Hey,

I went to a demo day at the start of last season and got fitted for Cobra S3 max with graphite shafts, 2 degree upright. I was a 26 handicap at the time and worked really hard to get my handicap down. I am now playing at a 12.1 handicap. I want to start being able to shape my shots.

I am considering a few different companies but I will use this iron as an example. The Taylormade r11.

Here's my question. the shaft specs tell me that the 9 iron for my s3 max is 36.25" long and that the r11 is 35.75" long. With that in mind, can I or can't I order r11's and put 2 degree upright...am I right? Does the shaft length affect the lie angle and how?

Shaft length very much effects lie angle. The longer the club the flatter you need the club. The shorter the more upright. If it was me and I was ordering forged clubs I'd order the length I wanted then hit every club off a lie board and bend it to whatever lie it needs.

Possibly. Your best bet will be to hit off a lie board when you get the clubs.
