Hi Guys,

First season back playing after shattering my wrist 2 years ago and having some titanium put in. I used to play Mizuno MP60's with DGs300 shafts. After playing for about 2 months i am getting no where near the distance i used too so went for a club fitting yesterday. As expected my club speed and ball speed were too slow for the shaft. club speed at 67mph and ball speed at 95mph. After trying out the new burner 09 with the 85g regular steel shaft my club speed was upto 74mph and ball speed 107mph. with a 6 iron my specs were as follows 170yard carry with launch angle of 23 degrees and spin rate of 3250. I am seriously considering getting a set but would like to hear if you guys have any other recommendations based on the above and whether you think these would be a good purchase.

Cheers

Hi Guys,

Absolutely. I work in retail sales at a local golf shop and we see a lot of Burner 09 irons flying out the door. The feedback we get is really good and they tend to come off the clubhead a bit hotter than most. Keep in mind, that is partly due to the fact that they are delofted i.e. the six iron has the same loft of most 5 irons. That is mainly the reason players are seeing more distance.

I was fitting a guy the other day with some Burner 09s and some Nike Victory Splits. We tested both six irons, and the Burner 09 was getting about 15 yrds more distance with the six iron than was the Nike. We then checked the lofts and the Burner 09 was 27 degrees with the Nike being 30. The Burner 09 is a great iron, and with the inverted cone technology, ball speeds are higher than any iron on the market.

I just got the Burner 09 irons (Nippon NS950 steel shaft, Stiff). I've played now 3+ times with the irons since I've gotten them and I'm hitting the ball beautifully. The ball really flies off the clubface with these irons. I got the 4-AW and was nervous about not having a 3-iron, but so far it has not been an issue.

Good luck with your club choice.

    • Day 33 (13 Dec 25) - Worked on weight shift and resetting the left heel during downswing (after listening to a discussion on Golf School this morning on PGA Tour Radio).  It centered on how Jack Nicklaus lifted his lead heel and how long driver champs do as well.  Taking cues from that discussion, worked an exaggerated feel of the left heel working doing some swing drill in the backyard using the 7i.  Wrapped up the session by hitting a few low bump and run shots in the backyard - keeping the process slow and exaggerated.

    • It may not have been block practice, though, is one of the main points here. You may have been serving and from the same place, but you were likely trying to do slightly different things. It seems that would only be blocked practice if you were trying to hit the same exact ball hit to you to the same exact place in the far court. I'm not sure that's as random as if the ball that you're given to hit is at different places, too, but again…
