  1. I have that opportunity! Been interested in golf my whole life. I bought a 5 iron with my own money as a kid and some cheap balls and would hit them in the park across the way from my grandmom's Have been to various ranges at various times, mostly using a loaner driver from the range But lately I've gotten into golf for real and plan on actually playing once I get consistent So I have the opportunity to save every scorecard from every course the rest of my life and I think that'd be pretty cool to have records of my (hopeful) progression as well as where and when I've played Discuss!
  2. That's an interesting point. Know of any sources that back this up, i.e. golfers don't have to play their sponsor? I know that 5-10 years ago Tiger definitely used Titleist irons. And now I believe he's exclusively using Nike clubs and balls and everything. I'm not sure how his Nike contracts have changed thru the years.
  3. Some really good tips thanks guys The "turn your shoulders more" comment is very interesting. If I clear my head and bring the club back I don't get as far as if I mentally think to myself "turn your shoulders". Can anyone comment on how I should be turning my body? Should I stay square the whole time essentially or should I let my chest turn 90 degrees until it's facing backwards?
  4. Lotsa naysayers here If someone can fix my broken JVC miniDV camcorder I'll take video of me hitting balls. Or I could use my digital camera which has horrible quality but might still get the job done
  5. Note: I am a beginner But I think that here are your basics as far as how far the ball goes: 1) The speed at which your club hits the ball 2) The force at which you hit the ball The rest has to be there as well like hitting the ball at the right horizontal/vertical position The club itself may be 10% or so in my opinion Now again, I am a beginner, but yesterday I was hitting my no-name 7 iron 200 yards. Now granted I also hit a ton of crappy shots but if a beginner like me can do it it makes me think that my being in good shape and strong is most of what it's all about
  6. Tell me more about the Ping bags and why you recommend them please
  7. The hottest song in the world right now http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EwTZ2xpQwpA Here's an article about it in the Daily Telegraph http://www.news.com.au/dailytelegrap...012327,00.html
  8. I saw one guy golfing a particular hole and noticed 2 balls on the fairway. He came up to them and struck them both and continued on. He was obviously playing both balls. Wondering where this falls on golfing etiquette He was by himself and it was not very busy at all at a new course that only has 9 holes finished I think he was a beginner and so am I and I would like to do the same thing if it's somewhat acceptable
  9. I've been focusing on achieving a stiff straight left arm (I'm a righty and swing righty) On my backswing I can bring the club back until my left arm is about parallel to the ground without bending my left arm's elbow. But at that point I can't go any further Tips?
  10. I got a nice Callaway golf bag that's cart style a couple years ago before I was serious about golf or knew what I was buying It stands up OK on most turf but has tipped over. I'm pretty strong so carrying it isn't that big of a deal Should I use it or try to find some kind of stand for converting cart bags to walking bags? Or should I just sell it and buy a lighter bag with a built in stand for walking the course? Thanks for any comments
  11. Good point. But keep in mind many sponsorship relationships require usage of that company's equipment. You have Titleist as 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in various categories up there. I would bet compared to other companies in number of golfers sponsored they are either 1, 2, or 3.
  12. I'm a beginner with flashes of greatness (in my mind ) I hooked my first 30 hits today. I finally realized I was somehow closing out the face on the club head. Most of my next shots were beautiful. I can't tell if it's the grip or if I'm just screwing something up on the backswing. It seemed to be the grip because once I started hitting the ball right the club and grip felt different and I could mostly tell when I was about to hit it square on or when it was off. Any comments?
  13. What's up I'm new here too I'll be on vacation at the Jersey shore in a few weeks maybe we could play a round?
  14. Titleist seems to have quite a following on this board Anyone care to explain? The two independent golf equipment testing companies I know don't have Titleist ranked up that high in terms of performance
  15. More people die from water intoxication (too much water) than dehydration http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Water_intoxication The More You Know(TM)
  16. How you all doin? I'm still a beginner but since I'm young and still a very good athlete I hope to get decent at this game as soon as possible I've hit and putted off and on since I was a kid but have never played a real 9 or 18 hole course. I will soon though and until then have been hitting almost every day on the range as well as chipping and putting on the practice green
