  1. i think of it as dropping into the slot, or stabbing the ball with the grip of the club
  2. what about a sharpie line on a ball makes the game untraditional? If you truly wanted to play the game traditionally, you'd use persimmon woods and hickory shafts, and a wound ball. Do you? I once read an interview with Jack, where he stated that he thought one of Tiger's strongest putting attributes was the ability to pick a line and trust it. Interesting, i thought. third post in a rows the charm :) I have an odyssey 2-ball putter. I feel like I'm cheating with that club. I'm money on anything inside 8 feet. Anyone with a two ball, when you're standing over the ball, move the putter back from the ball about 6 inches. you'll get an excellent assist with where the putter is aimed. its why i feel like i'm cheating with that putter.
  3. I should have lots of motivation to lose weight, but i don't have the time. I know, thats what everyone says. But right now, i;m working an average of 60 hours a week, and it varies from the middle of the night to an all day marathon. My plan for this winter is to setup a few old pieces i have in the garage, i have a total gym, a treadmill, and an ab lounger that were given to us by my father in law. i hope to start a routine this winter that i can do whenever i have time. As far as switching to stack and tilt, my current swing is doing ok for me, i don't see the need to switch. i carry a 9.4 index, and my problem is the short game. i'm a decent putter, but i don't have a lot of time to practice chipping and pitching. what little practice i do get in those areas comes a few minutes before each round.
  4. if i look back at my round from this morning, i shot an 82. I missed four birdie putts, and an eagle putt (made that birdie). If I had made those putts, I would have shot 76. I missed a lot of greens today. I had 8/18 greens. I'm noticing a trend. The lower handicaps are saying putts, and the higher handicaps are saying greens...I will say this. My loins don't feel a good putt. They do feel that 150 yard shot struck perfectly (like butter) to 2 feet.
  5. i play the ball based on the desired trajectory. the further forward i play, the higher i hit it. also true with the chips and pitches. if i want a low runner, i play it way back. if i want a high soft shot, i play it forward. When i want to work the ball either way, the trajectory (height) dictates ball position, the intended initial flightpath of the ball dictates feet alignment, and i turn the clubhead to point where i want the ball to end up.
  6. Heres what i meant by Tiger-esque. You know how when Tiger plays, you see every one of his shots on TV? That was Duval when he was on top. Now that he seems to have lost his game, when he starts making birdies the TV coverage all of a sudden turns to him. He has a following of both cheers and jeers. People want to see if he's making a come back, whether they like him or not. I think people are hungry for a rival for Tiger. Phil has some flashes of greatness, and then he misses four or five cuts in a row, only to flash again. We all love Tiger (don't we?) but I think we want to see someone challenge him on a regular basis.
  7. my back is fine. its a weight thing. my current "conventional" swing doesn't cause me any pain. In fact, after a few days without golf my back starts to tighten up and hurt. Then on Saturday morning, I pull out the weighted club on the first tee, and every vertebrae cracks. Voila! No more pain. It feels great.
  8. jesus, dude. you do realize it was a joke, don't you?
  9. Duval has a Tiger-esque aura about him. He's the guy you either love, or love to hate, like everyone feels about tiger. no one can argue about his game, though. he does have talent, not sure why he fell off the map, but wouldn't it be fun to see him regain form and make a run at the fedex cup against tiger or phil? that would be exciting. Daly would have the same affect.
  10. when the golf digest first printed the stack and tilt article, i immediately went to the backyard and starting trying it, hitting balls into my net. Let me tell you, I hit every single one flush, and hard. I was hitting a 4 iron off the ground, and you know when you hit a long iron and can't feel the ball hit the club its that clean? every one felt like that. However, after about 20 swings, my lower back was really really sore. Now, I'm a bit overweight, and a lot out of shape, so I'm sure thats why it hurt, but if i could use stack and tilt without hurting myself, i would.
  11. nevermind about the signature part
  12. hey guys, now that golf season is winding down i was looking for someplace to feed my addiction. looking forward to a short winter. how long before i can have a signature? anyone know?
  13. its not your height that determines the length of the shaft, its how far your wrists are from the ground. i am 6'3" and 1/2" extensions for me... imho, for just starting, get the walmart set. see if you like the game first. if you do, look into a nice set of used clubs.
  14. whereabouts in the hudson valley? I lived in new windsor most of my life, moved upstate in '04.
  15. I've got 2. 5th hole is a 180 yd par 3. Just short and left of the green is a small apple tree. A member of my foursome hits his ball into that tree. He's under there preparing to chip, and asks us to watch for his ball, his view is blocked. He hits the chip, ball flies leaves and branches, lands on the green, and goes in the hole!!! We're all hooting and hollering at what a great shot it is, and he says what do you mean, my ball is still in the tree. We go and look at the cup, and its an apple in the hole. the second was staged. A friend of mine is a bit of a trickster, and he takes two balls, tees one up, and balances the second on top of that. He then takes a swing at the bottom ball, which he hits down the middle, and the top ball pops up in the air about 6 feet. He catched the top ball and puts it in his pocket. Pretty cool to see it
