This is what I've been doing for a short while. The vid quality is bad so there are quite a few important frames missing. However, just curious as to how bad it looked. This is the swing I'm trying to work from. The plane starts out somewhat singular and then falls out of that as I bottle my wrists up at the top of the swing and have to force my body around to make room for the club.

Before I give you my thoughts, I have one question...

On full swings with your irons are you somewhat inconsistent with your divots, hitting some fat at times?

I think the correct answer is yes. However, I've yet to play with my 755's which are the first clubs I will have been fitted for at my age. I either usually just play with an 8 and 9 iron that are too short, or standard length clubs that feel too short. Given the fact that the fitment was +1/2" I'd say they are. So I actually tend to catch it thin if anything, rarely do I hit it that fat, however, I'm sure that will just step down a half inch to catching it fat and occasionally clean.

You seem to have great flexibility, we're in the same boat on that. I took some video of my swing recently and it was similar to yours. Your certainly trying to swing on plane and thats excellent, nothing too awkward about it. I will say though that at the top, your going slightly past parallel, much like I was, this will kill your consistency (Don't say the name John Daly either, he's an exception to the rule and a totally unique individual).

I'm in the process of changing this and it feels like I'm taking a much shorter swing, but I'm really not. In fact, I feel as if my swing is much more powerful when doing a one piece take-away with my arms nice and relaxed, no stiffness. I take the club away with a rotation of the shoulders, not my arms (a nice wide arc). Once I get to the top, I feel my weight shift to the left side is much more seamless, I don't have to force anything. When I was taking it past parallel, I felt as if I really had to consciously try to make that weight shift to the left and I was inconsistent, leading to an early release at times, and a late release at others. It didn't feel as if my swing was connected, now I do. I feel 100% better right now in regards to my control. I can't wait to take it to the course to see how it works out. Its winter here in Ohio but we're getting some decent weather Saturday so hopefully I'll be able to get a loop in.

That swing has a lot of promise to it and a lot of power. At first it looked like you went way past parallel a la John Daly, but really you don't, it's a real good basic swing for you to use.

Good deal. The flexibility comes as a bit of a surprise given the numbers: 205/5'7". However, I'm very long torso'd and simply have no legs at all, so I guess that's part of it. Something I've been working on is that backswing. Because of the fact that right at the top of it, my wrists break down and I fall out of a single plane. If I focus on keeping my left arm straight with the wrist flat, it controls the backswing as it should, I'm just finding it absurdly uncomfortable and I'm sure I'm doing something wrong. I just keep practicing it and waiting for it to click. It will get here eventually. My ball striking consistency with mid and long irons is poor. However, I've been playing with a regular flex standard length and lie dtr titleist. My fitment was for a +1/2" 1*flat x100 shafted 755. I'm still waiting to recieve these clubs as they're being made, but when I hit the demo 6 iron in those specs, my ball striking becomes very strong and consisting with only an occasionally thin shot which I can attribute to rushing the swing. I also step off the mats when no one is looking and hit out of the surrounding grass (a mixture of weeds and short grass) and continue to strike the ball very well. I think that having fitted clubs and a more controlled backswing in my arsenal will help cut my scores substantially.

Yes. The swing on the right also carries a little further back than the swing on the left. It does seem to have at least a short supply of power. Club head speed while swinging in a controlled relaxed fashion is right at 105. And the carry with that was into or in front of the trees at the end of the range, which I can fly and then some on a good day. But the consistency still bites me, and I still work to fix it. Thank you for the words.

You need to show a video of hitting the ball not just swinging, thats how you can fix it.

have you ever tried hitting half shots ( or three quarter ) with a 5 iron, you will be surprised when you catch them out of the middle, they go just as far as your swing in the video, try it if you can !
