  1. I guess that was the answer I was looking for. Thanks to all and happy golfing!!
  2. I pretty much did my homework, and like you, I don't need all of the bells and whistles. Just numbers. I want my game to be as "thought free" as it possibly can. Thats why I walk 99% of the time too. But, if you download courses to the unit, aren't they yours even if you don't renew the subscription? I hate to sound cheap and I know the companies have to make a living too, but I find it difficult to pay a yearly fee for information that I have downloaded already. I do like the all of the units I have see in reviews, and your review was through. Thanks for the information. -Jeff
  3. I am in the market for a gps unit. Which one kinda seems irrevelant, since they all do pretty much the same thing. The question I have is, people talk about a "yearly subscription". What exactly does that mean? If I don't subscribe will I have to map my course by myself? If I do subscribe for just 1 year, do the courses I download belong to me forever? I see that some units hold 5 courses, some 10, and one has 22,000+ built in already (is this one even upgradeable?) I seem to be leaning toward the SG3, simply because of the "AA" battery option. Thanks in advance, Jeff
  4. From the website: "A Ben Hogan forged iron differs from any other irons because of its incredible performance, unparalleled feel, and jaw-dropping beauty. The 2006 edition of the Apex Irons lends an exciting new line-up of forged clubs for the discerning player. Ben Hogan irons are forged from soft carbon steel and chrome finished for an head-turning looks. All are available with a wide range of custom shafts." http://www.benhogan.com/products/irons/index.html#p1 I did dig a tad deeper, and all I could find is that they use "Apex" shafts. So, sorry for the too quick reply to your original question. If I had to guess, I would say that they are Dynamic Gold shafts. But that is purely a guess.
  5. It's funny that you mentioned that, I just installed Lamkin Dual Density torsion control grips on my Pings and wedges! And yes, it does make a difference. I have bigger hands, so "stock" grips tend to be a bit small for me. I just used 3 wraps of tape on each club, and what a difference new grips make.
  6. Hello all and welcome to the 2008 season!! I am currently playing Ping G2 iros, black dot std. length. Love the clubs, won't trade them for all the tea in China. I just bought a set of MacGregor MacTec M685 forged irons. I did the stupid thing by not hitting them first, but the price was unbeatable ($215, with s&h;, BRAND NEW with graphite stiff shafts) I am currently around a 15-17hdcp. I guess the question is, will I hurt my game with these clubs since I am used to the offset that the Pings have, and how big is the learning curve between a cast and a forged, very little offset club? I probably will not bring them on a course until mid season, I do want to get to the range and see how hard (or easy) they are to hit.
  7. I use my 64 strictly for sand or deep rough around the green. I just am not confident enough to "open up" my 56. I try in a practice bunker at the local range, but I just can't seem to get it right.
  8. Thank you all for taking the time to answer me. I will be checking out many models, and there is even a Golfsmith near me, so I will be "demo"ing clubs probably after the Holidays. I still would like to hear from at least 1 person who is using the Tour Edge Line. C'mon, I know your out there!!
  9. I am getting a new driver simply because I left the TaylorMade at my vacation home in Florida. I am in no rush to make a purchase, since I will not be playing golf until March-April (unless I hit the lottery and move to a warm climate ) Thanks for the input
  10. Simple, and it's (basically) free........... >6 hdcp :)
  11. PW CG10 52 588 56 Knight 64 for the bunkers and rough around the green. I feel like Phil with this club. Full swing, ball goes 30 yards, tops.
  12. I am in the market for a driver, and I am leaning toward the Titleist 907 d2. I am currently around a 24hdcp, and currently using a TaylorMade R540D, 9.5deg and a regular shaft. My swing speed is about 94-97mph, and I hit my drives on average 230-250yards, mostly straight or a slight push. I am 37 years old . I have not hit the Titelist as of yet, and before the suggestions start to come in (I hope) I am not fond of the way a "non traditional" driver head looks at address, like the Nike or the Cleveland. Any help would be appreciated. I would like to hear from golfers who use the Titleist or the Tour Edge brand. I have heard/read good things about the Tour Edge line and would like some input. -Jeff
  13. Well said!
  14. Walking is the only way.
  15. Played with a gentleman today, who hit the stick on a fly from about 205 with a 4i. Too bad the greens were frozen (literally) or the ball would have stayed on the green. He got up and down for bird. Best shot I have seen from a "hacker" all season. I do believe he shot somewhere around +3 for 18.
