  2. If your losing most of your strokes with your short game than i dont think you should get new clubs. And you say you strike the ball well anyway so clearly your irons arent the problem. Short game is where its at. Practice practice practice. If you have an unfamiliar lie put the wedge away and hit a 8 iron or something similar and run it up there. Much easier to make solid contact on a crappy ass lie with an iron over a wedge. So you own r9's but are looking at the i20s? Correct? Also on the par 5's you say your long iron or wood is never enough to get you there. Since your having trouble with your chipping id just lay up and give yourself a full 8/9 iron into the green.
  3. Its the same thing when someone calls a sand wedge a sand iron.
  4. Weather is beyond a joke now. Longest wettest winter in i dont know how long. Casual water on every hole. 9,18,10 and 1 all had temporary tees because the fairways were ruined and it was preferred lies and you had the option to tee it up. Needless to say it was a non handicapped event. I had some self respect though and didnt tee it up on the fairway, preferred lies is bad enough. Ended up shooting +8. Poor front nine but then driver started working on the back and i got on the par train. Only 3 weeks until spring!
  5. I usually stop by on the way home from work and hit a medium or large bucket. Just hitting each club in the bag, picking a spot with each club and trying to land 5 or so balls around that spot. 30mins to an hour. On weekends when i have more time i could stay there all day...then play golf after that...then go home and practice swing inside while browsing the sand trap
  6. Well i just thought if hes having trouble maybe try and start with taking the club back on the correct line (although i dont actually no if he is or isnt as i havent seen a video) he might have a better chance of making better contact. I didnt mean to offend him in anyway by saying hes a beginner that slices, i still hit the occasional cut, just trying to help out a fellow golfer
  7. No. Chances are you wont just start hitting it ok. You have to invest time and money into it. You can study up on the internet, film your swing and then analyze it and make changes that way. Or spend the money and get a pro to do it for you. As a beginner you probably slice the ball meaning you probably have an out to in swing path so the main thing id work on if i were you is making sure your swing path is slightly inside the line. What ive done in the past is swing back and stop when your club is parallel to your hips. If your club is pointing left your backswing is outside the line and you will slice. If its straight you will hit it straight. If its right you will hit a draw. That is if your doing everything else right haha. But its a start.
  8. Just not as consistent as id like but i do have high standards so im probably overreacting. Accuracy wise im pretty solid. My misses usually come off the bottom of the club face and low but generally go straight so i get away with them. And ive put a tonne of practice into my short game so if i hit a bad drive im still confident i can make par.
  9. Having the correct wrist hinge in your takeaway should tuck your right elbow in automatically.
  10. DirtCheap, its not hard to hit a provisional ball though.. If you cant find it you play your provisional. Now if only people would actually do this!
  11. My course is so wet and muddy they have no choice to have the 6" mark clean and place rule in winter. I dont think a ball with a 10kg of mud stuck to it is going to fly well... In saying that the course is pretty badly maintained, enough for me to change to a different home course
  12. Fixed it haha. Ironed out a few flaws at the range tonight and started hitting solid balls again. I think it was just one of those things that happens when im always on the net looking for anything to help my game and i just had a few two many swing thoughts going with the driver. Just went back to a few basics and trusted my swing. Its gotten me this far
  13. So ive been practicing alot lately hitting all my clubs pretty solidly at the range, working on a few things that ive learnt from this forum. Ive never been fantastic with the driver i usually just try and hit the fairway. But recently it seems like i have zero control with it. I was mucking around today with ball position and i was hitting cut after cut so i experimented and put the ball in the middle of my stance like an iron and i hit it dead straight. I know this is wrong but its the only way i can hit it straight at the moment. I was trying to figure out why this was the case, the only thing i can come up with is that somehow the low point in my swing is back in the middle of my stance instead of left heel. Correct?
  14. My membership is about to run out at my home course. Its currently in average condition, very wet under foot, the course just doesnt get looked after well enough. Theres only two staff that work on the course and some volunteers every now and then. The thing is its only $500 Australian dollars and 5 mins from my house. Ive been thinking about joining a new club and ive narrowed it down to two and i would like to know what you guys think The first one Rosebud Country Club im leaning to a little more. Just purely because its a 15 min drive from work. Ive played it once or twice but not recently. http://www.rosebudcountryclub.com.au/layouts/mp_standard/Template.aspx?page=home The second one The Dunes is an awesome course and suprisingly cheaper than Rosebud but its a 25 min drive from work. http://www.thedunes.com.au/welcome/index.mhtml Thoughts?
  15. So had the lesson last night. My instructor was a pretty cool dude, nice and approachable, friendly guy. He gave me a couple of things to work on. Slight tweakage of the grip, relax my right elbow a bit more at setup and to straighten my right foot up at setup aswell. Felt a bit weird at first last night but i hit some solid balls after a while. Then went to the range tonight and hit a bucket. I noticed last night and tonight with my new grip i started to get sore in the hands after 15 - 20 balls so i switched to the overlap grip. In the past the overlap has felt terrible but now with a slightly different grip it actually fells better than the interlock grip. Went on to hit some pretty nice balls, still feels a little strange at address but i know it will get easier once i hit a few thousand balls... Gonna keep working at the range all this week after work and play on the weekend then book in again for another lesson.
  16. Jealous would be an understatement. Congrats dude and good luck!
  17. Gonna step up the practice routine a little more and start working with a pro once every three weeks. Starting tomoro at 4pm. Im excited
  18. 75 +3. Putted really well. Got the cap from 6.2 to 5.6! Getting there!
  19. Yep must have been bad balls. Its like tonight when i was at the range i was hitting some solid drives about 240m then 2 or 3 carried about 150m. Has to be the balls
  20. Im playing the 3 wood, 16deg, 60g regular shaft, mid kick point. You cant miss it, it has a bright yellow grip I hit the club pretty well but i just get dont get the penetrating flight with it. All my other clubs i get a nice ball flight and distance but this club just doesnt seem have much. At the range tonight i was hitting my taylormade 5w the exact same distance as my 3w. The 5w has a reg shaft. I think its 65g. Was thinking about reshafting maybe? What do you guys think? Anyone else playing this club?
  21. Went back to the range tonight and worked on the shoulder turn and knee flex. Once i hit a few balls and got a bit more comfortable with the turn i started hitting some really nice shots. And consistent to. Alot of balls landing right near each other which was nice. I think the knee flex really helps me not make the slight OTT move so i have been hitting a nice penetrating straight shot the last two range sessions. A few tonight had a draw but the wind was right to left so i am not really thinking much of it. Hopefully i can have a few more range sessions after work this week and shoot some low scores on the weekend and get the cap down! :)
  22. Out to in with a slightly closed face that matches your out to in path i believe
  23. A quick watch and ive come to the conclusion that your swing is awesome.
  24. Depends what you wanna do there? Groundstaff? Proshop?
  25. Went to the range tonight and starting working on the shoulder turn and the knee flex. Shoulder turn was hard to get comfortable with. But the knee flex felt really good. Just felt like it delayed the hips a touch and impact and was finishing position was at the target not open thus eliminating the pull fade. 90% of the time. Ill keep working on it.
