I've been Playing Golf for: 1 Month

My current handicap index or average score is: 110

My typical ball flight is: N/A

The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: Slice Into the Trees

Videos:

The one on the left is a little newer. I know I tend to stand up in my backswing, but any other advice and critics to make my shots better would help. I get good distance on the ball, just about a 50/50 shot that it goes straight, I often hit it high and the wind takes it, or I have a slice. I've only been playing for about a month now and I can't tell you how addicted I've become. What a great sport that I wished I picked up much earlier in life.

Thanks for all the help in advance!

From what I can see at a first look, you seem to be coming from the outside a lot, especially on the first video (could be the angle as well, though). Try to get a video from the Down the Line view as well.

If you have a look at the Ball Flight Laws, you will see that a slice is a typical result of an outward to inside swing path with a square club face. There are many reasons why this is happening but one of the more common ones is an early release (casting) of the club with too much focus on the arms during the downswing. This shifts your swing path to the mentioned out-to-in.

Try to shorten the backswing a bit (here is some info on that: http://thesandtrap.com/t/35195/shorter-probably-better-swing-keep-the-right-arm-straight/ ) and focus on moving your lower body first initating the downswing.

    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
