  1. I hear you on this! I got to the first tee yesterday and there were two other singles waiting to tee off. An older guy asked myself and the other single if we wanted to form a threesome and we all agreed. I agreed mostly because I didn't want to come across as a jerk and figured it'd also keep the pace of play better for everyone else. But inside I was somewhat scared because I am a newbie and didn't want to be hacking along with a couple of better golfers. Turns out I was somewhat right. The older guy ended up being a 2 handicap and obviously played really well. I didn't play horribly bad but I always felt like he was staring me down trying to speed me up. It effected my game a lot more than I want to admit but it was a good learning experience.
  2. Hello all, I have been playing just over 2 months now and have improved quite a bit since my first time out. Ball striking is somewhat consistent and my over all game is probably about where I should be with as much time as I've been playing... The #1 problem I feel I have is mentally being unsure of my shots. I align myself and set up with confidence; ready to hit the ball where it needs to be hit. However, as soon as I start my backswing I start to doubt myself. It seems like in a matter of a split second I go from being confident to being worried that I am going to hit a bad shot. And sure enough when this happens I generally do hit a bad shot. Any suggestions on this or just comes with time as I play more consistently?
  3. I love reading stories about this type of talent as well. But to be honest I think there is probably more unused talent out there than we could ever realize. But unfortunately talent is not always presented with opportunity. Talent aside, having that type of swing coach at the age of 10 has to also be pretty amazing... and costly. It will be interesting to see what she does with the rest of her "career" if you want to call it that at this point. Certainly an amazing feat and congratulations are in order!
  4. Thanks for all the advice. Soon I will try to post vid of me actually on the range/course. It would seem after a few rounds this week that my iron play is consistent but my driving is horrendous. Hitting the ground before the tee etc. Mentally I get owned by the thought of driving off the tee.
  5. I had to laugh at this post. So because I am just learning the game of golf I have to dress like an idiot? I'd rather be dressed well and play bad as opposed to dressing horribly and still playing bad. People may be able to accuse me of being a bad golfer but never a bad dresser!
  6. I think there is something to the theory that the better you are the less mad you get over bad shots. I haven't been playing long but have played quite a few tempermental sports in my time. I think what makes people get mad, more than the bad shot itself, is realization that you aren't as good as you want to be. Golf is just one of those sports where everything you do is on you and you can't blame anyone else for your level of play.
  7. I am not sure I agree with your post. I think he is definitely saying that equipment has marginalized the advantages certain players, like Greg Norman, had in the past and made the playing field much more equal. Having the playing field much closer together in certain categories (that equipment has assisted) would make it much more difficult to win.
  8. I am not sure I necessarily I agree with his statement about players not being able to compete 20 years ago. Technology has improved but the improvements are available to everyone equally. Do people really think that technology could help the lower tiered players increase so dramatically without also helping the higher tiered as well? I suppose it is possible but I do find it highly unlikely. I feel his statement is more in line with the cliche "back in the day it was a lot harder" type comment.
  9. Thanks for the responses! I suppose its good to hear that 110 isn't to bad after 2 months... cause it defenitely doesn't feel good on the course! @yg: Thanks for the reply. Grip is something I was somewhat aware of and have been working to find one that fits me best. As far as my head, you mean it sits to low before I even start my swing? (Poor posture, maybe?). @dal: I do try to look up after I make contact lol. I think staying down so long is my subconciously trying not to lift my head (which I tend to do often).

    Golf......

I wouldn't say golf is all those things, but it is what it is to each person. I've seen all sorts of folks out golfing in just the 2 months Ive been playing.. and not all of them good =)
  12. I've been Playing Golf for: 2 months My current handicap index or average score is: So far I am averaging 100-110 My typical ball flight is: Drives: Deep Slice Irons: Straight but not much distance The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: Drives: My driving is very inconsistent with a pretty severe slice. I've not been playing very long but I have become addicted to the game already. At this point I am completely self taught (via youtube videos) and I am enjoying it. However, I know I have problems with my swing so am just looking for some advice. Any input is greatly appreciated! Note: I apologize in advance that I wasn't able to take this video on range/course. It's the best I can do for the time being because I am staying at home with my week old son :) V ideos:
  13. Super stoked about my round today. This was only my 9th round of Golf ever.. just recently started playing. I played 9 holes and shot a 41 on the front 9. Fairly easy course over all so its nothing to special.. but I was very happy with pretty much every aspect of my game. Drives were decent and straight, approach shots were fairly consistent, and short game was the best to date. Other than a guy hitting onto my green and about knocking my head off while I was putting, it was a great round!
  14. I always hated the excuse of "other people do it" so I/they should as well.
  15. In the U.S. Army National Guard- Military Police Officer as my MOS. But I also work full time as the regional coordinator for the Military Funeral Honors program. Basically I do military funerals on a daily basis.
  16. Hello all, Just started picking up golf and have really enjoyed it so far. Driving my wife nuts talking about it so I figured I'd come here to keep from getting kicked out of the house. Looking forward to reading/learn and improving my game! C-ya on the course!
