  1. The Aldilla shafts are very good. the low torque rating helps with control a lot I have a good Nike off the shelf driver, and a KZG with an aldilla shaft.. the feel when striking the ball is similar but the KZG hits much straighter on an off center hit.. The pro where I got the KZG said the average torque rating on an OEM graphite driver it about 4, and my Aldilla is 2.4. He said this difference alone means the ball will go 15 yards less off center on a one inch off center hit regardless of the head. I had the same shaft put in my Nike 3 wood because I was hitting my KZG driver more accurate then the 3 wood, since I hit my 3 wood as straight as my 3 or 4 iirons.
  2. So you must hit your 3 iron about 190 to 200. Seems plenty far to me.. How far do you hit your 5 wood or your hybrid? Is there a big gap between your irons and your fairway woods you need to fill? Unless there is a big gap, what difference does it make as long as you know how far you hit. High shots just mean they hit the green softer and stay more. since I took lessons I never know how far I'm going to hit. All of a sudden I guess what they were teaching me is starting to sink in because about every fourth or fifth swing I will hit the ball about 20 yards further than normal. It has gotten so I have to look at what is behind because if I aim at the green I might go over.
  3. Being about etiquite, shouldn't a slow player playing with a quick player be trying to speed up and meet the tempo at halfway.. Instead the slow player has complete control. He can play as slow as he wants and if the other player gets upset he has poor manners. Isn't it poor manners to slow another player down.. Not that what Rory did wasn't rude, but he had been playing with Crane three of the four days, and was in the group behind Crane the other day. And on the final round they started tied, at the 11th hole were still tied. After that he didn't do so well, and I would bet he felt the constant slow play, and being put on the clock when it wasn't his fault, affected his game, so of course he was upset. And on 17 when he hit another bad shot he lost his manners. I feel for him, I've wanted to blow up at a playing partners on a weekend round when paired up with someone I found distracting. And I don't play for money at all, let alone being in a position were a couple of strokes cost me tens of thousands of dollars. Also from what I've read, even though they were no longer on the clock, the group ahead on 18 was putting before Crane got to the tee box.
  4. a Jack Niclaus tip on the golf channel was to go ahead and hit from the bad, beat up grass at the driving range because hitting from good grass is easy if you can hit from there.
  5. That is the average on all non-par threes even when they are driving with 3 and 5 woods.. Check out the PGA stats,, Tiger averages 306, but we all know he hits 340 regularly, he has had 12 drives on tour this year over 360 and his longest drive this season is 408... I have no doubt several of the women hit over 300 when every they want if the course is open enough to take the chance.
  6. I actually prefer the mats, but where I normally practice doesn't have mats. The reason I prefer mats is what I'm normally working on isn't about fat or thin hits or divots, so the mat lets me concentrate on what I'm working on even when I swing fat. If I'm where there are no mats and hitting fat is breaking myconcentration I just tee everything, so it is not a big deal to me.. Of course if what I'm working on is taking the right amount of divot with short irons I avoid the mat.

    Jobs

Before 16, and even after I worked on a farm.. Picking Rock, (yes, rocks grow, at least it seems that way) bailing hay, shoveling you know what. Farms don't pay that well, but they almost always need help, and usually feed you.
  8. Yes and No,, I have a limited membership at a local club. Full memberships around here you still pay cart fee, it is about $2000 to $5000 initiation fee, and $1200 to $1800 a year. And some have food minimums. Plus finding discount rounds here is not that hard and I like to play different courses. So full membership just didn't seem worthwhile.. But one of the courses here has a limited membership for $39 a month with no init fee. I get unlimited driving range, cart fee only on twilight golf, and free group lessons when there is an opening. It is only a mile from my house and I use the driving range about three times a week. I find that alone worth the $39.
  9. Are you right or left handed.. if right, the ball is way too far back. if left, it is ok for woods and should move more toward center as you go down through the shorter clubs reaching center about the 8 iron. Hands really shouldn't be in front of the club head,, get a lesson.
  10. To watch,, Basketball,, (go Pistons) Motocross, and Superbike racing. As a participant,, Motorcycling, surfing and fishing. I use to play basketball and ride dirt bikes, but my old, bad knees prohibit it now days.
  11. Cheap or used clubs are fine for a beginner.. Even if not a beginner if you don't play regularly there is no need for expensive clubs... And if you decide you love the game and are getting serious, no matter how badly you play, if you play every week religiously, go for custom fit clubs. Check out these,, http://www.rockbottomgolf.com/09wil04hopelrh.html My wife has a similar Wilson set and she loves them. Her set came with a 7 wood instead of a SW. She has been playing for years, but only plays 12 to 15 times a year.
  12. I live in Florida and have never had a problem with my clubs being in the trunk, but the glue on my shoes gave out one day after leaving them in the car for a week. The whole bottoms fell off on the third hole, and the club we were at didn't have any shoes for sale,, it was like playing in mocasins.
  13. I like the Precept U-tri Tour best.. they feel real soft on and around the greens, hard to cut, rated longer off the driver than ProV1x and cost $10 a dozen less.. But I really don't score any better with a three piece ball over a cheaper two piece. "Independent golf ball ratings" rate the following as the top 4 longest off the driver Top Flight, Infinity rating of 75 Nike, power distance rating of 70 Precept, U-tri tour rating of 60 Titlest, ProV1x rating of 55 all other balls rate 50 or under. Driver Distance Rating: The rating assigned to the golf ball based upon a 100 point scale as derived from an average of the golf ball’s driver distance data collected by a human tester with a swing speed of 100 MPH on a launch monitor system. 5 points on the scale represents 1.5 yards difference in distance. The higher the rating, the longer the ball. An indication of the golf ball's driver distance performance.

    Pocket Items

Right pocket, ball repair tool with magnetic ball marker, half a dozen tees, and a ball. Left pocket, a ball.
  15. Bounce is the angle the bottom of the club hangs down from level to the ground at address. Sandwedges usually have the most bounce, this keeps them from digging in too far, where a PW with less bounce will just dig in and not get the ball out of the sand. The more angle or bounce, the more the club will bounce off the ground toward the ball. But of course it depends on the ground. The extra bounce on a SW when hitting from a hard pack/wet sand lie, is why they can be hard to hit. If you hit behind the ball it will bounce up and skull the ball, a PW with less bounce will dig in a little before it bounces and still hit the ball solid.
  16. the KZG forged Evolutions are great. http://www.kzgolf.com/forged_evolution.php
  17. Saw an interview on course design with Nicklaus. He said he designs as much for the average golfer as for pros and he agrees the average golfer does not hit any farther now than 20 years ago. He believes the average golfer deserves as nice a course that is enjoyable to play as a pro, so on courses that may have pro events he puts the back tees to 7000 to 7500 depending on the course, but puts the club tees at 6300 to 6500 so the average golfer will not be tempted to try from too far back to have fun. It makes for a long distance from back tees to member tees, but if the course has enough low HCs that they want tees in between it can be done no problem, but they have to ask for it.
  18. It varys from time to time, I don't drink that much, but like a lot of different drinks. TNT, High Jamaican Wind (Kahlua, spiced rum and cream), Bourbon Slush, Rum and Coke, JB and Dew, Mudslide, Mango Rum and OJ, Rasberry Margaritta, Mangocolada. for beer, New Castle, Mic Honey Lager, Mic Amber Bock, Tecate, Dos Equis. Or how about a nice glass of Sangria. If it's made with gin, Tanguray with rum, Lorenzo's with bourbon, Jim Beam
  19. The tubes will damage graphite shafts,, after I finally switched to graphite driver and woods, (only three years ago) I used a piece of clear packing tape on my graphite shafts to protect them until I bought a new bag.
  20. Don't think, just swing. sort of a smart-alec answer, but truthfully, the less I think, the better I hit.
