  1. I played my home course this morning. http://www.brooksvillecc.com A friend and I were first off the tee (always nice) and got around in just under 3 hours. I played well, missing birdie putts on the front side to shoot 36 and making par putts on the back to shoot 35.
  2. With family and work commitments, a lot of my rounds are spur of the moment so I'm usually out there by myself. On those occasions I'll play two balls per hole and record the higher ball as my score. I find it helps me to concentrate on each shot instead of rushing around playing speed golf.
  3. You definitely need to check out some hybrids. I carried a 2-iron until last year and probably hit 3 out of 10 shots pure with it, I hated the deuce but could not find a fairway wood replacement. They either ballooned too much and the shallow faces didn't offer enough margin for error. I got a 2-iron replacement hybrid and it's become one of my favorite clubs. I like it so much I replaced the 3-iron from my set with a matching #3 hybrid. I can hit the hybrids higher and 10 yards farther than the irons they replaced. When I need to hit the fairway on a short, tight par 4 I grab the #2 hybrid and rip it with confidence.
  4. Golf can get real expensive, real quick. I'd suggest staying with your starter set until you know for sure you're going to play golf regularly in the near future. 200+ yards with a #2 hybrid is a good distance for that club for any amatuer player.
  5. David Feherty, Samuel L. Jackson, Tiger
  6. 5-iron carry is 175 with a standard swing, 182ish when I stomp on it.
  7. If you carry a hybrid or 5-wood practice a putting stroke but using that club from the lie you described. The rounded sole will glide right through the grass and give you a higher margin for error than a bellied wedge or using the toe of a putter. Toughest shot for me is a downhill lie, I hate them. Yeah, I know hate is a strong word but it's appropriate.
  8. Anything over 7,000 yards feels like work to me instead of fun. I prefer to play the tees where the course yardage is between 6,700 to 7,000 yards.
