  1. Are you being serious? OP: This is someone who is either kidding or plain wrong. A PGA professional typically misses 6 greens in a round. Sometimes more sometimes less. That means there are typically 6 times they need to get up an down. If they don't have a good short game they won't play well. Look at Zach Johnson a couple weeks ago. He wasn't hitting the ball well on Saturday (I believe) but he still shot a decent round and was able to win because he has such a good short game. Plus if you develop a good short game you don't need to hit the green to make par. All you need to do is get it somewhere close and get up and down.
  2. I bet they will in the future to say it helps with trampoline effect and make people want to buy it.
  3. Titleist AP1, Callaway Razr, Nike VR, Ping G20 or G15. Any of those would be a great choice.
  4. I really don't think so.
  5. Yes. He's good enough to play at that level. The crap about playing in the NFL or allowing people to play from 2,000 yards is just a stupid argument. He's playing the exact same golf course he just can't walk in between shots. Yeah it might be a bit of help to not have to walk if it's hot or hilly but I think at the end of the day it all comes down to who shoots the lowest round.
  6. My current Pro V1 balls say "PIF" on them. I think my next one's will say "Carpe Diem" meaning seize the moment.
  7. It should. Even if it doesn't actually give you the smash factor as long as it tells you club head speed and ball speed you can figure it out yourself.
  8. I think you're just not hitting the ball solid enough with 'em. For me, right now, I'm seeing that even when I feel like I'm hitting the ball solid my smash factor is only about 1.44-1.46 (smash factor = ball speed / club head speed). I think tomorrow what I'm going to do is look into getting a driver shaft that is 44-44.5" that way I can maybe hit it on the sweet spot more consistently and get the smash factor up. Perhaps you should look into it as well. It could also be you're coming in too steep on the ball but too hard to tell without seeing you swing. ETA: Highest possible smash factor is 1.5
  9. If you're going to play clubs with today's "normal" loft I'd highly recommend 3, 4, and maybe even a 5 hybrid for a lot of players. They're just so much easier to hit. Especially out of the rough.
  10. How high do you hit the driver? It could be your launch angle and/or spin rates are not allowing you to get the most out of your driver.
  11. Thats the loft Titleist says it is. Guess I can't be 100% sure but I do know when I go from the standard A1 setting to D4 which adds .75* of loft I see an increase of about 10 yards.
  12. Yes. I wouldn't recommend taking full shots with any wedge though. It has so much loft when you take a full swing all it does is go up. With the amount of loft a 60 has it should only be used for 3/4 shots at the most IMHO.
  13. What I ended up doing after playing with a 64 for years and realizing I need a 4 iron in my bag instead of hitting half shots with my 3 hybrid is to bend my 60 to a 62. I'm really happy I did it. Just food for thought.
  14. Because they really are a better feeling iron.
  15. I remember my first day with a 60* wedge. Then I bought a 64 a couple years later.
  16. Played the front nine on the black course. About 3,500 from the tips with some winds really hurts me because I am a short hitter and today I decided to play like a 36 handicap. Shot a 47 with 1 bogey, 3 doubles, and 1 triple. Then I went to the range and worked with one of the pros. Went and played a different nine (easier but still not a walk in the park) and shot one over. I'll never understand this game!
  17. I love my Titleist D2. Don't necessarily be so quick to go to a less lofted driver. For me, with a club head speed of 100+MPH, a Titleist D2 10.5 set at 11.25* gives me optimum distance. If I set it at standard 10.5 I lose about 10 yards. If I set it at 12 or 9.75* I lose about 15 yards.
  18. I've only read a little bit. I liked what it had to say. Some like it. Others think it's bad for most golfers because Hogan fought a hook and most fight a slice.
  19. I think the AP1s would be a great choice for you. I don't really consider them to be super game improvement. The 712 series of irons IMHO is better than the 710 but if you're a 20 handicap I'm not sure you'll notice a huge difference.
  20. Nice review. I liked these irons a lot. I think if I hadn't gone with AP2s this would be my next choice.
  21. Everyone, including tour pros, could improve their swings.
  22. It's not so much about your club head speed as it is figuring out your ball speed and finding a driver/shaft combo that give you a high launch and low spin. I know someone with 110MPH club head speed who uses a 13.5* driver. And even with that much loft he's just under what is considered optimum launch angle.
  23. I saw no gain in distance personally. Any current driver you use is going to have a maximum smash factor of 1.5, period.
  24. I just realize that there's nothing you can do about the past so you need to move on and hit the next shot well.
  25. Generally yes. The big difference is with the driver you want to hit more up on the ball but still keep your hands in front of the club head at impact.
