I would like to know if anyone is using the new Sonocaddie V300. I’m curious as to what you think of it. What do you like about it and do you have any dislikes about it. What is the display like? Does it take much time to enter your scores? I’m a guy that likes to keep track of my stats, this unit has that capability. Is it worth the money or should I just stick with my golfer’s handbook? I’d like to hear what everyone has to say about it good or bad. Thanks in advance.

What is the most difficult aspect of the mental game of golf for you? Is it dealing with the rub of the greens? Is it trying to get over a bad shot or a bad hole? Is it trying to deal with some jerk in your foursome that’s just being a complete idiot? Is it having to deal with slow players in front of you that forgot about letting faster groups play through? Maybe you’re having the best round of your life and the pressure of keeping it going is getting to you (you’re starting to think about how good your score could be). What is it folks, what throws you for a loop? For me it’s the jerk! I’ve learned how to deal with almost everything else except for the jerk. It’s something you have no control over. In a recent tournament I played, I had a jerk in my foursome in the first round. He was having a bad day and as the day wore on he got worse and worse. On the greens if he missed a short putt he would stick handle the ball until it went into the hole, (I know he didn’t count all his strokes, neither did his scorer) on one hole he actually kicked the ball into the hole (he should’ve been DQ-ed right there). On a 162 yard par 3 he took out his driver, after he shot I asked him what he was doing? His answer was he was trying to SKIP the ball off the water onto the green! Anyway to make a long painful story short, his antics wore on me and had an effect on my round. So What is it about the mental game of golf that gives you a difficult time?

I think genius is a stretch, although he does know his stuff. We all can't be aerospace engineers.

You are allowed 14 it makes no sense to carry fewer than that.

No not even close, although I've givin berth to a few!! Just like to keep track of my progress.

Although I fell short of the goals I set for myself this season I have to say it was a good year anyway. My playing partners were awesome for the most part, really only a couple of incidents all season and that’s pretty good seeing as how we played 56 rounds of golf together! They are a great bunch of guys. I started the year at an 8 handicap and finished up at a 7. This is not bad but its 2 strokes away from the goal I set of 5. But when I look at it, at one point during the year my cap was up to an 11 until things came around. We joked about it being spring training, but it sure lasted a long time. Greens in reg. Was not good this season, I finished the year at 49%. It’s about 6% lower than last season. This was definitely a sore spot that needs to be improved on if I’m going to get my cap down lower. Putts per green were respectable at 32.5 but I had too many 3 putts early in the year. I changed to a new Odyssey SRT 2 ball in June and started to putt much better. At one point near the end of the season I didn’t have a 3 putt for 5 rounds. Scrambling was another sore spot, I was only 35% in up and downs. This is definitely an area that needs work next season. Driving accuracy was respectable at 53% but should be better. On Oct. 5Th I purchase a new Titleist 907 D2 driver and I just love it and wish I had it at the start of the year, but who can justify $600.00 for 1 club. I found it at the end of the season when they were getting rid of this year’s stock, what a good buy. $320.00. Over my last 5 rounds using it I was 64% in fairways hit. Next season should be awesome. Diving distance has never been a problem for me I averaged 283 yards with my R7 quad. After purchasing the Titleist I was averaging 295 yards. Another thing to look forward to next season and just in case you want to know how I know my driving distance it’s because I have been using a golf GPS system for the past 3 years. If you don’t have one you’re at a disadvantage. Sand saves this season were a real surprise, at the being of the year it was pretty much the same old routine. I would maybe save 1 out of 5. Then I got a new 60* Cleveland CG12 with only 4* bounce. After I started using it out of the sand I started getting it up and down almost every time. I finished the year with a save percentage of 68. This was the real bright spot for my season. I only played in 1 tournament this year which is not what I had planned but it just worked out that way. It was our men’s amateur. I ended up being in the first flight playing against guys with caps from scratch to 8. I was at an 8 at the time; I didn’t have much of a chance at the low gross but did manage a low net prize. I won 6th low net; there were 6 low gross and 6 low net prizes for each flight. I played really well with the exception of 3 holes over the 2 day event. I shot 81 on both days which was only 1 shot over my cap (respectable). I had trouble on #1, 2, 3, on those 3 holes I was 11 over par in 2 days. They just killed me, and yes it was all in my head. My mental game was out of whack for sure. Well that about raps it up for me. I can’t wait until next season. I have purchased a membership at a place called Urban Golf links. They have an indoor practise range equipped with video camera and laser launch monitors, it’s so cool. They have 6 stalls set up like this. I plan on getting a head start on next season. How was your season?

My best shots of my round yesterday were both on par 3s. The first was on #2 a 182 yard hole. I used my ping i3 blade 6 iron, and with a nice smooth swing I played a little draw and landed on the green in front of the hole, it released and rolled up to what looked like about 3 or 4 feet. When we got to the hole it was 4 inches from a hole in one!! Then on #4 a 165 yard par 3 I used my 7 iron. The flag was in the middle of the green so I just wanted to hit it straight at the hole. I played the shot and the ball landed about 5 feet in front of the hole and rolled up to 10 inches from another hole in one!!

I shot a 76, 1 under on the front 34, and a 5 over 42 on the back. I was even par until # 15 a par 5 it was then that I started to think about shooting under par for the round. I let my mental game thoughts start to creep in and then went bogie, par, bogie, double bogie to finish. I started thinking too much and I know better. On the positive side it was a great round and the first time I have broken par on the front nine.
-
I shot a 77 today. Our course is par 35 and par 37. 34 on the front and 43 on the back. I went 5 over on the last 4 holes. A very good round and I know it. But I started thinking about shooting under par for the first time ever and shit happens.

Well I did it I broke down and bought a new driver. I have been reading a lot about the Titleist 907 D2. I had demoed one awhile back on a launch monitor and was impressed by how forgiving it was. Off center shots were not that bad usually only 7 to 10 yards off center. Our foursome went on a road trip and I found one and couldn’t pass up the price. It was a demo and they were clearing them out. Sweet! It’s a 907 D2, 9.5*, S flex, UST Proforce V2 75 and it’s very clean, absolutely no marks. Well today I took it and my R7 Quad to the range. After warming up I hit about 25 drives with the Titleist 907 D2 , Wow! When I swung at 80% I hit every drive down the middle and at least 285 to 295. When I swung all out I only missed 2 out of 10 drives, 80% is very good and they were deep down the range hitting the net 300 yards out 15 to 20 feet up. Now I had to try my R7, its 4 years old and only 400cc so it’s the first model that was made and I really like it, its 9.5* X-flex, Harrison Mungen. When I swing 80% with it I hit only 6 to 7 out of 10 down the middle and when I went all out I only hit 3 to 4 out of 10 down the middle. I have been averaging 283yds.with it this year. The Titleist is as advertized “very forgiving”. After my little comparison I tried shaping shots with the 907, like I said Wow! I never thought that you would be able to work the ball very well with such a big head I was wrong. I could easily work the ball either way. Move over R7 there’s a new big dog in my bag. I can’t wait to get it out on the course this Friday!

Well I just played my best round of the year, we went on a road trip to Salmon Arm. It's a very nice course that I've played once before and played well shooting a 76. This time out I shot 74, I broke par on the front with a 35 an was 3 over on the back with 39. It was a round filled with good shots, good drives and some assume putts that fell. The best part was when I entered the score my index dropped by .5, 6.9 to 6.4. A 7 handicap is one lower than I started the year with.

I completely agree with this. My foursome has 3 fellows over 70 years of age; 71(14 cap), 73(11 cap), 77(15 cap) and myself 49(8 cap) we play off of my cap and play skins for 2 bits it ain't much but it keeps you sharp and you get the braggin rights if you win.

I think this is a no brainier, I hate playing with someone that cheats it doesn't matter if they are a high or low handicap. Golf is an honorable game and cheating has no place in it period. Playing with high handicappers is part of the game and it doesn't bother me at all.

I've been counting my putts for years, and I believe I may be a little better than an average putter (33/round). My lowest total was 26 putts and my highest was 42 putts on a very tough course. So I don't think counting them makes you a better putter, to me it only makes me aware of how many 3 putts I take in a round. Which of course we all try to avoid. consistently practising your putting will make you a better putter.

It's been a relatively good year so far. I started out slowly and we just kept saying "Oh well it's just spring training" but it lasted longer than I would have liked. But for the past month and a half I've been very consistent. My index had gone up from 6.8 at the start of the year to 9.5. With my play of late though it's back down to 6.9. My goal for this year was to get it down to 5, so that's not too far away. We have at least 3 more months to play here.

Call it what you want, in my book unless it's in a scramble and that person is on your team it's very rude and poor etiquette. You can still learn something about the putt by standing off to the side out of the persons view. Also always stand still.
-
My highest score this year is 89 an the lowest I've shot so far this year is 76.

Mine would be when I shot a 2 over par 74 in the men's open at Sunset Ranch here in the Okanagan Valley. I followed it up the next day with an 81 and I won the overall low net for the tournament. Second best moment would be my hole in one 20 years ago.
-
We played yesterday and I shot 39- 41 for an 80 right on my cap of 8.
-
My best shot this week came yesterday on our #9 a 525 yd. par 5 dogleg left. I hit a very nice drive 292 yd. but it was done the left side of the fairway. Which left me 233 yd. to the hole. I used my G5 22* hybrid and bent it around the corner and ran it up on the green to within 25ft. I just missed the eagle putt, but a tap in bird sure is nice.

Who cares about your boss? The important thing about your thread is "you realized your actions were affecting your game and you have done something about it". Congrats on that.

If you struggle with the mental game of golf this article might help you out.

Right now I'm using an Odyssey 2 ball SRT. I like mallet putters, and this one has very nice balance.

I played in the longest day in golf one year, it was on June 21 the longest day of the year. It was a fund raiser for the Canadian Cancer Society. We started at 04:00 and played all day long going around and around the course as quickly as we could to play as many holes as we could. We had people sponsor us so much per hole. We played some really good golf and some really bad golf. We ended up playing 154 holes of golf that day. We raised over $6000.00 for the charity. It was a lot of fun but by the end we were very tired. My back hurt so much I didn't play again for 3 weeks. I sure felt good about what we had done though.
