Playing Concepts versus Swing Mechanics.
Patrick57 replied to Patrick57's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
'Concept' - A general idea derived or inferred from specific instances or occurrences. Our body understands and can perform better when a simple concept is put in place instead of lengthy and complicated explanations of swing mechanics etc. Beginners adopt a good posture when you use comparisons like 'goalkeeper, gun-slinger, skier etc' instead of trying to explain this using directives for every body part. I find all of the four swing concepts simplifies the mechanics and the cutting grass concept encourages golfers to perform something that they are actually doing during the practise swing. I prefer to give the command, "Jump" instead of saying, " Bend your knees and push yourself away from the ground." -

I think the first three are the most important and 5SK is just a complicated way of explaining one and three. Knowledghe of D-Plane would help more with a physics major than the golf game.
I also prefer cutting grass with a lawn mower.
Who's stopping you? -
He was a pupil at the school during the Dublane disaster and he was born and brought up there. I'm Scottish and my father is Scottish but apart from that I'm as Irish as Shamrock. I'm also a celt and a Celtic Fan. Andy Murray is definitely not a Celtic fan.:-D

To say I am impressed with the correction would be an understatement. However I would have been even more impressed if you had any comments about the original post. :-D -

Hi Logman, Its all so Petty. I start a thread with some substance and they all jump on my back again and again. I will discuss GAASP, and so on, when I can find some time. I'm still trying to grasp the comment about aligning the body and aiming being the same fundamental. Thats like saying stance and posture is the same thing.:-\ -

Sir Walter Scott wrote a wonderful piece about me... "The wretch concentred all in self. Living shall forfeit fair renoun and doubly dying shall go down, To the vile depths from whence he sprung. Unhonoured, unwept and unsung!" If this is a quoting contest, then I think I've won hands down. Go ponder yourself. -
Yes! Yes! Yes! and Yes! Murray! Murray! Murray! Up the Scots!

Most of the men at my course - except for those who hit the driver 260+ yds - use Callaway Legacy balls. At first they feel too soft with the driver but I've done the Pepsi test and they travel further for me and most of the men at my course. As for the ladies, give them any old tattie. :-P

Oh, OK then!
Why not change it to a scarlet "T"?
Good idea!
Patrick,I have read in some of your other posts that you want to discuss golf and some of your ideals. This is not being honest as to why you post your ideals and theories. You are a person that wants to be the "Giver" of great information that you fully understand and others don't and guide them down your path to golf greatness. You do not want people to question your wisdom, you want them to be impressed by it and ram it down every ones throat. You claim to shoot in the 70's and also to be a teacher .In your mind this gives you creditability and think people will be impressed by it. I don't think anyone belives that you are a teacher Patrick. For me you gave yourself away by posting pictures of one of your "Students" and asked the forum for advice on how to fix his swing!! Patrick, no teacher would do this. I think you should do yourself a favor and get some help!!
I've been for help and I am trying to turn over a new leaf. Have you ever heard of a thing called forgiveness? I dared to question the hierarchy of this board and have been branded for life. I'm not seeking to be liked or believed, in fact, I don't give a holy. BTW, coaching is my thing, and perhaps as I don't have a major in English, my brilliance doesn't seem to shine through. Just a thought! -
I would just like to offer patriotic good wishes to Andy Murray on his quest for Olympic gold against a Swiss has been player called Fedarsole. Who's with me? ;-)

But you can't resist doing so!
I couldn't care less what he thinks, nor do I care to point out that GASP has one A - alignment and aim are the same traditionally. Or they use "PGA" as in "posture, grip, alignment." Oops. :P
Are they indeed! The archer aligns himself to the target and then aims. I'm sure most people with half a brain can understand the difference between the two. Oopsadaisies! :E P.S. Do you think it's fair to plaster TROLL all over my posts? As the forum moderator this seems a rather immature thing to do. -

I would have a four team event where they play a reverse scramble. I think this would be something out of the ordinary and I'm sure it would be very interesting for the spectators/viewers.

I consider playing concepts to be far more important than swing mechanics. I follow four concepts that cover every shot in the game and only work on refining the swing mechanics when these concepts have been fully adopted. However, the main fundamentals, GAASP - Grip, Alignment, Aim, Stance and Posture - must be adopted before attempting these concepts but swing refinement, IMO, should be tackled later. Concept 1) Involves cutting the grass using a downward action with the club's leading edge for Fairway/Through the green shots - using woods, hybrids, or irons. Concept 2) Tick-tock, a free flowing pendulum motion - PUTTING. (No brainer) Concept 3) Hammer and nail - Using an ink pad, print a large round nail on one side of the ball and pop it on the tee with the nail facing towards the face of the driver/hammer. When the nail is struck with the driver, the player can immediately see where he has struck it. This also encourages the player to endeavor only in the act of striking the nail and let the hammer's loft and dynamics do the work. Concept 4) Exploding long bread shaped chunks of sand out of the bunker, of course the ball sits in the middle and on top of these chunks. It always disappoints me when a player with aesthetically sound swing mechanics falls below his potentiel on the course because he doesn't adopt definite playing concepts.

Experimenting with the "Baseball" Grip
Patrick57 replied to stogiesnbogies's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I use a reverse overlap grip instead of the ten finger and this gets my hands more in sync. I was never comfortable with the other two grips - overlap or interlock - as I have always felt that my right hand must have more control. Whem I place the index finger of the left hand over the pinky of the right hand, I achieve this. -
Quick ball flight law question

So the face is open to the path. So, closed to target can cause a cut but closed to path can't. I would guess that Chuck Evans can count on one hand how many golfers who could hit a fade with face closed to path.
