Hello all, I am leaving a club that had reasonably priced clubmaking services (loft/lie angles, grips, etc.), and am about to join a club with no pro shop services outside of clothes, balls, and ordering clubs. I am in need of some new grips on my wedges, and will probably regrip the rest of my set over the winter so I can add a much needed half inch extension and get used to playing with them before tournament season. I've watched our pro regrip clubs several times and I know it's quite simple. My question is in regards to what type of equipment one would need to be able to do this on their own. Obviously a bench vice of some sort, but what size? Any special attachments to hold the shafts in place without scratching or bending them? Would any old box cutter/carpet knife work for removing the old grips and tape? How about adding the extensions? Is that something I could easily do myself? I saw a kit on golf galaxy for steel shafts (which I have), but do they just slip in to the other shaft or do you need to use some sort of epoxy to be sure it's secure? Thanks in advance for your advice.

Your desire to change has to be greater than your desire to stay the same.

get yourself a rubber shaft clamp. About $4 on ebay or one of these http://www.golfmechanix.com/Items.asp?Pdts=17&CatDescription;=Clamping%20tools . Depends on your budget. A small compressor or tire inflator will get the old grips off with an air gun with a large needle. About $10 for the gun. Careful with shaft extentions. They can mess with your swing weight as well as making the shaft longer. Depends on the type as to how they need to be fixed. I have recently totally rebuilt my irons and a driver. New ferrules, adjusted the swingweights, spined the shafts and put the grips back on (actually, I had the proshop put the grips on, I could not be bothered, but its pretty simple with compressed air). Just go for it, its not like brain surgery if you stuff something up. You can always reverse the stuff up.

    • I  had to return to boast  just a  bit. Everyone  knows  i thought  this  is  how the Championship should  be decided. Match play is far  better than stroke  play to determine a  champion and  its  much closer to most sports  playoffs. Lose and you are  out.     Promotion, relegation and match play: PGA Tour unveils radical new structure The PGA Tour has revealed its planned changes to its competitive model, schedule and playoffs, changes that will be more substantial than any in the Tour's half-century-long history. How will the PGA Tour series wrap up its season? The current PGA Tour playoff format consists of three stroke-play events, concluding with the Tour Championship at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta. Starting in 2028, the Tour's playoff system will feature match play, and will rotate through various courses. Further details will be revealed at this year's Tour Championship next month.
    • Posted a couple swings here. I think my attempt to blend the movement still results in a more “around” back swing?
    • I never heard dislike for them.  From my perspective, they are just like any other club. Though, they were always probably over-priced, until recently as other club manufacturers have been raising prices the past 5+ years. You had to wait for them to go on sale, which you can get them closer to other club manufacturers.  They sell good clubs. Nothing crazy..
    • Why do so many people dislike PXG clubs and constantly criticize them? All the folks at my club and especially online, I never hear good things about them except from people who bought them and defend them. They look fine to me but curious is there some sort of quality issue or is it just stereotyping the buyers.
    • I have the LM1 launch monitor and I’ve been very impressed. I agree with your assessment and it’s very accurate for me and ease of use is wonderful. The price point of $199 is very hard to beat with this form factor and performance. I was previously using a PRGR.
