This guy writes for Golf Digest, has his own blog and contributes to the 'State of the Game' podcast. A well-known 'journalist' and course critic. Here is what he said in the State of the Game Podcast dates 27/11/13 after Mike Clayton (Australian Professional and course architecture partner with Geoff Ogilvie) stated that Ogilvie rated McIlroy above Adam Scott after watching him playing at Royal Sydney.

''I’m writing him off next year if he’s going to continue this legal wrangling nonsense. I just don’t see how with the trial just a couple of weeks after the Ryder Cup, you are going to have a good year with all that looming. And when you see the details of what he is haggling over, what he’s mad about… I think it’s important because it does speak to…to how much this stuff. I mean, look at this guy with this amazing talent…and I understand what Geoff Ogilvie is saying, that he probably has more all-round talent than Adam Scott…the short game…the whole package...but look at how much this kind of thing can derail a player when they have that talent. It shows you how fickle the game can be.''

Since this McIlroy has won the Australian Open, the European PGA and now the Open Champonship.

These are the people that write on the game and broadcast over the internet.

My question is this - can I get a job?

Sure. Write a column here. Get noticed. :-) Also I think Rory has people to handle the legal stuff. He can mostly just play golf.

What does it pay?

anyway, here is a couple for you.

1. the woman who McIlroy is licking his post-Caroline wounds with

2. The reason for all of the heavy security presence with RM down the 18th - chose Ireland for the Olympics, had an Uncle murdered by the UVF, is a MU fan in Liverpool. Not a well-liked man.

None of those mean much to me. There are a couple of what?

What's the latter have to do with this topic? Or the former, now that I think about it?

    • Day 27 - 2026-01-16 Played 18 with some of the usual "too many voices" going on when I'm working on swing stuff. Fun to get out in great bay area winter weather.
    • I know one recent college grad who's trying the same thing.  This guy was a Division III All-American, went on to play one year at Division I LSU, and is not working hard.  He won the Gulf States Open, a pro event, and made it to the second stage of the Korn Ferry Tour School late in the fall.  And didn't make the cut to get to the final stage.  I won't talk about swing or play stuff, but I believe there are a couple of things that are essential.  Obviously, talent, and drive, or work ethic.   I can't tell you how to do it, but you HAVE to get through it.  Golf is going to be your life, and it takes lots of work. Two more things that are really critical.  You'll need the facility to be able to practice.  My young friend stayed in Baton Rouge, as a past player on the team he can still use the LSU practice facilities.  And money.  Its unlikely you'll be able to work a full-time job and practice the way you will need to.  You'll probably need backing, from a parent, from a consortium of friends or club members., something to support you. Good luck, its not an easy path, but anything is possible.  Another young man from our area, Mike Brennan, just won for the first time on the "big" PGA Tour.
    • No one in the world is as smart as Phil thinks he is.
    • Get more comfortable with being uncomfortable. If you don’t like practicing then give up now. You don’t have the passion to become a pro. Unless that mentality changes you won’t do well under stressful situations.    Call the PGA Tour and ask. They probably have resources available.
