Shot a new personal best today! A 2 over par 74! My goal for this summer was to shot a 75, which I did back in August. So, having achieved my goal, I've really been practicing hard and working on getting a more consistent swing so that I can do it again many times.

Today was probably to best overall round I've ever had. I mean I was hitting the ball beautifully and my short game was on point. I rarely had to chip on the greens, but when I did I was getting them in there pretty tight. Never hit more than 2 putts and had several one putts.

My length was really superb today too. I'd say my average driver was 265 and I even had one drive on the par 5 ninth hole that was right at 300 yards. It's a 530yd hole and I had about 190 to the hole. I hit my approach right at the flag with a 4 iron and drained the 12 ft putt for eagle (first ever)! That eagle gave me a 1 under 35 for the front nine which was a personal best for nine holes.

Needless to say, I was pretty amped up the back nine and got a club to club and a half extra as a result. I was eyeing an even par round as I was making routine par after routine par, until on 14 and 15 I had back to back bogeys I stayed positive though and ended up making one more bogey and the rest pars to finish the back with a 3 over 39 and an 18 hole total of 2 over 74!

I am a little disappointed about how the back nine ended up, but overall I hit the ball better than I ever have so I am pretty stinking happy.

Great job...I had a goal to shoot 75 or better this year, too. I shot a personal best +1, 73 last week, 3 birdies and 4 bogies.

I wonder if I'll ever get to the stage where I'm disappointed with a 39 =P

Congratulations on the round score, I guess it's bad timing with the end of the season and all, I imagine your enthusiasm has skyrocketed.

...or does OK get the southern perma-season? I'd have thought you guys will get pretty crappy winters, or does being immediately north of TX let you play all year round?

Thanks, and great job to you too!

I was only disappointed with the 39 because I was so close to shooting par or even under par. Just made some silly mistakes that cost me the chance, but believe me I am totally pumped about exceeding my goal for the summer.

Yes, Oklahoma weather does allow for year round play. We get some pretty nasty winter weather (ice and snow and extreme cold) but the next week may be in the 50's and 60's! Last December I played one day when it was over 80 degrees!

    • . I've been Playing Golf for: 10 years, 1 year consistently  My current handicap index or average score is: 100 My typical ball flight is: fade The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: inconsistent ball strike   I caught the bug about a year ago and have been playing roughly once a week. Have been getting better with my short game and putting but my ball striking from tee and fairway lets me down. Had my first lesson last month which identified an over the top swing compensated by an open club face. Have been trying everything to get on plane over the last month. Have found that using a bend and press into my left leg as the trigger for my downswing coupled with finding the turn and rotation in both my arms to release the club properly has helped my get nearer to the correct plane. Video below is where I am with it currently. Haven’t taken this new swing to the course yet! Any comments or suggestions are welcome  Videos:  I've been Playing Golf for: 1 year properly  My current handicap index or average score is: 100 av score
    • That's always been the deal. You put in the work hyper focused on ONE or at most two things, so that you don't have to think about anything except a single feel or the target or something on the course.
    • Blind squirrel finds a nut and putted well. no, I decided to play a round being athletic rather than paralyzing myself with swing thoughts. I have no clue if I was doing what I worked on. It was the last day and I was tired of freezing at the top of the swing not know if one of four outcomes were going to happen.
    • Day 299 - 2025-07-26 I spent 15 minutes practicing but it was almost pointless. It wasn't good practice. I was not really in it, but I put the time in. Oh, I did some chipping work before-hand, and that was good. I could have just left after that. 🙂
    • Well that's different.
