Hey guys, I almost 24 years old and have been playing golf since I was about 10. Never liked it much until about 2 years ago and now I'm really serious about becoming a good player.

I am about a 15 handicap, I strike the ball pretty good with my irons and have minimal mis-hits in my opinion. My long game could use some work, as well as my skill around the greens to get me down to a lower handicap.

Today at the local golf range I hit a Titleist 735CM 8 iron demo club and it was unlike anything I'v ever felt. I am currently playing the Mizuno Jpx 800 irons and they are okay, but I feel that if I have the ability to hit more of a players iron I would like to change over.

I can't lie, I'm a total Mizuno fan boy hence the Jpx's. I'd love to get a set of Mp 33's but unsure if those would be even more difficult to hit as I  have never hit a set. I'm also a TW ***** so Vr pro combo set or full on blade set has also caught my eye.

Someone please let me know If I'm getting ahead of myself here?

Check out the Mizuno 59 irons, best of both worlds

I'm a huge Mizuno fan, but there is a considerable jump in forgiveness from the JPX irons to the MP series (in my opinion).  I'd suggest you check out the Titliest AP2's as well.  I currently play those and couldn't be happier.  They have great forgiveness for a forged iron and very workable with good feel.  The Mizuno's probably give you more feedback on mishits, but the gains in forgiveness with the AP2's make it a mute point for me personally.

59's, 59's and 59's some more if you're a Mizuno fan and have plenty of spare cash. I tried these a little while back and they were absolutely fantastic. Loads of distance, great feeling off the face, workable to a silly degree and they look lickable(sic)

If you are a good ball stricker i would look at players clubs. I play mizuno mp68's and i was on 19 hcp when i started playing them and droped to 13 in just under 4 months.

So i don't think you should not worry to much about having a higher then recommended hcp for a muscle back club or even a bladed club.

Your best bet is just go to your local shop/range and hit everything they have to offer and find what works best for you.

Hey guys, thanks for all the great input!

I was at the range again today and found a used single Mizuno Mp 68 6 iron for $10. It was used for fitting or some type of practice club and was in considerably good shape. I'm noticing that it is a bit more difficult to hit then the Titleist 735 and does not feel as smooth at impact.

I've decided I'm going to practice with this single club for a little while and get the feel of a serious players iron. Once I become a little more confident I may go with a combo set or full on set of muscle backs. I'm curious to see the new Titleist 712 MB's and I'd like to try out the VR pro's as well as some of the Mizuno's suggested. I understand that these may all feel different and have a hair more or less forgivness between models, so I'm going to take my time deciding.

Thanks again for all the feedback, it is much appreciated!

I've been hitting a few different blade irons and the feedback on mishits really lets me know what I was doing wrong. I've built up confidence from practicing with some MP-32's and went ahead to ordered some Nike Vr Pro blades. I'm really excited, once I get my long game and skill around the greens worked on I know I'm going to get closer to single digit handicap.

    • Day 7: got out my chipping net and worked on chipping in the living room for a solid 15 minutes. Worked on mostly low shots, but mixed in a couple of high shots as well.
    • Day 228 4-4 More hip/chest turn and wrist arching. Working on hinging wrist a bit later. Foam balls.
    • Day 27 (4 Apr 26) - Worked with grandson on basic pitches/punches in the back yard with varied irons/wedges.  Wrapped up the day rolling some putts on the 30’ carpet I can set up in the yard to give varied terrain - and this carpet rolls almost too easy. A great way to figure a read and know that pace has to be near perfect to get in the hole.
    • A bit of a struggle today.  Just some thoughts/musings.  For the backswing, it is like I am never going to be moving on from this. I don't know if I can ever get to the point where the backswing isn't like over 1.5 seconds in duration. Which is probably not ideal. I would like to get to the point where I can just fling the arms back and up.  I have to feel like my hands are going to hit my right thigh from P1 to P2. If not then they like to move 2-5 inches towards the ball from P1 to P2. Then it's just bad from there. This feeling is my hands not gaining much depth, just maintaining depth from set up. From the DTL view, the hands head towards the camera.  While I am doing that, hinge the crap out of the club with my wrist only. Hinge in a way that the club is pointing at the camera at P2.  From P2, lift the hands straight up. I can get here, and still roll the club inside and get it way too shallow.  With the downswing. There isn't much here. I still can't get the flow of this or the sequencing of this to line up. It doesn't help that hinging from P1 to P2 just throws off my entire timing as well.
    • Day 550 - 2026-04-04 Practiced in the sim at a club for awhile. Did a SW ladder and practiced for awhile with my 7I.
