Sharipova looked a little old and tired in her face, like she aged 10 years since the US Open. She also had a ton of unforced errors and dropped the 2nd set to young American Lauren Davis, but then her shrieking took over and she bageled her in the 3rd.

Very cool, a bear playing chicken. Although, it's good he turned first - bears that aren't afraid of humans can be very dangerous.

I also concentrate waaay more on the music in a song. And, I usually listen to the lyrics as another instrument(s), listening to the rhythm and sounds that the words make. I normally don't care what they are saying unless they are so powerful that they reach out and grab you, which is pretty rare for me.

Me too. I can't watch that stuff. As a society we are gradually returning to the mentality of entertainment consisting of watching guys with weapons kill each other (roman empire). What I can't understand is, in football such a big deal is made over concussions, but in this 'sport' a guy can get hammered on the skull repeatedly over and over? I don't get it.

I don't customize, but ever since I bought my first Tacoma x-cab 4x4 many years ago, I wondered how I ever got along without a truck. Now I just got a Silverado x-cab 4x4. It is the WT (work truck) trim, but with the blacked out package. . Because it's the work trim line, it doesn't have computer or radio controls on the steering wheel, the steering wheel is plastic, and the 4x4 shift is a manual lever on the floor, but it has the large V8 and things a guy wants like auto locking rear differential, low gearing for towing, and the blackout package comes with 20" black alloy rims. Wicked eye candy for $6K less than their LT trim package. It was the same price as used LT models with 20K mi.

Who is this Pez, and why does everyone seem to dislike him? Never even thought of that. You can always just go outside and fill a couple pots with snow and bring it in. My point is, what is so special about those 3 food items? Why not veggies, rice, and OJ? I have never stocked up in a panic, but if I did, I think I would go for steak, pasta, and red wine.

1. Late round tennis major men's single matches 2. Golf 3. Hockey (esp games w/ the original 6) 4. Yankees baseball I would put football in there, but I'm making a concerted effort to quit that ridiculous sport.

Here in the Mid-Atlantic, everyone is getting ready to get hammered. DC is forecast to get 24+". Every time a snow event happens, you inevitably hear the same thing all over the media. "Everyone is buying up milk, bread, and eggs." "Stores are running out of milk, bread, and eggs." My question is, why does snow induce everyone to start making french toast??? And why no maple syrup?

Yeah Gd, I was focusing on the 'best' part. No arguments, just debating 8-) The Baha Men? Edit - oh, them. I'm guessing you are being facetious? (Sometimes it's hard to tell these days)

Great stories! I too take in the natural world while playing, most often in the guise of bird encounters (we are all birders in my family, children too). - There is a very large extended family of crows on our bayside course. It is well known that crow families develop local vocal dialects. I don't know how this came about, but this family's most frequent call sounds exactly like "Nuh-uh" (as in, nope). And, of course, it seems they are always doing it while you are putting. So, as you line up a slippery 5 footer, all you hear all around you is, "Nuh-uh", "Nuh-uh". - This same family is also very skilled at food theft. I was playing with my step daughter, and two crows pulled an unopened candy bar from an open pocket of her bag, tore open the wrapper, and took off. She ran over and picked up the empty wrapper in disbelief.. - Some great sightings at my courses includes bald eagles, peregrine falcons, coopers/sharp shinned hawks, harriers, red-headed woodpeckers, and turkeys with a sh!tload of chicks. - My wife and I were paired with another couple, and after teeing off on #9 we all started walking, and just in front of the women's tee there was a big beautiful black rat snake. My wife was excited and wanted to pick it up (we used to own a pet black rat snake), but I said 'you're just going to scare it and it's going to pee all over you', so she just stood near it and admired it. It must have appreciated the thought, and because it moved forward very leisurely right across the tops of her shoes, and then off into the grass. I looked back at the other couple to say 'wasn't that cool?' and I saw the woman had her hand over her mouth and eyes wide in horror. She looked like she was going to cry.

I've been thinking of coming down to TX for an inexpensive vaca to bag a couple wild hogs. My 30-30 should be perfect..

You are correct. I know and love classical, jazz, blues, rock, metal, country, bluegrass, traditional/folk, and pop. Guess what I'm not that familiar with? Hiphop.

What, no guns? You're from Texas after all Welcome to TST JM!

I thought the topic is "The best lyricists". Conventionally, criteria for "the best" anything will normally include how widely known or pervasive, and how influential that person or thing is. I imagine that Bob Dylan is known in the mideast, just you don't run with that demographic.
-
I just don't see rap and hiphop reaching into the farthest corners of the globe and across as many segments of society (race, age, wealth, etc) like most of the grand masters mentioned here.

MLK Day Question - Where are the African American golfers?
dak4n6 replied to chspeed's topic in The Grill Room
When you are a kid, golf requires much more specialized equipment and a special place to play, unlike baseball, basketball, and football. Golf will never have the demographics and participation that the other big sports have, and I don't know why we expect it to. -
John Lennon, Bob Dylan, Irving Berlin, Jim Morrison, Carol King, James Taylor, Kurt Cobain, and.....Dr Dre??? Tupac?? Seriously???

The Older We Get, The Further We Used to Hit It
dak4n6 commented on bkuehn1952's blog entry in Random Golf Commentary
At 56, I'm quite comfortable with my game. I still hit a 3i well, about 200yd. I'm not really sure about how far I used to hit my Warbird or Burner Bubble drivers because there were no gps or lasers those days, all you could do was guesstimate from sprinkler heads, but I'm guessing 270 - 280 in my prime. Now, 250 - 260 is a nice drive. However, I am much much more satisfied with how I can control the ball today. Back then, if I hit a nasty pull hook, I wondered why that happened. Now, especially with the dissemination of ball flight laws, I know why certain bad shots happen and can then correct them. I no longer have any golf 'goals'. Sure, I would like to get better, but with family and other hobbies/addictions (see 'Addictions' thread), I know I have limitations. Now, I don't really hit the range much, and when I play, I just want to make good contact and hit good shots. If I am playing with some $$ on the line, I still have a decent chance of bringing some bacon home. Good enough for me... -
Wow, I wonder if there is a real correlation between golf, guns, and guitars. Add me to the list. I only have two axes (down from 6) and five guns but that is more than adequate. I also have kayaking, fishing, and cycling. Food and bills are obviously low priorities...

Holy Moses, Verdasco beat Rafa! I think that is his first time being knocked out in the first round of a major. I watched the first two sets and Fernando was playing tough. Oh no, they're showing Azarenka. I might have to watch basketball; I really can't take her shrieking.
-
Sigh...another creative genius gone. So true about Eagles songs being requisite for guitarists, although unlike many other easy to play songs, Frey songs sound great.
-
Watching Nadal v Verdasco now. Had to wait for the coverage banner saying it was live 2016 feed before I posted. So Verdasco is seeded so low that he is playing 1st round against a top seed? He is holding his own right now...

That ain't nothing. Y'all remember Mark Webe's infamous meltdown with the mic's recording? I actually just happened to be watching live at that very moment, and my jaw dropped. I couldn't figure out if I really just heard what I heard. Afterwards the PGA cleansed the entire internet of all copies, but it looks like they are making their way back... I think it is hilarious, but if it is over the top, mods please remove...
