  1. man that would be awesome. and he's right, every time i take a cart out i try to have as much fun as it as i am playing actual golf. take it to a whole new level with the ability to drive over a lake!
  2. wouldn't that kind of debunk the whole point of the handicap index?
  3. pretty much all the courses i play are about that same rating/slope from above, so here are my best 10 scores (unadjusted) for the last 16 rounds in range of best to worst: 88, 91, 91, 92, 92, 93, 95, 96, 96, 97 i was doing my own excel calc, but i plugged them into an online calculator as well just to check (and i put the other 6 scores in too) and they came out with the same index number.
  4. sounds to me like you're implying i am not calculating my handicap correctly
  5. yeah i guess my ideal approach distance is usually about 120y, but that's mostly because i have a big club gap going down from there.
  6. yeah that's a feat, how long was the par 5? i drove a 300y par 4 the other day and missed my eagle putt by 6". but it was cool to choke up a little on the driver and put the ball exactly pin high...it made me feel like i knew what i was doing!
  7. yeah i think you're right that more people play distances closer to that number than 7k. i guess the reason i play from longer tees is because i get to use the driver more (which i hit fantastically the other day), and at 6,250 i would probably be hitting 3w a lot. besides the last 2 holes (which i parred), i was hitting 8i-pw into most of the greens on the par 4s. the last 2 holes i hit 5i, 6i respectively, but both of those holes were also into the wind. the drives were 248/298 respectively on those holes. i think if i played from a closer tee i would be hitting the same iron into the green, but instead teeing off with a 3w. though i don't want to appear stubborn about the issue, i just feel like many of the courses i play would end up playing nearly the same at a shorter distance, sans driver. in fact on the course i played the other day, the longest par 4 at 6,200y tees is only 398y, which i probably would hit driver on. the next one up is 355y, which i probably would not hit driver on.
  8. i like to play evenings, which is always a weird time meal-wise. i try to eat a late lunch and then take protein bars with me, even though they are terrible and not much food, plus they're a mess when they melt. i'm not sure why i don't get something else...
  9. i was asking if it's odd that i do NOT swing the same swing with every club. i.e. as the other poster pointed out, with a 7i i should be getting 170ish and i get much less distance because i don't swing as hard. just wondering if that is odd that i practice this technique, and if i should work on firming up my iron shots to accomplish the expected distance with each club for my power.
  10. yeah, i don't know why i do it, i just feel like my consistency is higher with irons at slower swing speeds, but with the driver i can swing faster and get accurate results. i play i20 irons.
  11. I hear they have a course or two that's decent...
  12. I'm down. I play $2,650 a round though. Where should I book my flight to?
  13. I drive about 278 on average, according to GPS. Though so does Luke Donald'ish. But when it comes to a 7i, I feel a much easier swing and get about 155-160, which isn't awesome. Is it weird I swing easier with my irons and get less yardage?
  14. 88 on a 7,000y 72.8/128 (rating/slope) links course, darn wind was 36mph (i checked the weather, too)! i had to take my hat off for the whole round it blew off so many times the first couple of holes. 48 on the front nine, 40 on the back 9. i had about 8 3-putts. the greens are like 9,000 square feet on average, you could use a full shot lob wedge on some of those greens and still not be left with a makeable putt, so 3 putts aren't actually terrible on some holes. though i did drive a green on a par 4 and got an eagle putt within 9" for an easy birdie, that was my highlight of the round :)
  15. That's the best Mark St... Haha, my bad ;)
  16. Not sure what your expectations are, but we on this forum are only a small one millionth percentage of the population and even if your opinion changes us, that's not sufficient. I'm just telling you like it is, and never will a sporting event be a non-swearing venue, nor should you expect it to, regardless of what you belive is right. It is completely your decision as to what you expose your children to.
  17. Pretty much. You aren't out at the bars with your kids or playing poker with your buds and your kids at your side are you? There are certain things you just can't and shouldn't do with your children.
  18. just wanted to update a mildly old thread... played today on a course that was 7,002y rated 73.2/128. checked the weather 3 times while i played every now and then just to see how windy it was, because it felt to me like the windiest of conditions i had ever played with in my life. in fact on the opening 3 holes my hat flew off so many times i eventually took it off for good for the rest of the round. anyway, the times i looked the gusts read 33mph, 36mph, and then 36mph again as i was finishing. i laughed on hole 1 and thought wow what a stupid day to try and play, and really was just shooting to break 100. shot a 48 on the front nine and a 40 on the back 9 to card my best score ever, 88 ball striking is getting better. besides missing 3 short (less than 5') putts, i felt like i didn't throw many strokes away. there were several holes where i landed short of the green and it would roll off the other end due to the wind, so i really think it could have been very possible to hit even low 80s for me in more ideal conditions. usually per round i feel like i throw away about 8-10 shots. also finally got my handicap calc worked out, and it is 15.3 at the moment with 16 rounds in (that's the best 10 scores of my most recent 16, so it can only improve from here). so yes, it is completely and totally possible to have a handicap well under 20 by not breaking 90 too often.
  19. yes i'm saying that, though people cuss when they're sober, too...just better at the censoring skills in that state ;) and as others pointed out, they will hear swearing at school if nothing else. if you home school your kids then i guess really there is no answer that will satisfy you. no joke. if cussing were a two stroke penalty in the game of golf, i'd probably stop playing. in fact i kind of chuckled at TW's use of GD the other day because it wasn't a seriously pissed off reaction so much as a "you've got to be kidding me," and it's a phrase in which i use daily on the course in the same manner. as an adult i can empathize and laugh that one off.
  20. true, he was playing to win for sure. but no matter his intentions before that shot, he needed to regroup and could have likely saved the T2 or at least solo 3. he just couldn't regain that focus. quite honestly if it was me i probably would have hit the third ball in the water too i would have been so upset at that point.
  21. though really, how many children do you think are watching golf on TV? i had a guy do that to me at a world series game. i thought jeez, if you are that offended maybe you should have thought twice before taking a kid to a drinking event. he could have saved par and taken a tie for 2nd, more $$.
  22. hrmm, never thought of it from that angle but makes sense. several people said he choked earlier in the thread. i don't think that was a choke at all, it was probably his slightest mishit all day in terms of where it struck on the club. the angle was spot on. it's just unfortunate there was water there in front of the green; in fact if water wasn't there he would have still had a likely birdie. he had at least 7-8 other approach shots in the round that were far worse misses, though he was able to save par on them because they didn't end up quite as catastrophic a place as the water. i think all around he played well...unfortunately the turn of events on that hole made it look worse than it really was. though really even if he made the eagle, you have to assume TW was going to make the birdie anyway which wold have still put Fowler one behind. so even in a best case scenario i only think Fowler was going to finish in solo 2nd...T3 and +1 for the round is not that bad even with the triple.
  23. definitely. i play the 50c taylormades only on the dicey holes that are narrow and have lots of water where my chances of losing a ball is high. otherwise i play my Srixon XV.
  24. And that's all okay with me. But bashing me for acknowledging he may not be a good person is absolutely ridiculous.
  25. What does that even mean? All I am saying is that is very silly for someone on an Internet forum to be disappointed that another person on an Internet forum thinks less of a rich athlete because of their infidelities. Why do Tiger lovers stick up for him like they actally know him?
