You definitely need to check out some hybrids. I carried a 2-iron until last year and probably hit 3 out of 10 shots pure with it, I hated the deuce but could not find a fairway wood replacement. They either ballooned too much and the shallow faces didn't offer enough margin for error. I got a 2-iron replacement hybrid and it's become one of my favorite clubs. I like it so much I replaced the 3-iron from my set with a matching #3 hybrid.
I can hit the hybrids higher and 10 yards farther than the irons they replaced. When I need to hit the fairway on a short, tight par 4 I grab the #2 hybrid and rip it with confidence.
