I've really improved all areas of my game and have the rest of my clubs figured out, but I still feel like a newbie once I get onto the green. I am using a Top Flite PS-01 putter that I got for free at a party years ago but I feel like its not for me. Obviously, putting is all about practice and I've been practicing a lot lately, but I could use a little help as well. What are the differences between different putters and what would you guys recommend? Money isn't a huge issue but of course, the cheaper the better. Thanks in advance.

I just asked for the same advice recently in this thread:
http://thesandtrap.com/forum/showthread.php?t=25130

Basically I was suggested to go to a Pro shop and try out putters, so I did. I ended up liking the Heavy Putter and the Mizuno Bettinardi and the Scotty Camerons. The Camerons were a little out of my price range so I got myslef the Bettinardi. You should try the same thing, go to a pro shop and try out the putters on real greens to test them out. You will find one that you like, try not to let Price affect you but I can understand with putters like camerons going for 300$ +.

thats exactly right. putters are SOOOO very personal and it just depends on what YOU are comfortable with. i could recommend my favorite putter, the SeeMore FGP, but of course that wont do you any good cuz you might hate that style of putter. you just have to hit as many as you can and figure out what style and weight you are most comfortable with

My handicap is not so good but my putting, pretty much from day one, has been fairly solid. Here are the things that have helped me...

1. Know your stroke. If you like to take the putter straight back and follow through straight towards the target, a mallett type putter will work best for you. If you open your putter face on the take back and close it on the follow through, a blade will suit you better.

2. A different grip put on your putter can make a huge difference. My putting improved when I went to the Winn jumbo grip.

3. You can't be tense while putting. Be sure to maintain constant pressure throughout your stroke... doesn't matter so much if it's tighter or looser (I prefer looser) but just keep it constant.

4. To judge the speed, imagine in your head the speed needed to complete the putt. The speed from the takeback to impact should mimic that speed.

5. Your practice time should, imo, should primarily be spent on 3 and 4 foot putts.

Thanks for the responses guys. Sorry I didn't read them earlier, I did not get an email notification. Deafheaven, I was not aware that was how you decided what type of putter to get. That was very helpful. Again, thank you all.
