I built a bearing-based spine finder and use it on all clubs I build, as well as finding FLO.  Whether or not it actually does what is purported to, it certainly can't hurt anything to do it, and it gives me a warm fuzzy knowing that I have done everything I can to make my equipment the best it can be.

Yep exactly! For me the FLO isn't convincing, solely from the perspective that the club flexes one way and then back again, not back and forth time after time.

The spine though is convincing as that side of the shaft is provably firmer than the other side and thus less likely to flex. To me it's like a golfer's spine in that we twist around our spine and so would a club at impact solely by virtue of it being the firmest part of the shaft. If that's the case we're better off having that spine on the shaft in a position to benefit our game. For the 10 seconds it takes to check while building a club it's worth it.

    • We had a member of our senior club who developed a mental block on pulling the trigger. I played with him to see what the membership was talking about. I timed him a few times when he would get over the ball. 45 seconds. He knew he had a mental block and would chide himself, “Just hit it!” Once on the green he was okay and chipping was a bit better. It was painful to watch him struggle. Our “bandaid” was to put him in the last tournament  tee time with two understanding players. We should have suggested to him to take a break from our tournaments. I agree with the idea that when a player realizes they have a problem, the answer is to go fix it and not return until they are able to play at an acceptable pace.
