  1. Also ~ Golfweek plays a max triple bogey, thus not really strokeplay. Golf Channel, a 10 is a 10.... That’s a huge difference in competition...
  2. Yes, I think a 46 degree Voley wedge spins more than the stock pitching wedge ~ but I use the Vokey for other reasons. I use all 4 wedges for full shots. Mentally, when I pull one of my wedges, I expect to hit the ball close to the pin. I also prefer the bounce and center of gravity location on the vokey to the stock ap2. I also acknowledge everyone uses their wedges for their own specific purposes ;->

  4. It's my belief that "better" players (be they PGA players, or locals with handicaps in low single digits) prefer fast greens. The reason for this is that faster greens are easier to make the 5-10 foot putts that these players have to make to score. These putts are more make-able on fast greens for the reasons explained above (shorter stroke, less room for error) than they are on slow greens. For higher handicappers, who make a lower percentage of these 5-10 footers, (and are likely less accomplished putters) faster greens may be more of a challenge, and create more 3 putts due to a lack of speed control on their putts. As far as "hard" greens are concerned (as described above), I dont think ANYONE likes those. Harmonius did a great job above of differentiating between the two. It's my observation that very few PGA events are held on courses with "hard" greens that wont hold an approach shot (exceptions for the Euro layouts where the Open Championships are often held).
  5. Agree with you 100%. Kelly Tilghman is about the worst thing golf has representing it on TV. Go Matt !!!!
  6. I'm considering reshafting myTour Edge Exotics xcg5 3 wood, replacing the stock Fujikura Blur shaft with a MItsubishi Diamana Blue Board. The Blur is a 65 gram shaft, stiff flex. I have a Blue Board 73g in my D910 driver, and have read many comments here advocating the BB as a "great FW shaft". The BB is available in 63,73,83,93 gram shafts - so I'm looking for advice on selecting a shaft weight for my 3 wood. I am leaning toward either s 73 or 83. My swing speed with a driver is 95-100 mph, and I hit my 3 wood 220 - 235 yards. I welcome your advice...
  7. Good Luck...one piece of advice...be honest when you give the Tour Director your handicap.... Most people's "Tournament Index" ( your average score / index in Tournament golf) is higher than what they report as their GHIN. I think the pressure of Tournament golf gets to all of us...
  8. Very surprised that the TP Mills putters didn't even get a "silver" ranking. Although the anvil series is not "hand forged" as Mr. Mills formerly made them, they are incredible putters....Feel is noticeably different (and better, IMHO) than a Cameron or anything else.
  9. Hello all from the beautiful Dunnavant Valley of Alabama....with Double Oak Mountain at our back, and Shoal Creek GC just down the road, its truly a wonderful place.
  10. I think that the Mich Ultra Tour became the GC AmTour...
  11. Great move with the TE 3 wood.... I just put one in my bag and LOVE it. I have played 2 rounds with it, and hit 12 shots (we have 5 par 5s and one short par 4 on my home track). Of 12 shots, 11 have been ON THE MONEY, including hitting the green 50% of the time on par 5s with my 2nd shot. One thing to note - they have a neutral set up (not draw biased), so you can rotate thru the ball full on without worrying about hooking it. Good luck !
  12. My experience: - Played (original) AP1s for a while, The moved to TM r9s. Played those for two years, and bought a set of (original) AP2s on a bit of a lark. After playing the AP2s for two rounds, shot a career low of 72. Found the AP2s to be very easy to hit, and I ma not a great ballstriker. I was impressed enough with the AP2s that I got a set of 712 AP2s for Christmas this year. My GHIN in 8.6, and have fluctuated between 11 and 7 over the time period I just described. Based on my experience, I found the AP2s a good fit for my game - I think you would as well given the description that you provided.
  13. I have played on the GC AmTour for 4 years and it has been one of the best experiences of my life. It was my first experience playing "real" competitive golf (I did not play in high school or college), and I cannot say enough good things about it. The tour seems to have gotten bettre each year (for example, there were "sandbaggers" in the first year that I played, but the Golf Channel has gradually fixed that problem with the use of a "Tour Index" - which is based upon how you actually score in the "Tour" events. Admittedly, you pay more to play in the event than you would normally pay play at the same course - but that covers prizes, range balls, and the cost of putting on a tournament. One of the unexpected benefits has been that playing tournament golf has forced me to really improve my game - which is what we are all after, I believe.
