  1. Pretty much exactly what I was going to say. Sometimes I play my best golf when I get stuck behind a slow twosome or foursome because I take extra time to analyze everything, but in the case where you are behind a foursome with nobody in front of you, very simply, they should let you play through. I play alone at my local course nearly everyday, whether it is at peak playing times or 7am or whenever, and when someone sees me coming up from behind them they either finish out the hole and wait for me to tee off after they shot, or tee off before them, or even ask me to join with them. Whatever happens, I am fine with, but under no circumstances should a foursome ever hold up a single if there are open holes, I do not care what course you are playing, its just ridiculous.. the only time the single should stay behind the foursome is if he/she chooses to do so. If there are a few groups in front of the foursome, just skip ahead of all of them, or hit a bunch of different shots from your second shot, or third shot, or hit 10-15 putts from a tough spot on the green, hit some sand shots. AKA practice around the green, you aren't bothering the group in front of you and you are getting more than you paid for on the course. If there is another group behind you as well as in front of you, then I guess you picked the wrong time of day to go golf and you are gonna have to suck it up.
  2. The best thing I have read is whoever was talking about "how the game is played" Iacas I believe said that, but the point is, if you place the top of the grip on your stomach or chest or forearm or forehead or wherever, and use it as a tool to help you swing straighter, I feel that there is something slightly wrong with that. I use a normal length putter, and practice my putting stroke as well as my pre shot routine to become a better putter. Watching Adam Scott disgusts me because he literally holds the top of the putter to his upper stomach or lower chest and then uses a claw like grip with his right hand and just pushes the ball... Yes, that took a lot of practice to master, I'm sure, but it just seems like there is something wrong with it, considering how many players before them used regular putters and were successful. I don't know maybe I am an idiot, but I frown upon the use of a belly putter, which sucks because Adam Scott, and Keegan Bradley have two of the nicest swings on the tour imo, Scott's is technically soung, and Bradley's got such a nice tempo, and pure shot.
  3. Something that I am very eager to try is a few tips I saw on a youtube video called "quickie pitching tip," but it also was extremely relatable to iron shots along with pitching and even chipping, I just practice about 500 practice swings trying to consistently do the same stroke as the video, hand movement and club position along with when to move my hips etc etc. and it felt like a much more solid swing and even made me feel like my irons were going to be a strong part of my game the next round (usually they are the reason I cannot break par in a good round of 18). http://thesandtrap.com/t/39411/quickie-pitching-video That should work, but if it doesn't just search the forum for shot and instructor or whatever it is, definitely helped me!
  4. A bit of a twist of the subject, but given the circumstances you will all understand. I have never met my biological Father, but my Mother is the most important person in the world to me. With that being said, my Step Father and her play in a Friday night league at our local golf course and I had to sub for my Step Dad for whatever reason. I am a pretty good golfer 80% of the time, but 20% of the time the wheels fall off and I shoot ridiculously high numbers for no reason, until I just tell myself to take a break or relax, but I told you that to tell you this. We played 9 holes of best ball on a par 36 3,500 yard course and shot -4 against the best couple on the Friday night league (both had a handicap under 5). That isn't even the best part, I drove a par 4 in one and my Mom sank the eagle putt from about 20 feet away, and then I hit a par 5 in two and she sunk another long eagle putt from a scary downhill putt that probably would've rolled off the green if she didn't drop it (mine rolled off the green into a sand trap). She also birdied a 100 yard par 3 by herself and claimed that she hadn't played this good in years, but unfortunately we bogeyed the last hole for the first and only under par round of her life, 32. One of my best memories in life and golf.
  5. Just use the foot wedge, considering the round was not during a championship or anything like that, who will know? :D Phil Mickelson... thats who. But seriously. In my opinion, the only people who want free relief from a bad lie are people who probably don't really play the game the right way anyhow. I played with a friend of mine who had an extremely brutal divot in front of about a 6 foot par putt. He hit the putt, it hit the divot, he missed the putt. He told me he was going to score himself a par, instead I told him to hit the putt from the same distance, two inches to the left, he missed that putt also, with no divot. Moral of the story is, you should let you buddy make up some nonsensical rule to help him come that much closer to a par on that hole because in the grand scheme of things, he is the one missing out on the best part of the game, and thats the integrity that has been passed on throughout the years from the pros and the weekened duffer 25+ handicappers, and the people who actually count there first shot instead of the second shot.
  6. Dustin Johnson seriously has to be the most up and down golfer in the PGA, everyone was so hyped about Mcilroy when he finally won, but seriously DJ has had some pretty serious tournaments this year, and many outstanding rounds, I think I would pick DJ over Rory, what do you guys think?
  7. Ok, the difference between Van de Velde and Dufner is during the whole tournament the last 4 holes at ACC were playing harder than almost any other PGA Championship to date, and it just so happened the Dufner hit a very bad shot into the water on the 15th, were he still only bogeyed. Van de Velde played the worst final hole ever probably, there is no need to hit a driver, there is no need to go for the green, there is no need to take off your shoes and get in the water, and it just so happened that the guy who expected to take 2nd holed a nice sand shot in a very clutch moment, Keegan Bradley played the last 4 holes better than most did all tournament on the last and toughest day. You can say Dufner choked, I say Keegan Bradley played out of his mind while Jason Dufner showed that he was human like that rest of us.
  8. I couldn't give you a reason as to why you hit your shots to the right like that, besides what someone else said about hitting it fat instead of picking it clean, but my biggest problem with hybrids was I couldnt really get comfortable with the fact that I had a club that looked like a wood, but had the length of an iron, and I don't just mean the physical appearance. I had to tell myself every time I swung the hybrid that I needed to swing down on the ball instead of picking it off the ground like a 5 wood or 3 wood. The best shot I ever hit with my hybrid was on a 185 yard par 3 where I tilted the grib of the club about 3 inches forward to get the face a little less lofty, and I swung downward and through the ball with my best "draw" swing. I stuck it about 5 feet from the hole after it started about 15 feet wide of the hole and curled back into it. The easiest place for me to get 100% comfortable with my hybrids was off the tee for par 3's and longer holes that demanded a precise drive instead of a lengthy one. My suggestion is shorten your backswing to make it more of a pitch or chip shot with the hybrid, and gradually work the backswing further back once you consistently strike the ball the way you want, and never give up on the hybrids because I feel they are a great way to help someone score better (and legal like the belly putter shouldn't be ;)
  9. I'd like to see you standing on the 15th hole at ACC looking at a 265 par 3 with a significant pond to the right of the green where if I am correct, most right handed players are more likely to miss right than left, and thats exactly what Keegan and Jason did. +3 in regulation isn't that bad considering there were a shit ton of other players that went +3 on the 18th hole alone, it just happened to be at the most important point of the tournament. Keegan Bradley hit one of the most underrated and untalked about putts in the PGA Championship on the 16th I believe the bounce back from his triple bogey, probably like a 40 foot putt that if he misses goes 8-10 passed the hole. Great tournament to both, cant beat someone up for taking 2nd at the toughest tournament of the year.
  10. I hit my 7 iron 165, usually pretty straight, usually a normal amount of height, but when I swing about 85% max power I find I add a significant amount of accuracy to my irons and sacrafice a miniscule amount of distance (about 150 to be exact). So it doesn't matter how far you hit a specific club because you always have another club to hit it a little further, if you are having problems hitting a hybrid as far as on of your longer irons, you should just practice using that club more often instead of shying away from it when you think you should hit it (like I was with hitting a 3 wood off the ground, now its my favorite shot after lots of practice).
  11. I was on the 5th hole of my local course in upstate New York, a very rolling and hilly golf course. I hit a decent tee shot down the middle of the fairway, but did not clear a collection of trees so I had no clear veiw of the par 5 green in just two shots (about 495 yards). I decided to get creative and go for the green instead of hitting a low iron to get over the trees and I pulled out a 5 wood from about 210, and practiced a few swings in an attempt to generate a mild fade. Sure enough I nutted it and it had a fast, hard fade back towards the green that left me extremely excited about an eagle put anywhere on the green. As I approached the green I realized just how good my shot was as it sat about 5 feet away from the cup below the hole for a very straight and easy eagle putt uphill. I drilled the putt in the middle of the cup for a very satifying eagle, especially since I bogeyed the hole before that and eventually the hole after that (the two hardest holes on the course in between an almost 500 yard par 5). Gotta love golf!
  12. Just by reading about standing too close to the ball with your irons, hands almost touching the inner thighs, too fast of a tempo, instead of trying to score low I should just try to fix my long iron game and then worry about the score. The summer is almost over and I have yet to shoot an under par round for 18 holes, but I have shot a 71 on a par 70, so I am right there, hopefully this switch in my swing will help me achieve my goal. The only goal I have had all summer, that and improving my around the green play.
  13. Its pretty pathetic when I will get multiple birdies in a round, and still end up well over par because on the holes I need a long to mid iron I hit shots that are just unrecoverable. I have tried to move the ball all around my stance, but I will concentrate on leaving it in the back of my stance, along with trying hold back my aggression with the long clubs, instead ill just club down and hit a smooth shot, and let you know how it goes.
  14. First of all, im a 5 handicap, about 5'9", and have a swing speed with a driver definitely over 100 mph, I have a set of callaway irons that fit me extremely well and I play nearly everyday, and continue to improve, BUT over the past few weeks I've had more rounds than I would like over 80 at a 6900 yard par 70 course, and I completely blame my sporadic iron play. From my own personal analysis (and im no swing coach) I was standing to close to the ball and it was creating lots of thin shots along with a mild to average slice that was seriously killing my distance (a flush hit 7 iron goes about 160-165) and when this shot occurs it will probably fly 130 and start out right of the target with that baby slice.. I have never had this problem before and it has effected my confidence with longer irons and long par 3's because I have changed my swing drastically trying to figure out a cure.. luckily I hit a pretty long driver and my pitching wedge and 9 are usually pretty reliable from 135 in, along with a very good putter, so my game hasn't suffered horribly, but id love any feedback anyone might have, or any advice.
