I am currently looking to get a set of irons I have never played golf but I did learn about 14 years ago. First I have a few questions: 1. I am just about 6'3" and I understand that I need longer clubs to properly fit my height. Can I buy +1/2 and have them lengthened if needed. I was told that I need +1's but the clubs I am currently looking at are available in +1/2. 2. Does adding shaft extensions hinder club performance? 3. Can anyone tell me the difference between the TaylorMade Burner Plus irons and the new Burner SuperFast 3.0 irons. A local golf store has the Burner Plus irons for $289 in +1/2 but I can get standard length Burner SuperFast irons for $399 at Dick's Sporting Goods. I am on a budget and do not want to spend tons of money on clubs. I have already tried the Burner Plus irons and I really like them. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

i am also 6'3" and i have the burner pluses. the one thing i regret is not having a swing to base the customization of my clubs on.

my swing now is vastly different than the embarrassed flailing i did when i bought the clubs and i'm sure could have changed how they were adjusted.

anyway, i got a 1/2" addition, which is good because it helps me from getting too hunched over or squatting too low, but it doesn't force me to stand upright or distance myself from the ball. because of my swing i also believe the clubs were toed down 2*, but honestly i couldn't tell you why, it's been a couple years since i got them and it doesn't seem to hinder my swing but i wouldn't recommend it.

i'm assuming both sets are 4-AW or something along those lines, and that's fine but i would highly recommend a 3 iron hybrid. doesn't matter what brand, just one that you hit well. besides the putter it is probably my most used club and is the easiest club i own to make contact with. i bought it years after my iron set, but i got an 08 burner and it's got a ton of heft in the head and really helps me out. 1000x more consistent than i am with my 4-iron. so if the 3.0 set comes with a hybrid i would definitely go with that because they run ~$100 at least for old model big name ones.

i don't know anything about the 3.0s, but if it includes a hybrid it's well worth looking at.

as for the burner plus', i absolutely love them and they've held up well over a couple years.  I bought two wedges because i don't like the feel of trying to hit anything but a full shot with the AW and PW that comes with the set, but they play consistently, even when i don't.

 G25 Driver (10.5* Stiff Flex)

 G20 3 Wood (15* Stiff Flex)

 i15 3 Hybrid (20* Stiff Flex)

 i20 Hybrid (23* Stiff Flex)

 JPX 800 (5-AW)

 T11 54* (9* Bounce) and 58* (10* Bounce) w/DG Spinner Shafts

Thanks. I was just at Dick's today and they have the Burner SuperFast 3.0 irons and hybrids for $599. That includes graphite shafts on the hybrids. I've been looking in to hybrids and I might just get a single 3H outside of the iron set.

yeah i got mine for $80 new because it was a few years old. and almost all hybrids now have graphite shafts.

i would go with the burners pluses and a hybrid for the cost of the burner 3.0's.

hopefully someone else will throw in an opinion though.

Thanks. I ended up buying a full Burner set.

    • Day 446 - 2025-12-20 Woke up early and got some swings in before teaching putting all day. Looking forward to doing the same tomorrow.
    • It's miles better, though.
    • Went up to Erie for a lesson. I still need to work on how I shift my weight into my right leg and turn into the right leg. I extend it too much and externally rotate it too much. That all causes me to over rotate the hips and cause weight shift issues in the downswing. I need to feel like my right leg gains flex (it doesn’t), and my knee cap faces forward. The right hip sinks back and right. I need a need a ton more internal rotation. I still have some right elbow issues in the backswing. The path is better, but too much right elbow bend. I need to maintain width in the right elbow and let my right shoulder retract more, let’s say at A3, which helps keep that right arm extended.
    • Day 130 12-20 Today was just swinging what i had and go from there. Did focus on getting to lead side. Recorded swings for lesson  and hit real balls.
