  2. Keep up the good work! It's great to see you progressing
  3. Keep up the good work! The first week is designed to "get you moving the right way" The next few weeks begin to get more difficult. But you'll be ready....
  4. Absolutely, Hip swings both lateral and back/forth... This takes 2 min and can be done at the first tee box. I never go a round without doing them.
  5. Quick question for all the golfers who don't quite feel 100% mobile on the course... Where do you feel "inflexible"? As a golf-fitness professional, I am always trying to get feed-back from different golfers on what is bothering them the most. This way, I can design and develop the best possible exercise programs for you. Today, as I asked earlier, I am curious to where most golfers feel tight and inflexible. Is it your back, hips, neck, hamstrings, etc.??? Personally, my hips are sometimes tight at the beginning of a round, so I don't get full rotation. A couple quick dynamic movements and I am all ready to go. So thanks for the input! It will be incredibly valuable as I begin designing my flexibility program! -Grant Pettegrew BS CSCS golfconditioningnow.com
  6. It is better to eater smaller, more frequent meals throughout the day... Through a factor called the "thermic effect of food," you will automatically boost your metabolism by following this meal plan. It is easy, effective, AND you get to eat all the the time. I have been doing this for years now and not only is my metabolism running high, but my energy is consistent since this strategy helps stabilize blood sugar. Great for golfers, great for anybody! -Grant
  7. Quick Tip: Avoid the processed foods like white carbs and sugar! Why?- They spike your blood sugar, which subsequently cause your to "crash," creating that sluggish feeling. That WILL ABSOLUTELY affect your golf game. Good advice earlier about staying with the unprocessed foods. That's advice I give all of my clients and they immediately feel the results. Hope that helps... -Grant
  8. Aerobic exercise is great! It improves you cardiovascular function and efficiently. Simply put, you can make more out of less. This is definitely beneficial at the end of a round! But that is only a small piece of the pie... Resistance training, balance exercises, functional movements, flexibility routines and more can really take your game to the next level... Give them a try and I guarantee you will never look back. A simple thought on exercise in general... You never regret working out (as long as you do it the right way). You will never get to the end of the week and say "shoot, I wish I didn't exercise." You always feel better afterwards. Message me if you need any help with your exercise program!
  9. Keep on answering the poll above! The feedback is great to see, as it helps me create exercise programs that help golfers with their specific problems. The more information I have the better. Thanks! -Grant
  10. To start off I haven't read this guy's book (only glanced at his website), but I would be suspicious. I studied health and exercise for 4 years and have 2 fitness certification (1 post grad). I tell you this not to brag or "get on a high horse," but rather let you know I have an above average knowledge of how the body operates. I feel confident in the information I provide and hopefully I can help others sort through the crap that can be presented. First, supplements are just that, supplemental to your normal dietary routine. Quality, non-processed, nutrition properly timed throughout the day will help you increase your energy, improve your sleep and sex life, decrease fat, and more. And by quality nutrition properly timed throughout the day, I mean frequent small meals, consisting of a complex carbs, lean proteins, and good fats. Thats the abbreviated version. Second, exercise can be efficient and effective at the same time. You don't need to be exercising for 90 minutes a day. You can easily get a great workout in only 45 minutes. Actually, studies show that our bodies begin a hormonal shift after about 45-50 minutes of good exercise. After that time frame, exercise can become detrimental, depending on intensity. I can continue to ramble about other little things within both of those topics, but I that could be a long, long post. Does anyone have any specific questions? I would love to help. -Grant
  11. I'm sorry your having problems, but I checked all the links and they seem to be working fine... The website is up and running at 100%. I'm not sure what the issue is. Let me know if you figure out the problem.
  12. Jake- Kudos to you for recognizing the problem at an early age. Mentally committing can be the most important step towards achieving your goals. Quick tip... Although walking/other constant cardio activities are important, they are just the tip of the iceberg. In order to see true results, you need to incorporate many other forms of physical activity, with resistance training arguably being the most important. Crazy dieting WILL DESTROY YOUR METABOLISM and you will battle with your weight for a long time. You need to build your body into a fat burning machine (a little cliche, but true). It may take time, but losing weight the right way will serve you for a long time and the results will be infinitely more rewarding. Would you like more personal help with not only weight loss but also your golf game? I am a personal trainer/strength and conditioning specialist. I specialize in 2 things: - Helping golfers improve their game - Helping people transform their bodies A lot of times (much like you), my clients fit both criteria! Contact me if you would like to speak more. I would love to guide you through this process, as I can already tell how dedicated you are. Good Luck and don't be afraid to ask questions! -Grant
  13. 42 on 9holes in Centennial.... Not too happy b/c my short game was a mess. I was hitting ball well enough to shoot 38-39ish. Bummer... Back to the chipping green for me
  14. A good dynamic warm-up i by far the best way to get your muscles activated the right way... Btw, anytime you swing the club you are working your fast twitch muscle fibers, not your slow. SO to help, training the muscles OUTSIDE the golf course is going to be most effective. Tee-box warm-ups can only take you so far. Developing fast twitch fibers can be done through resistance training! Pick up the weights and your body will begin to adapt. ...and a nod to uber$wing, upperbody plyometrics and olympic style lifts will be your most effective, BUT if you are an inexperienced weightlifter I definitely do not recommend starting there. A standard golf conditioning program would be effective for any beginner. I spent 4+ years learning about exercise and how it can help golfers, so let me know if you have any other questions! -Grant
  15. Thanks Erik! You are spot on about health and the ability to do the things you love. I always tell my clients: "golf is more enjoyable when you feel, look, and play your best." Exercise will help with all three! Great to speak with an instructor btw...I am sure we can help a lot of people on thesandtrap together. -Grant
