i played today and i noticed that on 6 or 7 of my drives that the ball would go straight for a second or two and then dive towards the ground. I couldnt figure out why it would do this, any ideas?

edit- would the ball positon matter at all

I'm going to throw this out there since I once had a similar problem. Check your clubhead alignment at address. I found the face of my driver was perpendicular to the ground at address and when I made contact my right wrist was rolling over a bit effectively "hooding" my drives. I now consciously roll my clubhead back a bit at address to where I can actually see some of the face so when I make contact with the ball the face of my driver is perpendicular.

it might be your shaft stiffness

When Iplayed with a regular it seemed like my ball would die in the air and go straight down, once i switched to stiff i didnt have that problem anymore

I do that from time to time. For me, it usually means I'm rolling my wrists over too soon and putting top spin on the ball (much like a good tennis shot). I have since weakened my grip which seems to have gotten rid of the problem.....for now!

Im pretty sure its hitting the top of the ball. Youll get air because the club is lifting it up, but then the spin is sending it down. Your topping it, but not enough to completely shank it.
