MacGregor MT Pro-M / Pro-C Combo set

A few months ago while I was playing a set of MP-57 I met a starting golfer at the driving range and we played about 9 holes, he had just gotten into his first handicap 30ish ..... as these highcappers always are, he was impressed how straight and far I hit my irons, seemingly without any effort.

Gave him some tips, not too much of course (I am no teaching pro and I never want to come in between the pro and the client).

He was playing a kind of starter kit and made also a few strokes with my irons (I never have any problems with that - driver is a different story).

Anyway I met him again yesterday, he had bought a very nice set that he hit best at a monitor and got his handicap down to 22 and looked to have a sub 18 potential within a few months.

I was quite impressed by his Black Combo set of MacGregor MT Pro-M (7-PW) / MT Pro-C (4-6) and he could hit them very well, still needing to work on a lighter grip and he was teeing up his irons on the tee way to high .... easy fixes.

I played the MT Pro CM for a few years until I gave them to my son about 6 mo ago. They are a quality alternative to the high priced big house blades. They have a beautiful top line, they're a little head light so you can really crank them, very forgiving yet workable, with a soemwhat firmer feel than most forged blades. Great bargain. You can still find them here and there, esp on the Bay.

I'm still kicking myself for passing on a set online. They looked to be in great shape and were the gunmetal black ones, really cool looking and ended up going for $177. I've never hit them, but I've been looking at them as my first set of blades. My reasoning is:

• I think they are really good looking
• They are only half of a blade set, which seems smart as I am now consistently shooting bogey golf
• They are inexpensive on eBay

Any gottcha's that I should know about? I'm hitting Mizuno T-zoid CompEZ's now, so I know that the head size and weight is going to be different.

Nope, no gotchas, esp for <$200. All of your points are valid. I'm guessing the head size will be a little smaller then your Tzoids, but if you are committed that will improve your ball striking in the long run. Keep looking on the Bay (I think there might be a new set that pops up once in a while), and look forward to some great feedback from your shots.
