I am a brand new golfer; I've played with some very cheap and very used clubs.  I'm looking for advice on a good set of clubs for a brand new golfer.  I don't want to break the bank, but yet I don't want a cheapo Walmart set that won't last.  I live two blocks from a course and I will be playing 2 to 3 times a week.  Any advice would be very much appreciated!

I bought my clubs seperately all on ebay and spent around 500 bucks total. Let me note that I did go into a shop and try out the clubs prior to purchase too.

You probably want to start with a club that is forgiving enough for you to enjoy the game.  Or if you are really going to put in the time and practice, step up to a club that is a players club as well as a game improvement club.

The burner 2.0 irons are very forgiving and are also a great club to game with.  The hit pretty long, even on the miss hits.  They can be had used at Golfsmith or Roger Dunn for 250 or less. (400 brand new).

I started playing June of 2011.  Before this i never owned a set of clubs.  I played once a week and went to the range 2-3 times a week.  I was playing the Burner 2.0 irons up until last week.  Now I play the Titleist AP2 710s and got fitted for them.  I put KBS tour shafts and cut them down 1/4 of an inch as well as adjusted the loft and lie.

I currently play of a 10.7 HC which i am very stoked on only playing since last June.

    • Can be out and up a little more. Not quite over-done yet.
    • Down the line and face on from today. Still feeling like I’m sticking the club into a hole in the ceiling above my right shoulder and then big loop inside to start downswing. That’s how it feels. Not how it looks though! Gotta keep working on this for a bit but I see a lot of progress. 😁
    • Day 5 (13 Mar 26) - Friday shootout cancelled- made it a practice round working from mixed tees. Plenty of up and down work around greens.  Best was a hole out birdie on the par 3 #5 hole - nice pitch and roll w/Pw from about 10yds off the green - dead center flagstick drop.  Much of round was focused on getting solid weight shift into lead foot.
    • Day 208 3-13 Worked on wrist arching and flow. First time hitting reall balls at a range in months. It was nice to see ball flight. Still not sure it beats my backyard practice station.
    • Three hole match - microphones on in the cart. It's fascinating listening to them talk about their shots and how they play them. I'm not normally a huge fan of the TM videos - they seem forced to me - but this one doesn't. It's also fun seeing their competitiveness over what on the face of it is a fairly meaningless 3 holes, but they can't help themselves.
