Will it surprise you if I tell you a golfer uses more energy in a 5 hour round of golf than any baseball player will throughout a baseball game? strange but true.... so is golf still not a sport?

Im 18 mate, I wear things like CK 'in2u', Chanel 'platinum' or CK 'be' CK 'in2u' being the nicest.

By definition golf is a sport, as said earlier a sport is defined as an activity with set boundaries (rules) with a competitive nature and physical activity. Any one who says the golf swing is not physical is foolish. However the level of fitness required for golf only really becomes an issue at elite level, are you telling me the top 20 golfers in the world don't train like athletes? In my opinion it shows a certain level of ignorance to say golf is not a sport.

Never really thought this was necessary, surely cars would be visible enough during the day, unless of course there were visibility issues such as bad weather/low light? I suppose one safety tip I would give is to always be aware of what is happening around you, you must know what every child is doing at the side of the road, whether that car in the drive way 100 yards ahead is thinking of reversing out, basically anything that could be a hazard you must be aware of, this includes hazards behind and to the sides of your car, not just in front of.

In fairness I think the misunderstanding about Tigers irons comes from the fact they are forged by Endo (another Japanese forging company, similar to Miura) who also forge the rest of Nike's irons. This is my understanding of it anyway, I could be mistaken but im 99% sure Miura have nothing to do with Tiger.

I am aware of a study that went in to this, when I'm in the library this afternoon I will note down the name of the journal (If I can find it) so you can look it up .

Sounds pretty similar to my year... big fail for both of us lol. I have found out though through research in to psychology and relating it to golf I am far to ego orientated, which through hindsight makes it obvious why I struggled so much this year.

Working the ball..with the Putter??!!!
JaY_B replied to jonanthans's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I'd stay away from this, the most commonly accepted way to putt consistently is with a square face at impact, imparting the quickest and truest roll possible. 'Working' the ball with your putter will bring too many variables in to a putt, you want to worry about line and speed, nothing else. However if you ever find yourself bored during a practice session it would be something to try, just for a laugh. -
Out of interest, have any of you read any academia that looks in to this, looked up articles relating to the scientific research carried out regarding the effects of weight training on club head speed and distance? Some of the journals I have read suggest that weight training makes little to no difference to the distance the golfer hits the ball.

Are these any good?, Have never heard of them, apparantly they are an American company. Basically what sort of reviews are these putters getting as I can get hold of them and they look quite nice. Any opinions? Thanks, JaY_B

I suppose my trigger is just generally going through my routine, and repeating the same routine time and time again. My main problem in competition is confidence, I will get very nervous about where the balls going, and as a result put very poor swings on the ball where I try and steer the ball, through practise this is something I am trying to eliminate!.
-
Definitely want to improve consistency, the only problem with my ball flight is the amount it varies from shot to shot. Obviously I don't hit the ball far enough either, which I'm hoping is something I will grow in to (have always been a late developer size wise).

I have already ordered the Yes Callie Forged here and have managed to get it for trade price, brand new, woop woop.

I went backwards this year, back to the drawing board!.

This is about a month and a half in to golf college. What my faults are: Straight right leg at impact Wrists flick through impact, as a result of the straight right leg How I intend to fix this: Improving hip rotation on the back swing, you can probably see that my left hip almost moves towards the target on the backswing. Make sure through impact I focus on stopping the hands from flicking, the feeling is that I am trying to hit a fade, holding the face open through impact. Notes: I noticed that (although it was freezing cold when the videos were filmed) my set up seems almost 'cramped' with my shoulders very shut to the target, in my next practise session this is something I will pay particular attention too. Any comments/input will be greatly appreciated.

I would say a long course is anything above 6800 yards, given the weather we have in the UK at the moment, that feels like a longgg way.

Congrats buddy, next step is to break 70

My current set up: Nike Sasqautch tour Cleveland Hibore 15' (with Nike Sasqautch headcover) Nike Slingshot tour rescue wood Snake eyes 600B/C combo 3 - pw Nike SV Tour (black) 52' 60' Odyssey DFX 1100 putter (soon to be changed to a Nike Unitised putter). This is all in my limited edition Nike Extreme sport (black and yellow) bag, or my Nike cart bag when I have a trolley. As you can see I am becoming a bit of a Nike man myself.

As your developing as a golfer, your distance and consistency increases and as a result your confidence increases too. The distance looking shorter is probably a result of the increased sense of confidence in your own game.

I have read about a small study in to this which suggested that because of all the technology in driver heads now, they are actually starting to hit the ball straighter than your fairway woods.
-
Currently I am trying to start my downswing by turning my hips, this is because on video my arms were actually starting the downswing, and not the hips. Maybe try and get a video of your swing up and we can help you further?

You have to take a closer look at these horror stories to be honest. A lot of golfers go to these lessons expecting a quick fix, a one off lesson that will cure all their problems. Unfortunately it doesn't work this way as there will usually be too many things to work on to fit in to one lesson. The point of lessons is to steadily improve your golf game through persistence, hard work and regular lessons. Another thing is that you genuinely need to get on with your coach and agree with what the coach is teaching, a good coach will work around your swing and in what direction you want to swing (For example my new coach said to me in my first lesson "you look a bit left sided in your backswing, the question we have to ask is do you want to pursue this more stack and tilt method or do you want to go the more traditional route) This sort of willingness to work around the students wants and needs is vital to good coaching.

Driving Range Pro to Golf Course Idiot?
JaY_B replied to MCFung's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I have this problem to an extent, I play off plus 5 on the range, I have actually been asked a couple of times if I'm a pro. I think the key is to recognise your swing thoughts on the range and then trying to use the same swing thoughts on the course, when on the range you probably have 2 or less swing thoughts where as on the course there will most likely be numerous things going through your mind. Pick the best swing thought for you, and use that swing thought solely for the round and see if this helps.
