  1. Was that Rick Astley? I was pretty sure it was Prince, circa 1986, on Rymer's sweater. I'm liking this season so far...the personalities aren't as big, but the overall level of play seems to be up from the last few seasons. Aaron and Brenda are my favorites (gotta love her accent), but Brian really cracks me up.
  2. My son is 2 years old now and has been digging balls out of my bag for close to a year to smack around the house with his plastic clubs (sometimes he even holds the club with both hands ). He likes watching golf on TV too...every time a player hits ball (be it a putt, drive, or anything in between) he says "WOW! He hit the ball!" and looks at me to make sure I'm watching. I hope he stays interested as he gets older. I can't think of anything I'd rather do than play with him.
  3. Guess I'm alone on this, but I chose putter. I love the feel of any flush hit, but there's something about a perfectly struck Pro V1x (everything else feels either too mushy or too clicky for me) tracking along the line I envisioned. I can usually tell if I've holed it well before it goes in. My next choice would be the wedge, then short irons, etc. I think it's mostly mental...the shorter the club in my hand, the higher my expectations are for the shot and I get a greater sense of satisfaction when it comes off perfectly.
  4. That looks really cool. Let's hope Jack Nicklaus doesn't find out about it
  5. Avg. Score = 87.67 I've never been fitted, but every static fitting chart I've ever looked at places me as "standard" to + 1/2". My irons are standard specs for the Pi5's which is 1/2" longer than most oem standard length.
  6. I need to look that article up. I've played really well a couple of times after drinking an energy drink...I just assumed it was mental or a coincidence.
  7. For me, the simplest way to generate lag is to keep my arms connected and in sync with my body and initiate the downswing with my hips. I like to feel like my downswing is started by my left leg pulling my left shoulder down and through the ball. As long as the club is gripped correctly the wrists will naturally hinge on the backswing. The feeling that my left leg is pulling my left shoulder ensures that I do not unhinge my wrists too early and keeping my arms connected to my torso (glove under armpit drill) ensures that the clubhead does not get stuck on the downswing.
  8. Two reasons: 1) If you raise taxes on corporations and individuals who earn more than $150k (including many, many small businesses) they will simply pass the additional cost on to the consumer and look for ways to cut costs that could include downsizing their workforce and/or moving jobs to other countries. Neither of those results will help the economy. 2) Increasing the tax rate on higher earners is tantamount to punishing them for success and rewarding others for mediocrity. I see this all the time with my wife. She works at a state job as an accountant. Being a state job, there are limited opportunities for pay increases and bonuses and they are given out equally to all employees regardless of their job duties and how well they perform them. In addition to this no one is ever really punished for not performing their job duties. More often than not, the duties they are not performing (or can not perform due to ineptitude) are passed along to those who can and will do them. This can only go on for so long before the competent, hard-working employees grow tired of it and leave to find a more rewarding workplace or decide that since there is no benefit to performing a job well they will just do their jobs in a half-ass manner like everyone else and continue to receive the same incentives. Why is it you are undecided? I am curious as to how there can still be so many undecided voters at this point in this election. To me, these two candidates could not be more different. It's true that they both set up pretty much along their party lines and most Americans don't neccessarily fit squarely into one party, but at this point I would have thought we knew enough about these guys to know which one was closer to our personal ideals. I consider myself a Libertarian and don't support either party 100% to be sure, and neither candidate is who I voted for in the primary. But given the choice between two candidates on opposite ends of the political spectrum, it didn't take me long to determine which one's ideas were closer to my own. *EDIT* you responded to a similar question while I was typing this - please disregard.
  9. If you just want to hit the ball straight and looks are not a factor, then of course super game improvement irons could be a good thing. But, I would recommend checking out many different models. Since you are a 10 you probably don't have much trouble getting the ball into the air and slicing the ball o.b. and many sgi sets have large amounts of offset and upright lie angles to counter those common high-handicap flaws. I would look into some game improvement irons that featured a good amount of perimeter weighting with less offset...something like the Callaway X-20 Tour as opposed to the Big Bertha for example.
  10. There is a difference between paying for goods or services that one desires and using force (government) to take money from one person and dole it out to others who have less because it is deemed "fair". Sure, wealth is redistributed in both cases, but only one method promotes a truly healthy economy.
  11. For me, it's just a matter of my personality. I've never taken a lesson because I just prefer to work things out for myself. If I had taken a few lessons when I first started playing I am sure that I would have gotten better a good deal faster, but I wanted to carve out my swing on my own and develop a real understanding of the swing in the process. I accepted the fact that my scores would not drop as quickly and that the process would be frustrating at times. But, I admit that I am not the average golfer. I have the time to practice, 5 acres to practice on, and the will to figure it out for myself. I wouldn't recommend that most new golfers go about it the way I did. In fact, I would say the vast majority would be much better off if they at least got one or two lessons when they first started playing to learn proper setup fundamentals, etc. But, I also think that most people should take it upon themselves to understand their swings so that they can self-diagnose problems when they arise.
  12. Like iacas said, that's not exactly right. Rifle and Project X shafts are listed by their FCM, not CPM. I have no idea how to convert between the two, but FCM increases as CPM inreases. It is true that S300 shafts equate to about 5.75 FCM. That being said, I believe Project X shafts are not actually frequency matched like Rifles are. They list them 5.5, 6.0, or whatever, but if you were to put each shaft in the set on a frequency analyzer the CPM would vary according to which iron the shaft was specced for. So, as far as PX 5.5 playing like a 6.0, etc. I don't think it's really an apt comparison, but the stiffer butt section of the PX shafts causes them to feel stiffer than other shafts of the same CPM.
  13. Everardo (a certified Rifle clubfitter) explained the differences in this thread a while back.
  14. Did you try searching the forum? This topic has been discussed ad nauseum. I just did a search for forged vs cast and it came back with 108 threads (including one you started last month).
  15. Another big Titans fan here. I'm loving them being the only unbeaten team left, but I'm really looking forward to next Monday night. I like Peyton, but I hope he's flat on his back for most of that game.
  16. Yeah, $44 is a lot of money for a small piece of metal. But no one else thought of it first and he can obviously sell them at that price. I totally want one. Makes me wish I was still in college and had access to the machine shop.
  17. Interesting. The table was very accurate for me. Most of my stats were a little better than the average for 89 and a little worse than for the 85. The most glaring difference was fairways hit (which they designate as a weak relationship). My fairways hit is slightly better than for their average score of 79 - it's pretty clear that I need to stop wasting the opportunities I give myself when I hit a fairway, but I already knew that. The formulas are pretty accurate as well. My average score is 87.65 and when I used the formula based on par it predicted my score to be 88.5. The formula based on GIR predicted my average score to be 85.5. and/or you play more difficult courses than I do for the most part.
  18. Me too. The only way I could keep it straight in the last episode was to remember that the long drivers were wearing the headache-inducing matching green outfits. At the rate the quality of the golf is spiraling downward, just wait for Big Break 15: Executive Course Showdown That actually sounds really good to me. I'd definitely watch it. Especially if they could get some of the more famous instructors to compete. My money would be on Hank Haney (yep, I've totally bought into the 30 minute long weekly commercials for his junior golf school).
  19. Score: 87.65 Fairways: 62.39% GIR: 26.80% Total Putts/Round: 34.18 Putts per GIR: 2.12 Putts per missed GIR: 1.82
  20. I use my 2 hybrid to hit this shot all the time (as well as my 3w and any iron, depending on the clearance from the ground to the branches). I do one key thing differently from what anyone else has mentioned: I keep the ball in its regular position in my stance or even a little forward of that. This produces a good deal less backspin than moving the ball way back in your stance and beating down on it. Without the extra backspin the ball won't flare up as quickly and will roll out further than you may expect. I read this technique a long time ago somewhere on this forum (I think iacas posted it if anyone wants to search for it) and it has worked very well for me. Another benefit I have found from moving the ball up is that my most common miss is a topped shot...much better in this situation than shooting the ball up into a branch.
  21. I was looking at those yesterday on TGW. They look too pretty to hit. It would make me physically ill the first time I pounded one off the toe.
  22. If I understand correctly, the dispute between Jones and the bodyguard was alcohol-related and his return to the NFL was partially contingent upon him avoiding alcohol. So, in Pacman's case it was a disciplinary issue.
  23. The fact that the Cowboys felt the need to assign him a bodyguard is evidence enough that his football career isn't his top priority.
  24. I wouldn't mind seeing them get eliminated. Camila is ok, but Hugo irritated me with his comments about his missed putt in the head to head matchup: "It had perfect speed and was the perfect line..." Well, obviously not. It just struck me as a bit arrogant. So far I'm liking Haymes and Bernie the most. Of course, I'm a big fan of Brandt Snedeker so that could have something to do with it.
  25. No, and I would say his marketability is already pretty much in the tank. Nice to see another Titans fan in east TN - There aren't many of us. I went to college at MTSU and lived in the Murfreesboro area from 1999-2005. It never ceases to amaze me how different the sports culture is between middle and east TN. I throw up a little every time I see someone walking around here wearing a Colts jersey.
