Wedge setup (not as in stance/setup)
i2!ch replied to i2!ch's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
lol i just found the Wedge Replacement post ( http://thesandtrap.com/forum/showthr...ighlight=wedge ) -
I'm not sure if anyone's ever discussed this but I want to know if this would be a good wedge setup: PW - 48 (actually 47 with my 704.CB's but same thing) SW - 54 degree LW - 60 degree I currently have a 48-52-56 setup but I'm interested in getting a lob wedge. However, that would mean 4 wedges which also means no hybrid in the bag. If I do get a 48-54-60 setup, i'm afraid the difference in lofts will be too much. What to do? what to dooo?

........ Give me your most comprehensive review of the club once you get it. PLEASE.... I desperately need a hybrid club. Not having one HAS helped me learn to hit my 3 Iron but I really wish I could go for more par 5's or be closer to the hole when I can't hit my driver. My game is getting better so quickly these days, I think its because I get free balls at the range now that I'm an employee there and I really think some new equipment could plug some gaps that are still in my game... I remember messing up my second shot on a par 5 with my shitty 3 wood... there's a really troublesome stream on that hole so I hit a 3 iron off the tee PERFECTLY but I still had a lot left to the water... 3 wood would have been a little risky but a utility or something could have made life a lot easier... unfortunately, I ended up with a double or something like that...

I use to rip up my skin all the time with my grip. I played a lot this summer so I developed a lot of callousses but the best thing you can do is check your grip pressure. Or like my instructor says, pretend your holding a tofu or a squid in your hands. I didn't know I was gripping too tightly until I noticed how tense my forearms were. The best thing to do is to get someone to check up on your grip.

I voted frequently but I'd like to change my answer. I don't see gamesmanship as low-class except when you're trying to have a friendly round and you decide you have to beat your friends or playing partner to have fun. You have to put on the heat sometimes, especially when you're playing for your school to win the league championships. But usually, I'm only worried about my own game and I actually try to block out my opponents or playing partners COMPLETELY. Like the article said, its a double edged sword so if someone begins being a jerk for no good reason, they can guarantee I won't be giving them any 2 footers. When i'm playing for money or something with my friends, I usually just try and pressure them by taking everything very seriously instead of by saying anything that could get into their heads. Throwing off their focus doesn't feel as effective as REALLY putting the pressure on them over a putt that could potentially cost them their weeks allowance.

HOLED A SHOT FROM 135 YARDS TODAY Par 4, tee shot was short but in the fairway. Conditions were pretty dry so i was expecting some roll and i happened to be correct. Perfect trajectory, slightest draw, and bounce-bounce-roll into the cup. First eagle ever and first hole-out from off the green. I've gotten so close to chipping or pitching it in so many times and somehow i manage to hole it from 135 yards. Pretty amazing shot... too bad i couldnt complete my round =/ oh well. at least i know how it feels to hit a pro shot =P

Hey you should make this a poll or a sticky or something so we can see how the majority of us putts.

where the heck did you find that picture? I got NO search results when i was looking for more information on that club. google just sent me back here -_-;; btw, that club looks SWEEEEEET
-
Simple Question: What type of putting style do you use? I'm right handed and I use a crossover grip with the back of my left hand pretty strong and resting heavily on top of my right hand. I've found that this REALLY limits any twisting and allows me to focus more on speed. I attached a picture.

Damn I know how that feels... I still haven't broken 40 for 9 or 80 for 18... It's definitely the mental game because i've gotten so close this past season. Hopefully I can continue to sharpen my mental game before the season ends (which is something I am NOT NOT NOT looking forward to)

In my opinion, 99.9999% of shanks come from improper set-up. People say 'feel over mechanics', I say ingrain the proper mechanics into your "feel" of a good golf swing. =]

First you need to check a few things. You could be PULLING the ball because your stance is somewhat open and your clubface is shut at impact. What I recommend is doing the opposite: set your right foot back until ur aiming your feet at least 10 degrees off line BUT SQUARE YOUR BODY AND CLUB. This will allow you to play some nice hook/draws. If you ARE coming over the top, you're hands and body will disconnect completely somewhere in the downswing and you'll definitely feel it. Feel your arms come nicely from your right around your hips and let your clubface run squarely down the target line. This usually works for me. You're probably hitting pulls because your 'feel' has kinda shifted over time. That usually happens if you prefer anything other than "square" positions and play that way for too long. If you see the pros, 90%+ of them try to keep everything square. FEEL relies too much on personal preferences and that's hard to fix when you're off. If you keep everything square, you can easily find what you're doing wrong. In other words: Keep Everything Squared.

WOW............. where i live, $50 wont get you ANYTHING.... range balls are EXPENSIVE here in Bergen County, NJ. I dont see how $200 bucks a month could hurt ur wallet that much... i spend that much for balls in like 7-8 weeks WITH the $40 bonus we get wen i put $200 bucks into my range card......ADD LESSONS AND GREEN FEES TO THAT

i examined the video a lot and i have a few things to say if u dont mind listening to a teenager. i agree with NCGolfer about bending from the hips more. i've been working on the same thing and its going great for me. i have a lot of room for my hands to clear my hips and run down the target line. if you can run down your target line and produce a long divot, your shots have no where to go but straight. also, moving a little away from the ball lets you extend your arms nicely and fix that chicken wing/left arm. AND it helps you keep your shoulders square at impact. I watched the video very closely and your shoulders look a little open at impact (i recently fixed that as well). Eventually, it'll feel like everything's falling into place like it should be One last thing, you've got some serious speed... while i was watching the video, i noticed your shaft bends like ^%#$ which looks really cool. keep it up EDIT finish your swing your weight shift looks great up til your finish where it looks like you're leaning a bit on your right toes. make sure all your spikes show and dont force your hips to a stop or slow them down. after impact, let the club and hands guide your body to a nice, solid finish where you can almost take ur right foot off the ground for a second. it'll look much better and it'll get a load off your back which could be hurting at this point... but don't force anything i just mentioned. just bend over more from the hips like NCGolfer said and your arms and their blazing speed will bring u up to a sweet finish

par 3 138 yards didnt hit the 8iron solid or it felt like i didnt..... low draw, checked up and hit the pin, about a foot and a half for birdie... this was actually a few weeks ago but i still remember par 3 about 200 yards. pulled out a 5 wood and aimed nearly 20 yards left cuz i was pushing and slicing all day. hit a terrible shot but it ended up 3 feet from the hole....... somehow i missed the putt which bugged me for the rest of the round

if you have an upper classmen friend who played on the team, try to get him to get ur coach interested in you. that helped me a lot and always show proper etiquette
-
i have the 704's which have a satin finish and i've compared them to my instructor's 690.CB's and i can really say that the shiny sweet look of the 690's give u a bit more confidence. the stainless carbon actually has gotten a lot of good and bad reviews so i don't know what to say about them. still feels pretty good to me

About two weeks ago, my score was steadily decreasing. BUT, after I shot one of my best rounds, my teacher started something entirely new. We worked on what separates the good from the bad, keeping my shoulder line completely squared at and throughout impact and maintaining a good followthrough where the arms stay in front of my sternum. I didn't understand (and still don't) what was so hard about it at first but now my score has just skyrocketed. it went from mid 80's to the point where keeping score is a terrible pain. My coach said scores always go up before they can continue to drop but his words really weren't too reassuring after i walked off without finishing my round on the same day he told me that. just wanted to hear some other peoples opinions on this.

ur callway irons have some odd lofts but it's like that for a reason. the forgiveness and low CG of easy to hit irons usually come with a price - distance. a callaway 2002 big bertha PW will pretty much give u the same distance as any other PW with a higher loft. ur big berthas help get the ball airborn but too high a trajectory can take away some distance so callaway lowers the loft. a titleist 690 muscle back PWedge has 48 degrees of loft but my cavity back 704 PWedge has 47degrees, yet they go the same distance (i've tried). pick either the callaway gap wedge or the 52degree one to keep in ur bag, they're the same thing. don't be foolish and waste money on something u dont need hope this helped

i just got out of an iron slump today by hitting 3/4 and smaller shots. my fullswing was messing up my impact and followthrough, giving me a terrible feel so i brought my swing down and focused on what was REALLY bogging me down which was my impact position. sometimes it's better to look at the smaller picture don't know if that helps but now my 3/4 SW goes almost 100 yards

MAN U SAID IT i got so ticked off when she started crying and whining over second place... shes really gotta learn to control her emotions or i personally think she won't have a chance at winning
