Had a great time at Golf Galaxy last night! Started out with 10 different sets of irons and hit them into the net to judge feel. Then narrowed it down to 5 and took them to the simulator. Then narrowed it down to two, and two that I never thought I would consider: Calaway X-22's (non-tours) and Taylor Made Burner Plus. I hit a few more to compare the final two and just loved the feel that I had with the Taylor Made's. So, I walked out with a new set of Taylor Made irons. Can't wait to get to the course this weekend to hit them!

Advice is something you only need so much of before making the decision on your own. When I went to Dick's to look into new irons I asked the guy before asking for advice if I could hit the Nike Ignite 2's and Adams IDEA a7OS's. I liked the feel of both almost the same but the Nikes a touch more and the price was certainly right on the Ignites at $299, I went with them and haven't looked back. Love the look, love the way they feel when I make solid contact. I've been playing much better since buying them. And while I could have bought a set for more money that might last me a little longer I just couldn't go against what I thought was right at the time and I haven't regretted my decision. I really didn't ask the guy for much advice either. Went with my gut.

Callaway XR 9.5 + 1, Taylormade R15 3 Wood, Burner 3 Rescue, Callaway XHot 5H, Warbird 4H, Nike Vapor Fly 6-AW Irons, Titleist Vokey 54, 60 Wedges, Taylormade Rossa Fontana Putter, Srixon Z-Star Tour Yellow.

Best Score 2017:  82 (Traditions at the Glen, Par 70)

Favorite Course - Conklin Players Club (Par 72) - Best Score 86

If you go to buy a set of clubs at Golf Galaxy and know that you will need shortened shafts can they order the set so it doesnt cost you extra over the normal sales price ?

Depending on the set of irons, you can do this on TGW.com. If it is available for the particular model you are looking at, there will be a customize tab where you can choose shaft length (-1 in to +2 in), lie angle and other variables.

You can also select just certain clubs in a set, so if you don't want the 3i for some reason you don't have to buy it and you get a prorated price. Or you could build a combo set; for instance 3, 4, and 5 irons in say the Nike VR split cavity, and 6, 7, 8, 9, and PW in the VR blades.

    • It may not have been block practice, though, is one of the main points here. You may have been serving and from the same place, but you were likely trying to do slightly different things. It seems that would only be blocked practice if you were trying to hit the same exact ball hit to you to the same exact place in the far court. I'm not sure that's as random as if the ball that you're given to hit is at different places, too, but again…
    • I played tennis in college. I thought block practice was great for serves because you were starting the point and  you could easily adjust where you wanted to place the ball based off the same motion. I equate those to tee balls. I despised block practice for groundstrokes once you reached a certain level and your fundamentals were good. To me, hitting a 100 crosscourt backhands in a row was silly because I would never do that in a match. I needed to randomize it by hitting some deep, some angled, all with different speeds and spins. I share that same thought about iron play. Because we seldom hit the same approach shots hole after hole, I prefer to practice irons randomly.
