I disagree, I need to read my putts before I hit them. So If I have a 30 footer and pull it 4 feet to left, I now have to read that putt and line it up while someone else on the green would already be ready to go because they had been reading their putt while I hit mine. Letting each person finish out would take way longer. And people do finish all the time when it's close.

I don't think 4 hours is a sign of it being too slow, that is about normal from what I have seen. Often times in the PGA the warnings come for players who are taking amazing amounts of time to hits shots, people like Kevin Na.However, ff you are competing on the PGA tour and trying to win over $1,000,000 then go ahead and pace a shot or two to the green. If you're a regular player in a regular round, then just hit the dang ball.

Pretty straight forward- what specific examples do you have when either you or people in your groups have caused damage to personal property like a car or a house, and how did you handle them when the owner wanted restitution? Did your insurance cover it? Did the course have an insurance policy? Park at your own risk type policy? Pay out of pocket? Lots of people say what would happen but I would like to know what actually happened in your situations. Sorry if this has been covered. By the way, If you just didn't say anything and ran don't post here.

I like to play fast because I am very busy. I play 9 holes rounds mostly, and do it in under 1.5 hours easy. If I am going to be stuck behind people and it will take over 2 hours, many times I have to just hit the range and chip and put instead so I can make my other obligations.

Yes they will help you in the long run. For the most part if you are great with your PW you can do of all the same things that a 56 can do. But as you really learn all of your wedges, you will get touch you just can't with your PW. Also there are a few times where I have short pitches to raised green and I love my 60 for soft shots. What kind did you get?

Oh okay makes sense about the HDCP. And that is impressive of his partner. Seems like he would have just been warned and penalized since that was his first time being caught.

How is it that a score of 167 has you in a tie for first without the use of handicaps? I play at a pretty mediocre course in Idaho and if free memberships and scottys were being given away and HDCP was not being used, the winning scores would be around 135-140. Do you limit the play to only people who are of a certain playing level thereby actually making it as if you were playing with handicaps? If not, I think I may come win a new R13 next year at your course.

I read your whole post and read it as "common "rules" I sometimes break" because that is kind of what everyone has posted. I was very confused but then realized those were the made up ones haha.

I hate when the old guy in front of my decides to count up his strokes and finish out his score card for the round while standing on the green.

So my mind works in strange ways, and today watching the US OPEN and thinking of course layout, I was wondering if anyone has ever seen a green where it was set up so the player would purposely hit over and then played the next shot back. I thought it would be kinda cool to have a 420 yard par 5 with a steep green sloping away, so the second shot would be played over the entire green for a short pitch back up. Do some golf course design rules try and prevent this? Is it know to be faux pas and never done? Would you think it was cool or gimmicky?

I have a very similar question and it just came up at my tournament friday. There is a par three at my course where you play over water. If you pull it a bit left it can go into tall weeds that line the far side of the hazard, or it could possibly be over and in short grass. There are only two possibilities- either it will be in play and findable because the grass is short, or it will be virtually certain to be in the hazard. The only drop is back on the tee box. Anyone know any way of preventing the need to walk 200 yards around the pond and check for the ball first? Against the rules we all agreed to allow a player in our group to hit provisional because it's a very casual tournament and didn't feel like waiting.

I play by myself very often and try to play 9 holes in about 70 minutes when the course is open. When I do this I don't pull the flags and putt and go, I don't penalize myself. I sometimes will hit a couple balls from a certain yardage to practice if I am being held up. There are some holes on my course where it will either be in play and easy to find or 100% in the hazard and the drop would be back on the tee box, but I can't tell until I get there because it's blind, I take provisionals on these. I have taken free drops from some crazy GUR spots on my course. My course never marks it so unless it is for a tournament. They honestly will sometimes dig a 2 foot hole to fix some drainage stuff and not mark. My course just opened a new 9 and some of the rough areas are a just a bed of rocks. In my practice rounds I do not hit off rocks. For that matter I also won't play off the cart path in practice rounds when there is playable point of relief. I enforce most rules that affect scoring in my tournaments. A person moved behind me in putting stroke and I just let him know about the rule.

With the way I've been striking the ball lately, the only club I don't hate is the one that doesn't leave my bag during the round.

Best and cheapest is all relative as used balls are rated differently. I always check eBay, I find that has the best prices and with PayPal they have protect the buyer very well.

Most etiquette is around the green IMO, and that is where people can get upset. For me it has just been about common sense and observation. Stay away from your opponent and the hole when they are putting, ask before taking out the pin, be quiet, etc. Things like grounding the club, order of play, and where to drop are the actual rules. Most regular golfers have big egos, so I would just start the round by letting them know you want to learn the rules a bit better and if they could help. They should be happy to show off their knowledge. (sadly they will probably be wrong sometimes, so often I've seen line of flight drops)

Seems like a strange rule. I mean if it might be lost outside of the hazard it doesn't take too long to hit a provisional.

What is a short 200 yard par 3?

Was it a casual round? If so, just move your ball and hit it, no penalty. No big deal and done. You already breaking the rules so trying to "fix" them by adding strokes won't work. In a tournament situation you need to follow the rules and make the argument, but for a casual round just respect the employee and don't worry about it.

Did he post a higher score than normal after you guys helped him out so much?

The lines in and of themselves don't mean anything. What you would do with them would be to mark different things in your swing and then compare your body/hand/club/head position in relation to the lines, IE - the take away vs the downswing, your swing vs another persons swing, your swing vs your own different swing etc. Knowing what is correct and incorrect when the lines have been placed is the difficult part, and that is where I would follow iacas suggestion.

Ya I think it's a bit crazy. Also I would allow shots in the fairway to be moved out of divots or repaired or something too. Sucks to be punished for a perfect shot.

Kapanda I think you maybe don't know what a sport is? A sport isn't defined by how physically demanding the activity is. Is helping someone move a sport? Being a gardner/farmer? Those things make you extremely tired and are very physically demanding, but are not sports. A sport is simply using a variety of physical skills in competition for enjoyment. Not only is golf an undisputed sport, it is also the most difficult. Golf is the only sport I can think of where someone brand new to it literally can not play it.

Are you making this up? I really have trouble believing that. If it is true, the only possibly explanation is that the guy is genuinely retarded. You'd have to be a rainman type to even be able to pace that distance off more correctly than a yardage stake, and rainman was retarded.
