Missing Payne

Just watched a replay of the 98 USO at Olympic. Man, what a swing. He was the posterboy of tempo and rythm. His actual swing was prettier than everyone else's most perfect practice swing. Only others that came close to Payne were Snead, Elkington, and Freddie.

Here's some vid of his play at Pinehurst. Look at his 6 iron swing @ 1:35. Just pure pureness.

I was totally floored the day he died, as I was just starting to play a lot and he was my role model as a person and a golfer..

I totally agree!

I was there!!! At the 18th hole at Pinehurst in 1999, to witness him making that putt to beat Phil by one stroke. I was rooting for Phil, but when he made that putt, everybody, including me jumped up and down screaming.

He was a great guy for sure.
