Agreed, but his comment was that these guys play at a different level... some unachievable physical level that few are privileged to enjoy. I'm sure his comment was spurred by the beastly nature of the course hosting the U.S. Open this year. I was only disputing that aspect of the comment.
-
And very probable at this course...

I will preface this comment with a disclaimer: PGA Tour golfers are the best of the best. They are the elite. However... there might be more to it than that. They have a world of technology and equipment at their disposal, a significant amount of time on their hands to practice, a caddy that is extremely knowledgeable about the course and all things golf, & (most importantly) the money to go whenever and wherever they want. You would be surprised at how many people could actually play at that same level if given the right tools to do the job. They play a completely different game from us because it's what they do for a living. I bet I know 4 or 5 guys that, if given the same lifestyle and unlimited funds, could easily play at their level. They are good, but its not as rare as you would think. Yes, there are many exceptions to my statement, Tiger & Jack for example, who truly are talented beyond what is normal.

Who gives a rats ass if its a sport or a game? It is however, the best one ever!!

Mickelson wins the Open because Johnny Miller gave him a tip on how to play Olympic Club... I read it in GOLF Magazine.
-
Better go Thursday or Friday...

If I'm Tiger, Phil, Luke, etc., I would be at Olympic Club the day after the Memorial. If not, I play Memphis like its just another week. I think the guys need a break sometimes and the week before a major is a great week to plan off. However, in a weaker field I have to feel better about my chances. If my card isn't wrapped up for 2013, I'm in every tourny every week. Seems that I would have better chances at Memphis than the U.S. Open anyway. - Garrigus gets redemption at Southwind in 2012 - G-Mac, Levin, Rollins, Palmer, Laird, & Stenson make a nice showing - McIlroy and DJ miss the cut and are on a plane to San Fran

P. Mickelson - +1 T. Woods - +3 J. Rose - +5

(deep breath...) Rory McIlroy & Tiger Woods. I feel like I'm breaking some kind of rule...
-
McIlroy sucks... Seriously, thats a joke. But, damn he picked a bad time to loose his game. I had no more proclaimed him the new Tiger and he's missed every cut since. Chump...
-
Tiger's respect is earned... its due to his unbelievable accomplishments. Those accomplishments have a lot to do with how often he played in the early years. When Tiger began his career he played 20-22 PGA events a year... and he won everywhere. I'm not suggesting that McIlroy sell his soul and forsake his values. I am suggesting that he should be playing the PGA tour instead of wherever the hell he is right now. The only other PGA event (to this date) he played this year (vs) last year is The Players... give me a break! There have been 21 events already and he's played 6. I'm saying he should have a fire in his belly right now. I'm saying he should be here and playing PGA events. His half-ass effort towards his PGA membership is a bit arrogant... and frankly, he isn't the only person doing it. Where is Luke Donald every week?? They pull out of the USA after a nice finish and don't come back until their #1 spot is in jeopardy.
-
Another thing about McIlroy that will make it harder for him to earn Tiger-like respect is the fact that he only plays the big events over here. Take the last 2 weeks for example... if he were here racking up stats it would only help his image. I know his home is in another country, but he did commit to playing our tour. He's only 23, what the hell is he doing right now?? When he plays sporadically it almost comes off as arrogant, to me anyway. These are your glory years! I can attest to the injuries this game dishes out and I'm just 30. He should be taking advantage of his youth and setting the bar right now, IMO.

Read the post... I blamed them for Rory's misguidance, not his poor play. LuciusWooding summed it up in his statement that followed your trash.
-
I blame a lot of it on Lee Westwood. I don't like his personality during interviews, his arrogance in the press room, or his negative outlook toward the PGA tour. He's a real smart ass. I believe Westwood had more to do with it than Chandler... but they were both to blame for Rory's misguidance.
-
I agree 100%... he didn't let up when he was in his prime. Tiger just handed people their asses and walked off with the trophy. He didn't miss cuts, or puts to win. On a side note, thanks for missing the cut Rory. I take the time to toot your horn and this is how you re-pay me...
-
The point I was trying to make is that the comparison is becoming a valid discussion. The length Rory had at the Wells Fargo is another gear people. Its brand new to him and I dont expect him to have it harnessed yet. Its a game changer, hell its a career changer. Its unmatched for his size and raw talent. Bubba, DJ, & Garrigus are long... but Rory is not plagued with a 10 cent head. Lets face it, no one will ever be Tiger again... not even Tiger. Its early still, but damn, this McIlroy kid is the new "it" guy. I think my initial comments were just a reflection of how I felt watching him play... I feel it again.

Hit one in from about 55yds today for eagle on a par 5!!! Just a mid-flight scooter that hit once, bit hard, and fell in. Very fun indeed!!
-
I almost hate to say it, but... I now see the " Rory McIlroy is comparable to Tiger " discussion as legitimate conversation now. Did you see the show he put on at the Wells Fargo last week?? Seriously, he made Quail Hollow look like a 6200yd municipal course! By his own admission he didn't play very well coming down the stretch, and he still managed to get into the play-off. I can understand his frustration... it must be hard to flag-hunt when you suddenly hit the ball 25yds further with every club!! Up to this point I've refrained from comparing anyone to Tiger, at least to any player younger than him. The reason for that is, quite simply there has been no one to compare him to... until now. I remember the look of dis-belief and silly grins on my face watching young Tiger Woods amaze the world with his abilities. I'm feeling it again people. Rory McIlroy is a Tiger-esqe golfer. Its the unparalleled length and the laser approach shots. Its that slightly disgusted look when he knows he can do better. Its the grit and determination that shines through when he rebounds. Its the way Feherty says "was that a 3-wood?!?!?!" after he outdrove Ricky Fowler by 20yds. You can see the talent oozing out of him when he smiles because the game is so stinking fun. Needless to say, I'm drinkin the water. Watch this kid Rory McIlroy and enjoy the show!

That's funny!!! Quote: Dude, Holly Sonders is S-M-O-K-I-N... like, I find myself lusting, and totally forget what they're talking about.

Rory McIlroy baby!!! This cat is playin some G-O-L-F right now. He's got a score to settle with Augusta. This kid can go rediculous low on tough tracks and he hits it like an angel just took on human from. If the putter's workin, its Rory's to loose. Damn this is gonna be a good one to watch!!

I dont mind a little "angry guy"... I think gettin fired up is a good thing. I've turned many a bad round back to the good when I get mad. It also depends on the caliber of player thats getting mad. For example, if a scratch golfer throws a fit, I can give him some slack. If a hacker throws a fit, thats un-called for. This is known as the "pissy guy." This is the guy that mopes around because he wants SO freakin bad to shoot a 75, but he cant break 90. His first double bogey and he's done. This irritates me to no end. This guy is also known as "the scorekeeper"

Hey dumbass, You never play college golf because you've got a 10 cent head... and you blew it at the state tourny your junior AND senior year. You never play amatuer golf because you hurt your back on a stupid 4-wheeler. You basically stop playing at age 30 because you have a beuatiful family (...and a bad back) that takes up the majority of your time and money. In short, this game only takes from you and never gives it back. Heartache and dissapointment lie ahead. Learn to play the guitar instead.
