One of the best things about online lessons is it forces the student to use his or her camera on their own time to record. From their they can associate feels with what is really going on.

Straighten right arm through impact?
sk golf replied to AmazingWhacker's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I couldn't agree more with Erik's thread! From what I have seen, "releasing" the club is a sure way to hit low pull/hooks or pull/slices. Did your instructor explain why you needed to work on this? What is your normal ball flight? -
Straighten right arm through impact?

In 2011 I taught over 1,000 lessons and never told any of my students to "roll their wrists"... -
Quote: Definitely need to keep working on the foot work. That is exactly what Mike mvmac is talking about. Use the pictures he posted above. ^ Basically what is happening is your extension is way to soon and that gives you the "non fluid" look. If you clean up some pieces in the down swing, that will change the look of the follow through. I promise . Put a chair or stick behind you at address and from the top of your swing have your left hip bump into the chair. Also, keep practicing the banking drills Mike advised above.

Always remember when making swing changes feel is not real. Work on these changes in order. Below is a drill that will help you.

Having a hard time hitting off grass

Generally I would suggest more weight forward and hands further forward. This will help move his low point further forward. Here is a drill that will help with the hands. -
Just to be clear I wanted to add a dtl picture also

This might be a good drill for you to incorporate that feel.

Instead of feeling like your holding off feel like your adding pressure. Feel like you are applying more and more pressure into you left foot (I am assuming you are RH) from A4 to A6. In your rehearsals feel like your hips are slanted left, left should down, and from there the arms drop faster. Sounds like you have been working on this for awhile, so I would add in the feeling from A4 to A6 that your very narrow. I'll post a picture below of what I mean. Finally, this is pretty tough, so don't get too discouraged and stick with it.

I would recommend either posting a video here or signing up for evolvr. http://evolvr.thegolfevolution.com/ That way you can stop guessing and make sure you are working in the right direction. Best of luck -

This is a tough one. In your practice swings break it up into 2 parts. 1. Pause for a couple seconds at A6 with more left knee flex, left shoulder down etc... 2. Poor on the extension pieces to the finish

Nice Tat!

Hi Poser, You're doing great and are on the right track. Sorry if there was any confusion with the analysis but I'll just reiterate what I said in the video. Left shoulder stays low longer from A4 down, back stays towards the target longer while your arms move down so the hands are just in front of the right thigh at A6. Mikes video above is exactly what you need to practice regarding the "pump drill". And try that other drill I gave you with the glove under the left arm.

Thanks for posting Erik

I am concerned with, "That’s when you swing the club over the top you go this way and you see how your body wont react, that’s why your wrists aren’t rolling either." (from the video) I would love to see a face on video...

Here is the commercial if it hasn't already been posted here...

My clients would practice into a net between and sometimes during the lesson, we would meet once a week (more or less depending on their schedule of course) for the actual lesson. Basically, I give them material, they practice material in a net (of course they can play outside too, but they make changes the "fastest" into a net), then we meet again and check on progress. I don't know if this answers your question?

This is great! haha

Sure you saw somebody post earlier that it is a key note that they have to understand the swing...well if they understand the swing enough to analyze what is happening without seeing the end result, they they are smart enough to put aside the need distance that you claim is the root or evil in fixing a swing on a regular driving range. If the majority of people were able to analyze their own swing then there would not be simulators and golf instructors charging $100's per hour to help them. I wonder, How far away from the hitting location is the net? 5, 10, 20 yards maybe? Next time you go and play and you hit a bad shot, could you tell in the 1st 20 yards that it was bad? Every time? (this of course only applies to shots that actually got air-born...) QUESTION 1: Has anybody ever hit the ball and thought "ohh that felt great", then look up and see it isn't where you thought it would be? Well get used to it if you buy a net... QUESTION 2: What other sport do you try and learn by practicing and practicing and gaining muscle memory that is hard to break prior to seeing what the results of your practice is? People underestimate how hard it is to make a swing change. Of course people need to hit balls outside, but I myself have seen my clients make bigger swing changes faster hitting into a net. Typically it is easier for them to focus on their swing. As that gets more comfortable they can implement the new pieces easier outside. As far as Quote: YOU HAVE TO KNOW WHERE THE BALL IS GOING...If you don't know where the ball is going how do you know what you are doing is correct? people can hit straight shots and do plenty of things wrong. The idea would be to get some direction from a good Instructor, use a net to help practice the new information, and of course also hit balls outside.

Change typically feels uncomfortable... after all your doing something you weren't doing before. I would limit your swing thoughts to 1 or 2 at the most. Practice those thoughts until you own them and then continue to build from there.
