  1. If you're on a budget, I just got a pair of Adidas Powerband Grind on sale at golfetail.com for $55. They're en route now, so I'll have to post more when they're actually in hand, but it's a pretty good deal (reg price $100)
  2. Tiger Woods -12 Bubba Watson -11 Sergio Garcia -10
  3. didn't know there was a master thread, just thought it would be a fun discussion
  4. This started in another thread, thought it may deserve its own place. Any scientific or subjective ponderings would be welcome. My personal experience is that forged heads have a better feel than cast. The difference is how they are made: Forged irons start as a block of metal and are basicly pressed into the right shape, Cast irons are liquid metal put into a mold (or cast) and cooled to make their shape. Thoughts?
  5. sound like great sticks, good luck!
  6. any comparison between the Q-star and the Bridgestone E5?
  7. Forged irons tend to be softer material, and have a better feel than cast irons as a general rule. If you're looking for a good players iron, IMO forged is the way to go.
  8. and a lot of the time, the fitting is free if you end up buying your clubs at the store, go for a fitting if you're serious!
  9. Yes, good post, you need to understand how swing path causes a slice before you can fix a slice. If you really want to fix it and not just a mid-round band-aid you have to change your swing path
  10. If you're looking for a forged players iron, you have to give Mizuno's a swing. I don't think the Ping i20 are forged. Callaway Xforged look nice, I like the look of the Adams CB irons too, kinda like the old cleveland black pearl irons.
  11. 73 (+1) in my club tournament last year, came with a lost ball that I still believe went into a gopher hole! So it still feels like a 71
  12. You won't be able to get a whole lot for $200, so if you're just starting out and like the looks of the Wilsons, I'd go there, and then later as you get more into the game you can upgrade. Only downside is if you're really tall or short or swing really fast they may not fit you very well.
  13. I guess I didn't look either, was just looking for mizuno posts, I've been thinking of some kind of split set for a while with the JPX pro's in the long irons and something a little more blade like in the short irons, maybe should have made it its own post.
  14. one drill I've tried to reduce slice is to put a tee or headcover or something just outside and just behind the ball and swing without hitting the headcover or tee to make sure you're coming from the inside.
  15. I have two putters, one I use and a backup in case the usual "gamer" needs to be put in time-out.
  16. Anyone have/tried the Adidas Greenstar Z golf shoes? Wondering if they are comfortable and how the grip is.
  17. A lot of the Adams sets with integrated hybrids will be good for a higher handicap player and they are reasonably priced, the Idea a7OS is last year's model and should be on sale, also the Cobra S3 from last year had high ratings
  18. your swing speed will most likely be used to determine the best shaft flex, also the kick or bend point of the shaft depending on the trajectory you are looking for, a shaft that bends lower or closer to the head will generally have a higher flight while a shaft that bends closer to the grip or a high kick point will launch the ball lower, the shaft is the engine for the club so it's important to be fit for the correct one for your swing.
  19. Never wear one, don't want the Michael Jackson glove tan line (one white hand), and like to be able to feel the club better.
  20. the TM R11 also has some heft to it and adjustability is nice to have too
  21. get fitted for the driver too, but you'll probably need an X-flex or at least S for the driver with a swing speed like that, try lots of different models and find out what works best for you, they all have different feel and weights, you probably won't like most of the new "lightweight" drivers because you already swing fast you don't need any help with that, maybe a titleist or nike VR would be worth trying?
  22. Practice is what makes us better, so buy the clubs that will get you the most excited to go out and use them and get better!
  23. I'm also about 6'3" and I have irons that are 3/4 inch over standard. You need to get fit by a pro to make sure what works best for you because of the difference in arm length, stance, etc.
  24. Rusty said it all well, getting fit will make more improvement than anything. Going to a local course for a demo day is also a great way to try out lots of different clubs to see what works best for you. New clubs is a big investment, so I'd recommend trying out lots of stuff before making a purchase, and hitting demo clubs all afternoon long is part of the fun!
  25. probably more important than new iron technology would be getting a proper fit for your game
