We play a skins game all the time. Back home it's a little more competive where we play vagas, wolf, $2 to $5 a hole and usually have 2 games going. lots of fun.

I picked up one of the first Odyssey White hot putters one time and made 4 out of 5 putts from 30 feet so I bought it on the spot. It just felt so good.

I see there are still some slow learners out there.

Wow I guess the commercial is right TM is the #1 driver in golf hands down. My R7 quad is 3 years old, I changed the shaft out last year and I put a Harrison Mugen XS in it and this year my avg. drive is 286 yards. I bought a TP weight kit off ebay and I've work out a weight pattern that has worked well for me this year.

I think the hardest thing to learn at any stage of the game, is controlling your mental game of golf . To be able to come back after a bad hole and make par or a bird, and not let bad thoughts linger in your mind is not an easy thing to do. When something happens that rubs you the wrong way, whether it’s a bad shot or an unlucky bounce, having the ability to stay in the moment and focus on your next shot, is a skill that is highly regarded. It’s a skill that I have achieved several times, but have never mastered. I honestly don’t think anyone can master it.

Well $20 for 2 water is excessive. But you are absolutely right your friend should be embarrassed. If they are out there bringing you drinks and putting up with 200 guys a day hitting on them I believe they should be tipped well, at the very minimum $1/drink. I would have chased her down and given her more, not for your friend but just to get her to come back later on.

Congrats on your first round, and on getting over the hump. Just remember "We all had to start some where. Good luck and when you play give it your all.

I hit my G5 22* hybrid to within 4 feet on our #16 a 223 yd. par and made my bird yesterday. This is 1 of 2 par 3s on our back nine (#14-199 yd.) These to holes are affectionately know as to t easiest par 4s on the course.

The lowest round I've ever shot was in a men's open tournament in 2005 at Sunset Ranch here in the Okanagan. It was a 74, I was an 11 handicap at the time. We were teeing off on the 18th hole and one guy in our foursome says to me "hey all you need is a birdie on this par 5 and you can par the course! Thanks a lot buddy. That was the first time all day that I thought about how well I was doing and promptly made a boggie to finish. I held it together the next day and shot an 81. I ended up with a low net score of 133 and won the overall low net for the tournament. I was a pretty happy camper.

I already have the clubs in my bag so I don't think that part is relevant for me but as for the bag. Well I sure like the one Rodney Dangerfield had in Caddy Shack!!

I shot 79 today, hit 12 greens, had three 3 putt bogie's, missed 4 brides from inside 12 ft. and took 36 putts. I couldn't sink anything today. But overall it was 1 under my cap and it just went down some more so I can't complain about that.

I have 4 wedges in my bag and 2 are Cleveland and I think their excellent.

Which irons should I replace with hybrids?
marto97 replied to clickagent75's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
It's a personal choice when it comes to long irons or hybrids. I used to hit my long irons fairly well, but since I've gone the hybrid route I have to say I like them much better. They are way more forgiving and easier to hit. I also hit them farther than the long irons. If you struggle with any of your long irons, I would replace them. (3,4,5 irons) I have a friend back home that has cut 7 strokes off his handicap by changing to hybrids, the longest iron he uses now is his 6 iron. http://www.thegolfaholic.com/hybridgolfclubs.php -
Need opinion on my wedge setup
marto97 replied to clickagent75's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I have 4 wedges in my bag. pw46*,uw52*(gap) are ping i3/blades, and 2 cleveland, a 56* and a 60* low bounce. I like them all and use them all. -
We had our club championship a few weeks ago, I thought it was kind of early for it. I had to miss it as we had company that weekend. Our men's open is coming up this weekend (Aug30 to Sept.1) I've been looking forward to it all year, my playing partners say it's a great tournament. My game has been coming around really well and I'm ready. I'll give you all an update when its over.

I completely agree, slow players drive me nuts. You should have no problem keeping up to the group in front of you. When you have to wait on every shot you can't get a rhythm going. When you walk, if you're holding other groups up maybe you should ride. When you ride don't be driving around in circles like you're on a joy ride. I try to play 3 times a week, so I get to see a lot of other golfers, you would be amazed at how many are never ready to play. They wander around, then walk back to change clubs, then go back and get their putter. I mean get with it already. BE READY TO PLAY OR STAY HOME.

I play ay Summerland GCC, in BC's Okanagan Valley. Last Wednesday I shot 37-39 for a 76(best score this year) and came back Friday with a 38-41 for a 79. My best 2 back to back rounds this year. My cap is going in the right direction down. our mens open championship is coming up soon. Sept. long weekend it should be good.

Well this may be unbelievable but my personal best was on a par 5(517yds) at the Grand Centre golf & country club about 20 years ago. The drive was 430 yds. right down the middle, and yes there was a 15 to 20 mph wind behind me.
-
I shot 81 yesterday,42, 39 all in all it was a good round, scores are coming down, and so is my cap finally. I drove the ball well and putted well also. the only real disappointment were the 2 balls OB on the 2, 3 holes.

What is the Worst “Lie” in Golf? Let us begin with a few myth busters, shall we. Myths - 1) If you have a perfect golf swing you'll have a perfect game. 2) You can buy a better game 3) Technology has lowered golfers scores Most every golfer subscribes to these beliefs in one way or another. The entire golf instruction, training aid, and golf club making market bear this out. Golf magazines, tv shows, and article after article offer tips, fixes, cures and virtually every imaginable training aid conceivable to craft the perfect swing. All with the pretense of helping you play better golf. Well has it worked? Let's take a look... In 1978 75% of all golfers never broke 90 - so barely 25% ever shot in the 80's. In 2004, a full 26 years later, after the advent of 460CC drivers with 45" multi-kick point shafts, cavity back irons, balls that prevent hooks and slices, and world class instruction from the smartest minds in the buz, that number has been increased by a wopping 3%! Now a full 28% of all golfers have broken 90. But hey, let's cut the industry some slack, there's only been 90+ billion spent on golf equipment over that time! That doesn't include lessons or training aids! All that technology and collective wisdom and this is how far we've come...impressive, huh. Seriously, any other business that produced numbers like these for their customers would be out of business. But the golfing public has an insatiable appetite that an ever growing horde of manufacturers and marketers are more than willing to feed. Ok, do you want to pay me now or later for the moral booster? What? This doesn't get you pumped about your prospects of dropping your handicap by 10 strokes by buying the next training aid? You mean to tell me you're not going to do that $2,500 re-shafting, ball changing, loft angle adjusting, launch angle increasing, club-fitting session you had booked for next Saturday? Hmmm, was it something I said? As golfers we are bombarded with instruction tips, training options, and product offerings that'll have your head spinning faster than Paris Hilton after swizzeling a half dozen Crantini's. Where's the moral you ask? So where's the moral of this myth busting story? Do we all just give up trying to improve? Absolutely not. We all need to fulfill that important human craving of getting better at what we love. Yet where we place our attention to achieve this goal is what has to change. Our core beliefs about what causes improvement should be based on reality, not myths. They should empower us, not encourage wishful thinking and needlessly empty our wallets. "So if it isn't gear that makes us better maybe it's lessons," did I hear you say? Certainly lessons are an asset and obviously accelerate your skill development yet they're not absolutely essential either. Ask Lee Trevino, Jim Furyk, Chris Dimarco and countless others who are self taught. And I think we can all agree that there isn't much "pretty" about any of their swings. Do you think any of them were intent on crafting the perfect swing? Yet if we look at things from a different perspective maybe they do have perfect swings. Why? Because they work! Golf ain't a beauty contest. In the final analysis there is only one area that promotes the quickest and most lasting change in any golfers game. And what's interesting about it is this is the only area that doesn't cost a penny to use, yet almost no-one uses it. That area is the often quoted 6 inches between your ears! Your mind. The mental game. Using your mind in a strategic, methodical and focused way is the surest method of lowering your scores. Period. If you want to run out and spend $500 on a new driver and another $1000 or more on irons to make you play better, feel free. You might be that one in a million that changes the statistics. I realize we'll all buy nice gear once in a while but we can't buy it with a belief that this will seriously lower our scores. Needless to say, this article won't be sponsored by Taylor Made or Nike any time soon. I don't help sell much golf equipment! No, my approach to lowering your handicap, improving your swing, and increasing your satisfaction leans towards inner change before outer gains. True improvement only begins when we first assess where we are in relation to our goal. Then we must take an inventory of all the things that have actually produced measurable results . Which means no denial! We can't hope to move our game to the next level by hanging on to a lie, now can we? If you do then that's what I call a real "hanging lie". And that is the worst lie in golf. Each and every one of us has the innate ability to tap our own potential and transform any part of our lives, including golf. We just require the right road map and a good compass to keep us on target. It's time to wake up and smell the napalm or the myths that cloud our brains will keep us believing we can buy a better game.

Ya I think you got a decent deal, I would try and send the driver back to Nike you never now you could get a new one back.

What's The Farthest Golf Ball You Have Ever Hit?
marto97 replied to RKO's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I have been doing some experimenting myself with different balls and so far I have used: Titleist ProV1x, Titleist ProV1, Titleist NXT Tour, Bridgstone B330S, Callaway HX Tour, Nike oneblack . The longest ball so far was the Callaway HX tour (I avg. 286 yds) and the Bridgstone B330S was a close second (I avg. 284.75 yds). But in all fairness I have to try the other balls again because the weather is finally warming up to seasonable temps. here in the Okanagan. In case you are wandering how I came up with these numbers I use the sky caddie SG2 to track the distance of all my drives. http://www.thegolfaholic.com/rts/ind...92&siteid;=1606 I haven't tried any of the so called distance balls yet but I plan to. (distance is usually not an issue for me) -
Offer him 300 cash, and tell him it will take at least 50 bucks to get the driver fixed. If he doesnt go for it let him sit and look around some more. http://www.thegolfaholic.com/rts/ind...51&siteid;=1606

I shot 80 yesterday. Third straight round in the low 80s. Although it's close to my cap it was a very scrambly round. I only hit 3 greens and 6/14 fairways. The lone bright spot was my putting (had 28 putts) and I made 7 of 12 up and downs for par. Still I had one 3 putt on the last hole of course. All in all not to bad but still more room to improve, I can't wait to get out again on Friday.
