds are designed for a little better player. They are not as forgiving and provide a little more 'feedback' on mishit shots - which basically means you get a softer feel from the Gold model on slight mishits. They also tend to have a thinner sole and topline, although the differences in that respect are not huge.

I played last years CG golds and really enjoyed them. I won a rather large pro shop credit late last year and went for the TM graphites as you will see in my signature. I tried both the reds and the golds and thought that the golds were just slightly more forgiving on mishits. The golds should have slightly more offset to them as well which typically helps the higher handicap player. Cleveland irons don't carry the big name status of some other brands, but they IMO they made a terrific set of irons. Good Luck.

Ok. I know I talked about the Cleveland Irons, but I've got my eye on some Callaway X-18's on PGA tour website store. They are cheaper than the cleveland irons, and the X-20's aren't very much more. Which one would be better for a game improvement iron?

Also, I went to Golf Galaxy today and saw some Cobra SZ Irons, and the S9's.
I have to say, I love those irons! What do you think would do better for me of all the irons?
I would have to say that the Cobra S9's are my favorite, I'm a big Cobra Golf fan.

Sorry for all the questions, but when I don't have a ton of money to spend on irons, I want to get the right ones the first time. haha. College is pretty expensive! Good thing my birthday is in the middle of the summer!

Thanks for all the help guys!

the one thing that you are gonna need to do, and I am sure that all will agree, hit the clubs before hand and see what feels good to you. take all your picks and hit some of the demos. sharing that #1 tip, you will want to get fitted. You could pay all that money for clubs but they won't perform to the max unless they are to your standards. so:

step one. take your picks
step two. keep an open mind to others that you don't know you like yet
step three. swing them/get fitted
step four. start your path to better golf.
