Don't want anyone to misconstrue my earlier post.   I'm taking the OP literally.  What he described is something I've never actually seen.   I've never played, nor ever will, a course which requires you to wear slacks in 100+ temperatures, or the several other restrictions which the OP enumerated.  I have played  quite a number of nice courses which are kept in great shape and offer varying degrees of difficulty, depending on the chosen tee set.  There are hundreds of very good courses around the US and around the world which are not managed as stuck up snob farms.  I'd happily play at any one of those and enjoy every minute.  My initial response was based solely on the OP scenario, and that I would not put up with regardless of the course.

Take your hypothetical course and replace it with "Augusta National", which pretty much matches your description of super exclusive, tons of history, perfectly manicured, have to wear pants, etc.       So the question is, would you enjoy playing Augusta even if you are 10 strokes over your handicap?     If someone's answer isn't an emphatic "Yes!" they are certifiably crazy.

So yes, I'd enjoy a round like that and would jump at the opportunity any day of the week.

You find the course to be perfectly manicured and green, there are the best design principles utilized but it's super hard.  Every par three is pretty long and you have to carry bunkers and/or water on every approach.  The greens are rock hard, very fast and tricked out with lots of rolling undulation.  Missing the fairway leaves you not in rough but basically a wasted sandy area that isn't raked.  You end up shooting 10 or more strokes over your handicap for the round.

Do you enjoy a round like this if so why?
