Tired of People Hating on the 3-iron
dbornack replied to iacas's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Hell, I still carry a 1-iron! -
Great read. Thanks! It makes sense to me, as a technical person. Just not sure if it's worth it if I'm just a weekend player at this point in my life.

I used to be an equipment freak, but that was until about 5 years ago. I really haven't been paying attention to equipment, club building techniques, or anything like that. I was over at www.golfwrx.com , and they talk a lot about Spining or flowing of shafts, when they build your clubs. Does anyone here do this? Does anyone have an opinion about it?

Work. I make a decent living at what I do, and have worked hard for 8 years to get there.. it's such a tough decision to give all of that up and try to play again. First, I live in Chicago, so it would most likely take another move across the country like I did back in '03, so I can play year-round. Second, I'd like to find a buddy to go with me so we can push each other in workouts, practice sessions, etc. The problem with that, is my friend who would be perfect, is in the same position with his job. He just went out on his own as a financial planner, etc... But, we go out, and have beers, and when we start talking under the influence, we really sit there and plan it all out, and say "We should do it again while we're still young".. but, it just never happens. At this very moment, I'm contemplating getting my amateur status back or not. There are a lot of awesome amateur tournaments in Chicago.. so it's a tough decision. I guess my industry will always be there for me, if I ever need to come back to it.. I just have to become re-acustomed to living on very little means for a couple of years..

I haven't. I'm just getting back into the golf equipment game, and the last time I shopped for a bag, it was a plain and simple decision. The original Ping Hoofer. Yeah.. I'm still carrying my college bag, which was the Ping college bag from like 10 years ago.. with the wooden dowels inside for support.. :) Thanks for the suggestions guys..

I'm thinking Ogio.. not sure which model, but, I'm in the market for a new bag soon. Thanks!

Best clubs of all time!
dbornack replied to Cleveland Gunmetal's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I had a couple of those putters.. Forgot what it said on the bottom.. something like "Titleist: Scotty Cameron: Project C.L.N. Prototype no. 2" or something.. Those were nice.. -
But on the other hand, Tiger makes putts. Phil chokes. When has Tiger choked?

Thanks guys.. I'm going to post my pics from the 2006 PGA Championship soon too. I have to build the gallery first, though. Keep a look out for it.

Best clubs of all time!

Single best club, in my opinion.. Titleist 975D 9.5* w/ TT EI-70 Tour shaft! This was such a great driver back then.. -
Wedges: Cleveland CG versus Titleist Vokey
dbornack replied to La Costa Golfer's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I was being given equipment by Titleist at the time, and they looked good to me then. I had come off of the traditional Cleveland "rusty" wedges, and didn't mind the change, especially when the clubs were free.. but.. my opinion has changed about them 10* bounce as opposed to what? I think 10 on a 60* is a good amount, but I wouldn't go any higher, for myself anyway.. -
Wedges: Cleveland CG versus Titleist Vokey

I've had my Oil Can Vokeys for about 4-5 years now, and they're ok to me. My wedge game should be a lot better than it is, but I hit my Dad's CGs this summer, and they were AWESOME. I'm probably going to order a 54 and a 60 just like his this winter.. They set up a little nicer to me than my Vokeys... -
Any stories about being hit by a golf ball?
dbornack replied to questforscratch's topic in Golf Talk
That is freakin hilarious.. I have less patience than that.. I got hit into a handful of times, and I lost it on a par5 when I was waiting to hit my 2nd shot when the guy drove into me, and hit my cart off the 1st bounce.. well, I had my 2-iron out, and immediately hit a stinger back at the tee.. I know, really immature and dangerous (I was 22 at the time), and it went about 5 feet over his head.. he stopped hitting into us after that.. -
Cheap stuff - Tito's Expensive Stuff - Bellvidere or Pravda Instad of using a poll and forcing people into 6 or 7 choices, let's hear yours....

Depends a LOT on the tour. The gateway tour I played on in '03 had entry fees around $1200-1500, but the purses were in the 100k range.. 1st would usually come in around $25-30k..

Was about 9 or 10 years old, playing a Par-3 5-hole course that surrounds a driving range. As I'm walking off tthe green on the last hole, which is just over the right-side fence of the driving range, a ball drills me straight in the chest, and knocks me over.. I cried for a second, got up, and by this time, my grandpa was already by the people on the driving range screming about who had done it, and I picked up my clubs, my grandpas clubs, and my grandmas clubs, and walked up to the range shack. I was fine. But, they made me go to the hospital anyway for an xray. That was a good bonding time with my grandparents.. for some odd reason. -
If anyone is ever in Southern Wisconsin, and you like a light wheat beer.. try a beer called Spotted Cow. It's a micro-brew out of the Madison area.

I played on the Gateway Tour in PHX about 4 years back.. not sure if they've expanded to other states or not.. I think they were doing something in SoCal around 2004.. Did some Pepsi Tour stuff (they seemed very disorganized at running events), and some Dakota Tour stuff.. I'm itching to get back out and do it while I'm still young..

Anyone from Lake Nona or Isleworth here?
dbornack replied to dbornack's topic in Golf Courses and Architecture
Very cool.. I used to work with Gregor quite a bit.. every 3-6 months.. Did you like it there? -
Yeah.. I need to really work on objectifying my shots beforehand, but hey, it's a DSLR, just keep my finger down most of the time :)
-
Agreed.. I'm actually considering dumping my MP-33s for a little more forgiving set, like teh Nike's mentioned in this thread. I can go out and be capable of shooting a 67 any day of the week, but, since I don't play as often as I'd like to, I'd like to get any advantage I can, even if it means getting a cavity backed-blade..

I've been anywhere between 290-330 for the last 6 years. Depends on my swing style that I happen to be using at the time. When I'm swinging a little flatter, with alot of upper-body torque, I tend to hit the ball the furthest, but I hit it less accurately. Right now, I'm averaging about 300 carry, and I don't have a driver that fits me. (Using a Titleist 905S with a UST V2 Stiff shaft.. the head isn't for my kind of swing, and the shaft SUCKS for my swing)
