I wanted to know if I was on the right track as i've been working on 2 specific swing moves in my backswing and downswing to try and play more consistently. The three things i've been working on are as follows: Backswing - Focusing on opening up my right hip more Downswing - Feeling like my right arm is coming straight down (elbow towards my right hip) - Feeling like i'm coming more inside to out (especially with the driver as i've consistently fought a slice off the tee) Yesterday was my first day at the range due to winter, and I could tell that this was working well with my irons (hit about 30 balls each with my 6 iron and 9 iron solidly). When I moved to the driver, I only sliced once but I was hitting everything solidly as well...problem was I was hitting it left. I'm not sure this is ball position or if my hips are clearing too much, but my drives were just pulled left. Wanted some input to see if I was on the right track or if there was another tip I could use to really get square at impact. Thanks...

Anyone got any reviews or feedback on the Black Widow line of grips? I like the look, but just want to know how they feel and perform. Thanks in advance...

Anyone got any good tips on how to hold the hinge longer on the downswing? I like many have been battling this for so long and I know its a matter feeling like i'm dropping my hands (down) on the downswing instead of feeling like i'm swinging in a circular motion. I've made some progress, but recently took a big step backwards. Any helps/tips would be appreciated...

I recently regripped my clubs because I needed a more tacky feel due to control issues and my hands feeling they were being ripped up with a tour velvet grip from Golf Pride. Im taking a big gamble as I regripped all the clubs with the Golf Pride Tour Wrap 2G. In debating between black and white, I decided to go with all based on a theory that I tend to focus, at times, on my hands so I wanted to kinda blend my glove with the grip so everything to eye looks like its one solid color. I know its completely mental, but its kind of a theory im working with. Anyone have a take on this? ,

I was paying attention and what stood out the most was his driving looked solid. I could have sworn that one of the commentators said that Sean Foley had him shorten his swing on the driver and that was resulting in the better shots with the driver on Sunday. If he can drive consistently, then the field will start to resemble a Tiger and rest look again. Two out of four rounds is an improvement, but I think he's still at least a month out, if not two...

Wife just bought me a Nike Method Core and so far so good after 2 weeks of use. Only been practicing with it, but so far I definitely notice a difference off the face and control. I think i've finally found a putter I'll be happy with after years of tinkering...

So my confusion just hit an old time high in regards to the grip. I've gone from a strong grip to nuetral grip and found more consistency, but in watching the some Golf Channel programs (12 Lesson series), i became confused. The latest episode featured Jack Nicklaus and the first question he was asked was what was the foundation of the golf swing and he said it was the grip. The question of the holding it in the fingers or the palm came up and he stated that he always held it in the palm, and how do you argue with that from the greatest? I've always been told (and read in countless magazines) to hold the grip in the fingers, but i'm thinking of moving to the palm (i've been practicing at home for the last two weeks holding it more in the palm but have yet to see how it translates to when you put a little annoying white ball in the way). Wanted to get people's opinions and thoughts...

So, I made what I consider to be a major breakthrough in consistency and accuracy this past week and have taken it from the range several times to the greens. I use to be slice like crazy and just had no confidence in where my ball would go, but I did two key things that I had to force myself to accept and commit to even though it felt odd, but the pay off its generating has boosted my confidence greatly. The two things I did were as follows: 1.) Turn my right hand (trailing) towards the target, as it used to be towards the sky (open) 2.) Upon take away, I turn my hands to open the club face a bit quicker, as my hands naturally turn back to their original position at impact more consistently I've found that with this its much easier to predict where my shot is going and I was finally able to work the ball in a draw or fade as I wanted. Im wondering is this a common thing that most golfers already knew and im just stumbling upon, now into my 5th year of playing?

Yes, do what I did and give your current clubs to your wife and get yourself a new set (tada, two birds with one stone!). I had a set of Taylormade R7's and she loved the way they felt, so I went with her to golf store to them measured up for her, and to my luck, nothing had to change on the clubs (helps that she's 5'10" to my 6'2" frame). She took those irons and I got myself fitted for new ones. Problem solved!!! :)

I'm wanting to know if anyone on this forum has played Cog Hill's Dubsdread and advice/strategy on how to attack the course? Im playing this weekend as part of a birthday package and have been practicing non-stop for the last several days. I just wanted to know if anyone had any suggestions before this weekend comes around...

I was going back and forth based on users reviews of the Bridgestone e7 balls and was weary on picking up a box, but did because I had nothing to lose and they were on sale. I played a round of 9 holes this past weekend and shot a 44 (should have been a 42 but I lipped out two three foot par putts. The balls performed better then I thought. Allthough they didnt spin a great deal as much as other balls im used to (Taylormade TP Black), I felt they had a great feel, much more straight due to less spin, predictable in distance ranges. When it came to around the greens, since I knew they didnt spin as much, I used a higher lofted club and let them roll out. Since im not a professional and worried too much about truly controlling my spin as my game is not there yet, I think the balls performed great. Im going to see how they perform the next time out (in hopes I continue not to slice), but if they perform the same, then ill probably switch to these balls permanently moving forward...

Nike VR Str8 Fit Tour Driver shaft broke at
mutadayen replied to boilermaker711's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Wow, talk about ironic. The same thing happened to my VR shaft in the exact same position on the shaft (3 inch long crack from the hosel). I didnt purchase it from Golfsmith and was ready to drop down a good sum on a new shaft, but they said I could have a new shaft today and would be charged or they'd send it back to Nike on my behalf to get it fixed/replaced by them. So be it, I had it sent back to Nike and am now awaiting its return. Very odd, but brings up a slight cause for concern knowing this happened to someone else too... -
Honestly, I had your same problem and came up with my own conclusion thru trial and error, and turning my body to a more open stance than parallel with the ball while keeping the club face square to the target. Theres this illusion that comes about that appears the ball is towards my back foot, but its not. Its just my body is angled. My best description is that with my gap wedge, my body is roughly 25 degrees open from parallel (again, with ball looking like its near my back foot), while my 3 iron (yes, I can finally hit off the deck using this technique with confidence) im somewhere in the range of 5-10 degrees open (just an educated guess). Ive found that i'm a great deal more consistent and accurate, and hit down on the ball with all my shots, so much so that with shorter irons (7/8 thru all my wedges) im taking out tour like divots. That just happens to work for me. I hit down on the ball without losing any distance as some might figure I do...

TM Kia Ma Imola vs. Bettinardi BC2
mutadayen replied to ALeeBarbs's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I can only speak on experience, but I went from a Nike iC putter and an Odyssey 2-Ball putter to the BC2 and have never looked back. I made the change about 1 month ago and I couldn't be happier. The putter has an easy roll and I can honestly say oozes confidence standing above the ball. I know from any distance that im going to be close. Its not psychological thing at all, but simply confidence because you really do pick up a feel of the putter, ball, and green alot easier. I can now pick a line and be confident that ill hit my line and measure my distance just about right. I've only three put once since i've gotten the putter in 4 rounds of golf. As you can tell, i'm 100% behind this putter. I think it's fantastic. From $250 to $99, it's beyond a steal... -
I love the Nike VR Driver. Though its $400 (US), I picked it up for $200 (US) at a golf show (and checked with Nike Golf on the serial and it was legit). The adjustability factor is fantastic and once you get use to the sound, its a great club. Adjust on the fly on range before a round, and you're golden. Its also much more forgiving than what the golf magazines say. I would definitely recommend this club to everyone...

My average is legitimate 270-280 yards on my swings. I no longer care for to even attempt 300+ yards anymore. I'd rather keep it in play and find my suite spot with an iron then play a god awful lie. Plus, when you look at the PGA Tour official stats, only 6 players average 300 yards plus ( http://www.pgatour.com/r/stats/info/xm.html?101 ). My handicap is much higher because of last years play, but because I no longer worry about distance, I have lowered my handicap a full 7+ points this year and am looking to bring it down lower by years end. 300 is nice...but not important

I bought his Nike VR endorsed irons, so my answer is an obvious yes. To be honest with you, its not a surprising thing given how today's athlete's act anyways. I was actually more surprised the number was lower than it actually was. He's the greatest golfer of our generation, not the greatest man. I think people got the two confused. I'm still a Tiger fan at the end of the day. His actual stripes were different off the greens than what his image was portrayed as, but you at least have to hope that his stripes on the greens always remain the same. That's why we're all enamored with him...

It struck me the other day on whether there is an "added advantage" of playing one set of clubs over the others. I know the big retailers throw out terms like highest MOI, furthest distance, most forgiving, etc etc etc. But is there really that big of a difference between 3 woods, irons (yes, i know there are different sets like players irons, game improvement, etc), drivers (again, differences in movable weight, adjustable face, etc). So my question is pretty simple...why are you playing the set of clubs youre playing? Im interested to see the answers. Where you influenced by an endorsement? Was it a steal of the century? Are they hand me downs? Did you buy them because of looks? I'm just interested to hear the differences... For me, it was combination of looks and feel. My irons felt the cleanest when I hit them, but I love they way they looked...

R9 Super Tri ; Too much hype?
mutadayen replied to whitetiger94's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
IMHO, I've owned the TM SuperQuad from 3 years back, and outside of the option to open/close the face, my SuperQuad felt better. I was looking for a new driver this year and looked at the Cobra, Nike, and TM as those three looked like three winners. Out of the three, the TM surprisingly felt the worst. To me it just felt light and flimsy. The Cobra felt as good as the Nike, but when it came down it, I liked the fact that you weren't set to choose between only three face angles (open, closed, straight). The Nike adjusted every .25 degrees and I liked that more than the others. Plus, when you find it at a golf show for $200 (the others were roughly in the same range but a bit higher), it helps you pull the trigger more easily. -
I've read the specs between the two balls, in that one is a 3 piece (Tour D) and the other is a 4 piece (Tour). I'm interested in trying out either ball this weekend, and just wanted some feedback if anyone has tried either. Im a big fan of the TaylorMade TP Black ball, which I know is a direct comparison to the Tour D (from what i've read). Any insight would be helpful...

Driver loft size...difference between 8.5* - 11.5*
mutadayen replied to cigarsmoke23's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I cant speak for launch angles and all other things, but I disagree that a higher degree driver will go further than a lower degree driver. I went from a 10 degree driver several years back to a 9.5 the last two years (with a stiff shaft), to an 8.5 degree with an x-stiff shaft this year and my ball flight is still high and I average roughly 275 yards, which was the same as my 9.5 degree. The main difference with my driver is that I actually feel I can control it more now and hit more predictable shots. Im not sure if its the head, the shaft, or a combination, but its working for me. I'd stick with the suggestion of getting fitted for your style and getting whatever combo you feel comfortable with. And on a personal note, I dont find an 8.5 degree driver harder to hit at all. A lot of people said it would be, but im finding the complete opposite. Find what suits you and stick with it... -
legitimate strategy to break 100?
mutadayen replied to kilbyman's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Not insulted at all. The only club in my bag that I didn't get fitted for me is driver and I'm currently looking for a new shaft for it by testing out different models at golfsmith that will work with the vr. In regards to the irons, I actually was going to get all blades but instead got fitted for the split cavity muscle backs (3-5 irons) because they were more forgiving. I don't have issues with the blades from 6 on down and actually find them relatively easy to hit. I've gotten very use to the thin top line an no offset look of blades that when I pick up more forgiving irons, like any game improvement ones, I'm down right horrible with them. To my point, I got fitted and had these irons custom built for my swing as I spent three weeks testing out all clubs from all vendors and I preferred the combo set of split cavity muscle backs and blades the vr line offered. The driver, in all honesty, I got for half off from a golf show so I knew that the x stiff was too hard but getting a replacement shaft would still cost less then buying it new from a golf store. So I'm with you on that and that will be a work in progress to get the right shaft for me. The long irons, whn I even had the r7 draw irons which are game improvement irons, were hard for me to hit (3&4). 5 has always been a mix but I'm more consistent especially after lessons. But as we all know, golf is an evolving game. In time I'll figure it out... -
legitimate strategy to break 100?
mutadayen replied to kilbyman's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Make a mental note that just because you have a club in your bag doesnt mean you have to use it. My worst clubs by far the driver, 3 iron, and 4 iron. My strengths are the 3 wood, and 6 iron on down, so this past weekend I played a little mental game with myself. The front 9 I used my driver on the par 4's and 5's, and that was en route to losing 7 balls and amassing a high score of 52 on the front 9. On the back 9, I put away the driver and stuck with the 3 wood on par 4's and 5's, and shot a 44 with 2 lost balls only (still not good, but a huge improvement). From this point moving forward, until I ever feel comfortable with my driver, I dont plan on using it. I'm going to the range to work and gain confidence with it, but my mindset is to do that next weekend when im out playing a round. Try eliminating your problem clubs for now and stick with what works for you. So a friend might put it out there 270 yards and you only get it out there 220 or so. At least your second shot is in the clear and you have a much better chance than say hitting from under trees... -
I also just picked up this putter from Golfsmith and I echo his sentiments. I finally was able to practice with it outside and not on artificial turf within the store and it's a pretty sweet feeling putter. It really does feel like there's a soft inset in the middle, even though its milled and one piece. I tried it last year and liked it, but like you, didnt really feel like spending $250 on a putter. Now that it was $99, I was willing to take a look at it again, and i'm not dissapointed. I've included a review that I found online at the following address: http://www.putterzone.com/2009/03/mi...er-review.html Happy hunting and I hope you pick a putter to your liking...
