Nike one platinum vs black
sandtrap replied to walfice's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
The platinum is softer and spins more. Tiger told the Nike folks to give him a ball that spins as much as possible and he will worry about taking the spin off it. The black is too firm feeling for me and is comparable to pro V x -
My boys are 13 and 15 and love golf and the gear that comes with it. A trait that comes from me I guess. They are playing tournament golf in the IJGA all over the Chicagoland area. So there are 40-50 guys standing around the practice greens and all of these kids have the country club stand bags with the newest best gear you have ever seen. Fast forward 5 hours, I go back to pick them up and the adults are going out. The adults the guys who work and pay for every thing have the cheapest crap in their bags. The point? Buy your dad something nice for fathers day!

I played a scramble yesterday and the cart guy had a line that bears repeating. One of the guys shows up with a bag of clubs that are at least 35 years old. beat up laminated woods, original leather grips and a Hubert Green 1 iron. We all look at these antiques and the cart guy says "this guy needs to have a birthday" Yes we did use 3 of his shots during the round but it was ugly.

Does equipment make that big of a difference?
sandtrap replied to tazrestling27's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Let me ask you guys who don't think your clubs matter. If you are 6'4" and your buddy is 5' 2", can you wear the same size pants? Do you still wear platform shoes and bellbottoms? (well I'm sure some of you do) but do you get the point? What is best for me is not best for you and yes new tech is better than old tech. -
whats the most you've paid for a putter??
sandtrap replied to kekoa's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
The putter is the most underrated and the most used. $300 - $500 for a driver tha will be $50 in 3 years. But a $300 putter is still worth $200. Even the most beat up Scotty is still worth $100. I've spent $400 on a few including SC Napa, SC "the Reason" m400 and others. You should play with what works for you. Although I have numerous Scottys, I "play" with a TP Mills Traditional. That being said, you owe yourself a putter that you love the looks of and make puts with. -
"Who doesn't enjoy something new or extravagant every once in a while??? I'm just sayin' for my money, Miller Lite is the best...." No, what you said was. "If it ain't Miller Lite, it's pi$$!!!!!!! At Wrigley you get Old Style or Bud so yes it's Old Style. I've been living the High life for 30 years. Way before it was trendy. BTW it's way better from the bottle than the can. Drink on my man
-
You have got to be kidding me! I'm a Miller man myself but come on. The reason Lite and Bud light are so popular is because they don't taste like anything. The taste of the masses is no taste. It's vanilla. Try some Moose nuts:0, Or ? Broaden your horizons my boy, try a real beer, it won't hurt. Start slow, try a Bodingtons, or a Summer ale or a Yeungling or any of the other hundreds of beers that have been mentioned in this post. The next time you are in a bar look at the draft offerings and try a different one each day. Yes you can get taste buds, one beer at a time. Stay thirsty my friends.

It starts as a thought and turns into an obsession. One minute you are thinking about a 3 ball or a Heavy putter and the next thing you know you've got 110 putters. None of them the ones you started looking at. Camerons and Bettinardis and TP Mills of my. Now you're a "collector" and you can't drive by a golf store or a play it a again without stopping to see what you "need".. Boy that's a good deal on gloves, yes I need a 7th pair of shoes for only $59. How can I pass by a deal like that? It's a sickness, and you know what I feel better for having written this. The first step to a cure is admitting you have a problem. So go on my brothers of the fairways and get that new gear, you deserve it. I'll see you at the Golf Galaxy on Tuesdays, Golfsmith on Thursdays and PIA on Mon and Friday. Now I'm off to the Thread on Beer and slap down the guy that said if it's not Miller lite it's P.
-
Yes, yes, oh my god yes. It all starts with, I think I need a new putter but $150 for a Heavy or a 3 ball seems too much. Next thing you know you wouldn't be caught dead with those because you fell in love with Scotty, Bettinardi, and the Napa. You've got 110 putters in your "collection". can't drive by a golf store or a play it again to see what you "need"? But that's just me . Right? Good work my boy.
-
I'm obsessive. You start by looking for a new Heavy putter or a 3 ball and the next thing you know you are in love with the Napa and Scotty and you have 110 putters and a putting green in the basement. Can't pass by a golf store or a playit again without stopping to see what you "need". Good work my boy.

You can do jumping jacks behind me when I'm hitting. It's the jokes that get me. No practice swing, hit the ball man. I can't believe Tiger gets so upset. The ball just lays there, it's not like someones tring to throw it by you at 100mph with 45m fans screaming.
-
At this point it's about your head. You have to believe you can do it. most people look at their card and realize they are close and choke all over it. Just relax and make 5's. You will get a few 4s in there and the next thing you know it's 87 baby!

Slammer and the Squire at the World Golf Village in St Augustine. I think it's about 300. Pin high, some how I didn't choke all over myself and I made the 10 footer for eagle.

Scotty Cameron V Odyssey White Hot's
sandtrap replied to Akers's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
The 350 milled are very nice, about $285. If it was a scotty with the personalization it would be about $1200. Back to your question. Get the Scotty or a Bettinardi. Not the Mizuno but the older BB1 or BB8 if you like the newport style. Check ebay if $300 is to stiff. You can get a like new for about $200 or less. -
I'm willing to bet 75% of the people on this site never played with metal spikes. There is nothing like the sound on the cart paths and hey they worked. If you ask me the only real benefit to golf shoes now is they are waterproof.
-
I'm 6'2" and I use a 33". I find there is much less chance of stubbing the putt with the short stick.
-
I would just look at it as a 12* driver. there are plenty of them available from all of the big boys. The 2 wood was a good alternative when they were indeed wood.
-
For a draw, the ball should be back of center. Depends on your pendulum. Where do you usually play the ball?
-
For me it's the stance, open to fade close to draw. To equalize the natural fade simple move your left foot 3-5 inches forward and use your normal swing. It works if your mind will let it.

I played 142 one day in a golf marathon for charity. Sun up to sun down We played in two somes and each had your own cart and you played through the slower groups on the fly. It's amazing how well you play when you don't stress over each shot. Putts just go in because you aren't playing for score, just number of holes.

What he said. It could be worse. My great great grandfather came to this country for a better life and happiness. Two years later my great great grandmother tracked him down and put an end to it :)

What does your CLOTHING say about you?
sandtrap replied to TheGolfingDetective's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
That may be true but, there is a "uniform" for every sport. Play along. Don't be the brown suit at the black tie ball. -
I'm with you. If we aren't playing for money I don't care what you do as long as you play fast.
-
There are pros that have been unable to finish tournament rounds because they ran out of balls and their playing partners played a different brand. From what I remember it was very hot and to lighten the bag the caddie only had 6 balls in the bag. Through scuffing and balls to kids and loosing a couple the pro ran out of balls. Boy was the pro pissed. not sure if the caddie was fired.

What does your CLOTHING say about you?
sandtrap replied to TheGolfingDetective's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
This is a whole new thread my male shopping adverse friends. "Even if my wife gets dressed up" Well isn't that special? I am amazed that guys can't take a cue from the ladies. How many times do you see women dressed to the 9's with a guy in a T shirt and gym shoes? Aren't you looking at each other when you get dressed? Class up boys. I also don't get the jean day thing at work. If I wanted to wear jeans to work I'd be the greens keeper not the golfer.
