I sometimes break tees on drives, but normally the tee should come out of the ground and fly up. That's what I have always heard, and what seems to happen when I am striking the ball well. I would think if the tee is breaking, you are hitting the ball too high on the club face. Also, anytime you have a chance to use tee, do it.

scotty camerons hype or the real deal
T.J.K. replied to GOLFSALOT00's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
It's a mixture of everything. Scotty Cameron makes some of the best putters in the world. There are many other putter makers that are just as good. I wouldn't say better though. Slighter, C&L;, TP Mills all make putters that are just as high a quality as Scotty Camerons. You don't see them as much though because the edge that Cameron has is his marketing. He is a marketing genius! That's what it boils down too. His putters are great but his marketing is better. And for some, yes, it is the name, but so what. If a 36 handicap wants a $300 dollar SC, then so be it. It's his money. A retail SC is not that expensive. If someone wants to collect $1500 limited/tour editions. So be it. Who does it hurt? If they want to game it, so what. I routinely pay $600-1000 dollars for vintage baseball cards. Does that make me crazy? I don't think so. I like expensive clothes.....so what. It's not anyone elses money but mine. To me people just have such strong emotions on Cameron, whether positive or negative, and it seems like something that just isn't that important. You also have to keep in mind that $1500 bucks may not be all that much money to a lot of people out there. -
Thinking of making the jump to blades.

Unless it was on carpet. I can hit darn near anything solid on a swing mat. If you haven't played them in grass, you might want to do that first. -
Most appropriate wedge for 20-30 yard shot?
T.J.K. replied to jspangli's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Agreed. A flop shot should be your last option. I will only attempt a flop if it's a necessity like if I have to go over a bunker and no green to work with, or something like that. Pros don't use the flop all that much. It's hard to answer though without knowing the exact shot your faced with. -
Their not forged though are they? Great sticks though. I'm not a Titleist fan, but I love their look.

Most appropriate wedge for 20-30 yard shot?
T.J.K. replied to jspangli's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
It depends. If I am just off the green, I may use a 7 or 8 iron for a bump and run, but I usually use my pitching wedge. -
Golf near Palmdale/Lancaster California??
T.J.K. replied to T.J.K.'s topic in Golf Courses and Architecture
I wanted to ask about Rancho Vista Golf Course in Palmdale. Anyone played it? I don't expect anything great, but it's only 5 minutes from my hotel so I was hoping it was okay. Remember, I pretty much only play Oklahoma Muni's so I'm not used to anything too special. -
I would try Coke first. It seems like salt could actually put pits in the club if it rusts it to bad.

I live in Oklahoma City, 20-30 mile per hour winds are a calm day for me -
What do you hit from 200 yards?
T.J.K. replied to nykfan4life's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Usually I would go with 4 iron, maybe a 3 depeding on the conditions. -
I've heard if you soke a club in it's raw state in Coke overnight it will rust it pretty bad. You gotta get the chrome off though to get the rust look. Are you going for the rust look or oil can look? They are not the same. If you want the oil can look, you have to get the chrome off, get it clean and polish it really well. Then just heat it with a propane torch till it's red, and dip it in some kind of oil, like motor oil.

Thanks for the info Ben. It is definitely appreciated. -
Most of the handmades say Scott Cameron on the face right?
-
I don't believe that is true. He customizes some by hand maybe, but he doesn't hand make a putter for every tour player that uses them. Just found this article from Golf Digest. Here's a quote from Mike Weir "I've used the same putter--a Scotty Cameron Newport--for six years. Bought it out of a golf shop when I was on the Canadian tour. I like the look of it and it has a great, soft feel. But that doesn't keep me from experimenting with other putters." Doesn't sound hand made to me.
-
That comment is epic. How about the rest of the putter makers that make their putters by hand
-
Beat me too it on the 2 ball comment
-
They are quality putters and a lot of pros use them. Alot guys use the two-ball also. He pays more pros than you know of or I know of. I would bet my life on it. I would just consider it part of his marketing fund, and by the way you're talking, it must work :)
-
You do realize he pays them to play them don't ya? I like Cameron putters too, but you need to check out some others if you think his are best bar none. Check out TP Mills, Slighter, Byron Morgan............the list goes on and on.
-
Hmm, I don't really know what I would want right now. I know I would want some Scratch wedges. Other than that, I haven't thought to hard about it.
-
Don't get carried away. There are many other putter makers who are just as good or better than Scotty Cameron. Some are cheaper, some are not. Cameron is the best at marketing his putters though. That's undeniable.

You're impossible. I may be misunderstanding you, but from what I am reading this is what I am getting. It's okay for me to say Shortgame85 is not very smart. But I can't say Shortgame85 is a stupid.

Thanks guys for all the replies. I will definitely check in to some of your suggestions. Unfortunately I am going there to work and am gonna be away from my family for a long time so I am not really looking forward to it. Hopefully I can play enough golf to keep my mind off of things you know. -
I understand the difference, however, calling someone a con-man when it doesn't make since would be an insult. He may think he's a con-man but saying he is the biggest con-man of the decade would be an insult that isn't based on any facts, just opinion.
