  1. Concern yourself more with hitting the ball straight than hitting it far.
  2. Most of the posts are going to be made by people who don't get the joke. Judging by the fact there are only two pages of replies, I'd say the sarcasm is a bit unwarranted. However, golfers are not really known for their sense of humor. I can't remember the last time I heard a joke during a round that wasn't a reference to Caddyshack.
  3. Actually, hackers can be pretty successful at what they do, and probably succeed by their own measures in life... but we don't have to like what they do o.- If by "God" you mean "law enforcement" and by "in mysterious ways" you mean "by enforcing the law". But if you have historical examples to back up your theory on his impending retribution, I'd love to hear them.
  4. Advocating that the long ball is more important does not mean advocating that short game matters so little as to require minimal practice. Nice story, but it doesn't prove that short game is inherently more important...
  5. Have you seen his girlfriend? She's having hard time looking like she hit puberty too.
  6. Pay $40 immediately. Pay $39 once per month. Not necessarily at the end of a calendar month. Just like a phone contract, or a car payment, etc.
  7. The old man behind him holding his hands over his head almost has a heart attack in the process, hilarious
  8. You need to get out more
  9. That hardly sounds like golf. Or fun.
  10. Out of all the ways that lllllsp1d3rllll defiles the English language, you choose to correct him only for these two words?
  11. Just a large (1800+ students) public high school south of Denver. At least two of the players on the team were good enough to have a shot at winning the State championship. See below for the bigger reason why I didn't make the team. I think I missed a playoff by a single stroke.
  12. Bloody spectators, always mucking things up at the local muni
  13. False dichotomy thread is false. Also, what is the second biggest debate in golf?
  14. Woof. And that's coming from a guy with yellow fever.
  15. A backpack strap to carry my bag with (I never cart), an old towel from The Olympic Club, and an old watch. I'd rather not carry a lot of shit in my bag I don't need, it only makes it harder on my back.
  16. Oh, to answer your thread title - yes, it really is all about the long ball. Almost never hitting a high (3-6) iron on your approach to a par 4, and usually having a shot at eagle on every par 5 means scoring opportunities abound once you are a good enough golfer. You could be the best putter in the world but if you're never putting for eagle on a par 5 then you are basically never making eagle on par 5s. Now if you are an average golfer..... I would say the long ball is a much smaller part of your game.,
  17. I recently changed the way I gripped my driver and lost about 15 yards in the process. But I also lost about 15 yards of slice/hook too. Granted that still leaves me with drives over 300 yards, so I'm not really giving up the long ball, just the longer ball. What I haven't been able to do is stop overswinging. I tend to lose control if I don't overswing, so when I have to hit an iron light when stuck between clubs is where most of the large mistakes in my game come from (save those bloody three-putts). This could be attributed to not practicing enough, I'm not sure. Whatever makes the most significant improvement in your scores - go for it. For me that is chipping and cutting down on three-putts. For you, control seems to do the trick. Its not as if you have to give up the long ball forever, once your handicap plateaus you can always try to start hitting the ball longer again.
  18. I was never saying that it was otherwise. Well done taking my reply to his statement out of context!
  19. Jesus told him to do it. The guy is a whack job, attributing his own skill and focus to the flying spaghetti monster. He's already shown himself to be illogical, so why would you expect him to make the logical move here (play the Players)?
  20. Which course is that? (sorry for de-railing the thread)
  21. 1. Rory McIlroy -- 277 2. Heath Slocum -- 280 3. Charl Schwartzel -- 281
  22. Thank you, that's a big help. The club was on at least its third owner, one of them being my temperamental father... I'd be hesitant to put a pricey shaft on it. My driver has a GBB System 60 Firm Flex shaft, I hope to find something similar in flex since it has worked great for years. Do clubfitters usually charge to reshaft a single club? I don't take lessons or know any pros personally to do this... would I be best off visiting a pro at a golf club or visiting a retail outlet like Golfsmith or a PGA Tour Superstore?
  23. Howdy all, A few questions about getting a club re-shafted, since I've never had to before: Steel or graphite? How much should I expect to pay? Where should I get the club re-shafted? Golf course pro shop, Golfsmith, PGA Superstore...? For reference, the club is a Taylor Made Ti Bubble 2 3-wood (from way back in the 90s ), and the original shaft is a Bubble 2 Shaft S-90. Through some research, it seems this shaft was designed for swing speeds up to 90mph... my swing speed is certainly over 100, though I haven't had it tested in more than a few years. Which would probably explain why it broke in half finishing a swing. Many thanks
  24. 75 on an easy par 71 course. Best score of the year by far. http://www.oobgolf.com/golfers/score.php?id=1994362 (I played back to front) Highlight of the round on hole 16: 290 yards to the green from the fairway, I crush a 3 wood to within a yard of the green, shattering the shaft in the process, then nearly chipped in for eagle. The shaft was never firm enough anyway. Un-highlight of the round: double bogeying 17 and 18...
